Relocation of unlicensed Shite help?

So, advice welcomed.

How to move >>THIS<< from Surrey to the Newcastle.

Tax? No.

MOT? No.

Drives? Course it does, its a Volvo.

Guessing shipping would be prohibitively expensive.

Anyone have any ideas?

Not much time to organise shipping, but worth a go. The costs of collecting it yourself are not exactly going to be cheap. If someone would bring it to you for say £200, that'd probably still look attractive compared to the price of getting down there and bringing it back yourself on a 'booked in for MOT' scenario.

"Booked MOT" wont cover the lack of Tax though will it? As I understand it, it wont. And I cant tax it without an MOT/insurance.

Or am I wrong?

A-frame, book in for MOT & drive ... Shipley?

I'll get on Shipley now mate. Worth a shot!

SImples. Book it in for local MOT. It might bloody pass! Take insurance and then tax it. Drive home legally and grinning like a wanking jap.

if your paying cash, prices are surprisingly cheap but you often wont get the best price on the phone, stand in the office with pound notes and discounts will flow

That would be ideal. I dont think itll be far off a pass. Ive had 5 Volvo 300 series's's and theyre no bother. Built to last rather than to enthrall.

No chance of time off work for a while though. Which is a stumbling block. Suppose I need an unemployed fella with a love of the Megabus and a day to spare.

Anyone feel like being a hero?

You can drive to and from an MOT without tax.

You can't buy tax without the MOT.

Cheers A5. Thats the kind of advice that could prove invaluable.

I'll summon up some bangers and mash and see if I can tempt them under the nose.

Every day is a school day. Always learning.

Thanks for the offer FT, I'll speak to the seller fella and see what can be arranged.

A piece of useless information – the Redline special addition brochure of the Volvo 340 was photographed in the gateway of a house in Hurley, Berkshire. I know that because the lady who owned the house was a family friend and enjoyed watching a photo shoot take place on her drive.

wow - even more useless piece of related information - my Aunt and Uncle (and relations thereof) own and run the farms in Hurley. Small world, eh?

This. Make sure it's insured and showing on the database too 'just in case' and also take your insurance with you.

I for one wouldnt want to chance the driving to MOT clause over nigh on 300 miles. Alright if you dont get caught but I reckon 50% chance of getting away with it at best if you get stopped soon after you set off. And ANPR would get pinged for the tax alone.

Back in a previous less austere life, I built a Caterham from a kit at a friend's garage in Edinburgh (he had a 4 post ramp! :) )

I lived in Aberdeen at the time, so booked it in for an SVA up there; drove it 120 miles up the motorway, with no plates / tax. (It was insured on its chassis number).

Probably one of my most bizarre motoring experiences...

There's no doubt someone is going to get their collar felt for driving from Devon to Skye in a car that's not been on the road for fifteen years and has no brakes and bald tyres,, but driving a car that doesn't look completely shagged and being insured is going to help your cause.

If I recall correctly the terminology from VOSA (ref. driving an untaxed, un MOT'd vehicle to MOT is something like 'driven to the nearest test centre for an MOT'. I honestly don't think the coppers are going to be too arsed if you're not taking the piss and you are insured and it's DEFO booked in for an MOT.

When I was younger and less sensible*, I didn't tend to worry about such things. I've driven eBay purchases with no T&T home from all around the country. The way I figure it, as long as you're insured, worst case scenario is that you'll get a £60 fine for no test and a possible report to DVLA for no tax - although if you then get it T&T'd before the end of that month DVLA won't bother to take you to court as they can't get any back duty out of you. Rozzers will only seize the car for no insurance (unless you're blatantly taking the piss with its condition), and the chances of you being pulled by a VOSA checkpoint in a passenger car are pretty slim.

E&OE, IANAL etc.

Of course, I'm far too old & sensible to have driven the Saab 180 miles home from Welshpool like that
