^ I've been meaning to have a go at modifying some of them Fiats myself - we got loads of 'em and inevitably there are a few damaged ones but that does mean I can get a 127 with some Ritmo Abarth wheels on it or somesuch. Just need to find the time

In other news (and if you haven't seen it on our Facebook page) then the new Corgi releases for April - September 2011 were announced last week, probably a few of interest to mini-shiteists -

Mk4 Cortina 2.0S, Mk1 Fiesta (1.1L & XR2), Mk2 Granada (2.8 & Police) and Miami Blue Peugeot 309 GTi. Also, the first Mk4 Cortina is FINALLY available at the beginning of next month. At long last.

Wow - have never posted in this thread before, but HAD to share tonight's haul from the charity shop skip round the corner. Hey, urban beach combing is the closest I get to a beach these days!!

Thing is, they usual throw out several babies with the bathwater.

Totally, but they're way cool too!

I'm well jealous of that lot! That Mangusta is pretty unusual, not sure if it's worth loads though. I can't believe someone in a charity shop would chuck these in the bin, what an idiot!

I've got the exact same Green MG 1100, slightly better condition and I think I bought in Bridgnorth a few years ago. There is a small toy shop there that apart from selling very expensive teddy bears also sells model cars, he has a bargain basket of cars from which I've bought a Corgi Triumph Acclaim, Ford Escort Van. Volvo 740, and a some boxed Gama Vauxhalls to name a few.

plymouth fury

It does say Plymouth Plaza on the underside tho...

Shame the Dinky Porsche wasnae in the box and mint - some chancer's got one on ebay fer 180 clams!

Hard not to be a bit of a skip diver round where I live - charity shops (especially with old ladies in charge) in good areas throw out a mad amount of proper good/collectable stuff.

Always enjoyed the 'bran tub' at school....

I'm no expert but I would assume that those BMC Triumph concept models must be worth a few quid!

Nope, don't think so...

My fave is the MG I think.

If I'm not careful this could be the start of collecting. And I'm already teetering on the brink of geek-dom!

Nowt wrong with that! I teetered over the edge and fell head-first into a life of nerdism many years ago. You're right about those BMC concepts not being worth much, despite being a super unusual subject they were produced just as much as any other matchbox car of the era. The MG 1100 would be worth a bit if it was mint as it's on the early style wheels which it lost quite quickly, the DBS also I think is probably worth a few bob, as is the Cortina if only because it looks like it's in very good condition. We're still only talking a few quid a pop, but it's GR9 that you got them all free. Round here they'd all be for sale at £15 or something stupid :?

Many years ago Airfix made 1/32 scale "modern cars" some of which were better than others. Some have been resurrected in recent years: you can still buy the MGB, Mk1 Escort and DB5 IIRC. I remember having one (count 'em: one!) FD Victor Estate, which seemed to have an even shorter production run than the full-size car as I never saw it in the shops again. It made up into a lovely model too, but being 10 years old I wrecked it over time... I would love to find a stock of the real old Airfix cars now! Sunbeam Rapier, Renault Dauphine, Frogeye Sprite, HA Viva, FD of course, Mk3 Zodiac... There must be some lying around somewhere.

Posted

Some of those old airfix kits have a near-mythical status. The Capri they did is worth megabucks I know, and I'm sure if you found any of the other ones unbuilt you'd have to pay through the nose for them. They did rerelease the Frogeye, MGB, Aston DB6, Triumph TR4A, E-Type, Ferrari 250LM and possibly the Escort, but the moulds for most of the other ones don't exist anymore and the ones that do are not 'popular' enough to put back into production (can you imagine many kids wanting to build a kit of a Viva?).

The reason the moulds are gone is because in the 70s a lot of the range was turned into a 'Street Machine'-style custom car range and they had to alter the original tooling to make the new models. Real shame that.

Posted

Tis a shame, but some of them are as rare as rocking horse doo doo.

I've been trying to get hold of the Marina/Maxi and I haven't got anywhere, and any that I havefound have gone for nearly £150 clams (some nearly £200!), as a result I have resorted to tracking down uilt ones and rebuilding them.

The sports cars are ten a penny as they keep on being reproduced every ten years or so, along with the Herald, Viva, Escort and Beetle, anything else is rocking horse!

So there I am, having a bit of a preview of Neo Scale Models plans for 2011.

In their catalogue they use photos of actual cars if they haven't got a prototype yet. So I'm leafing through the catalogue and come across a car I've seen before, the actual Dan_Hirst_Galant. :shock:8) Apparently the model should be pretty much the exact car!

Also, they have a 1:18 scale Mk5 Cortina Ghia which looks absolutely superb. Gonna cost about £120 though...
