The tdci is much crapper than the petrol, but they are crap for the money,

Second hand they are bargains, I bought a 51 plate for £300 with a years mot, you would be mad to buy a new one, what's a model cost nowadays? £18-20k for a heap that devalues to £12k in the first year and by the time it's 3 years old they are £6k, shit build quality, poor components, huge loss, you might as well pay a few quid more and get a proper car

In 2 years and 23000 miles my Mondeo been perfectly fine, there's good and bad in all cars.

You have the 6 potter.. The cooking models with the dreadfuldiesels and the inlet manifold chewing petrols are somewhat lower down the food chain.

Removed by me due to fat-fingered fuckwittery of a rather high order...

Another winning thread. Hopefully* this will turn into another argument, you can never have enough of them.

+1

Mondeos are ok, no better or worse than most cars of their ilk. From experience they were no worse than the equivalent Vectra / Laguna / Passat or whatever.

As for depreciation. Blimey, new cars in depreciation shocker. If you buy almost any new car you will lose a lot of money in depreciation in the first couple of years. We hardly need Ann Robinson to tell us that. Thats why this is Autoshite and not What Car.

ford have stolen all the capital letters and punctuation and recycled them to make the nasty dreadful hateful mondeo everyone knows that that's why theyre shit innit

But a mk2 or 3 for less than £450 with a years ticket and 6 months tax is a good motor

It's a living in Essex for 20 years observation on friends/neighbours, the Essex family aspire to a new car,mum/dad/uncle/granny worked at ford so you have to buy a new ford, pay an arm and a leg, finance on it,you're still paying the finance when it's worth bridge money, all cars lose money shocker (except mine which go up every year) and I have this conversation all the time with people that have just had a dmf failure and all the shit associated with modern cars and their defence is, but its a new car/Jeremy clarkson rated them/ what car magazine gave them 8 out of 10 blah blah

Posted

Ah man, shame we didn't have this advice 20 years ago, people have unwittingly bought millions of the things!

Trig, I could have been CERTAIN you had an ST24...... My bad! Keep a baseball glove in the glovebox, for when something does fly off though.....

If my/dad/uncle or granny worked at Ford, they could have got a stonking discount on a new one or bought ones (preregisterd with tiny useage )from the company at Frog Island.

My mates worked at the Tractor plant and most employees bought new Fords because they got very generous discounts.

My Uncle who worked for the VW plant in Hannover was also entitled to the same kind of discounts and used to "buy" cars for people.

Mondeos are no crappier than any other modern car, infact they are pretty good, actually.

They really are.

Morris Oxfords all round.

True, but it's always been the case. Even the Horsey Horseless reins might just as well have been made out of lightly boiled spaghetti for all the use they were at the first sign of a downpour

My brother is about to swap his Picasso for a Mondeo, apparently.

Posted

i couldnt tell you what would be the worse of those two.fuck what a choise

Posted

He's just got back with it. Straight swap for the Picasso and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a taxi in a former life. The interior smells like every taxi I've ever been in, it has more miles on it than the Picasso, pulls to the left, has a shot wheel bearing and while it looks tidy (in the dark) it doesn't seem like much of a step up to me. I've refused to help with it, I expect he'll get shut in three months time at the most.

sounds like a right turd and a oney pit.he would be better off with a push bike

As my brother (and now me too) is fond of saying; you can't educate pork.

Was a nice car

I forgot to mention, it's on a 52 plate and has done 190,000 miles. It just screams ex-taxi.

Your brother will get shot as soon as he's bored of it.

They can be good workhorses, I guess as long as the clutch isn't smoking as bad as the last one it's liveable.
