Futureshite - 2013 Dodge Challenger

Recommended Posts

Well I thought I was going to be "rolling" in a 300C but it turns out that I'm going to have to suffer a Challenger instead

I'll get more shots thrown up by the weekend - snowed under at work this week - well that's my excuse!

This car is almost as slow as my old Toyota Corolla AE86 Coupe!

Way too much transmission lag to get a decent 0-60 - perhaps there is some "sports" setting I'm not seeing...?

OK here are some shots when I left work last night - it was a wee bit on the dark side...can't stand this fucking sluggish new version of Photbucket - feels like I'm running a 486 system!

There must be as I am watching a program about these and they are meant to be very quick........I would absolutely love one of these, not as much as the new Camaro though.... 8)

Posted

It's a much bigger car than the Camaro, which is actually pretty small in the flesh....I'd like to try out one of those as well of course :D

I love the front end on these Challengers - this thing isn't even run in yet - only had 11 miles on the clock when I picked it up on Monday night.

This is the only car I've knowingly driven with a 0~60 gauge as standard equipment

Posted

It's a looker alright I'll be interested to see what the drive like. I must have seen 1 of these for every 5 Cameros when I was over.

It's amazing the base v8 Camero is only $23,500 dollars and these are $25,000 dollars. If I had the dosh I'd happily bring one over.

Looks like a badly made replica, like these Bugattis on VW Beetle chassis, absolutely ridiculous.

But it sure is bona fide future shite.

Posted

Top of my lottery list. Love these things just a little less than the original version.... had an original 72 Challenger, and try not to think too much about the new one in case I wee myself a little.

Posted

That's almost attractive for a seppo car.

The 0-60 gauge is tacky, though. Does it come with gun racks too?

Ridiculous price when you consider that here in the Middle East the Challenger starts at over £32,000 (yes, that's POUNDS - or $50,000!). No wonder my mate brought his new Ford F150 V8 over from Florida rather than buy here

I'd love one of those, especially in red, you lucky bastard!

It's even better than that - they don't cost me a penny to own or run either

None of this company car tax bollocks over this way

Sexual. Most certainly WOULD.

Yeah... went took the V6 model like you got there for a spin, decided it was good but not good enough and went bought the R/T model instead. It's not the SRT-8 but still, 5.7 litres, 375 bhp and 400 lb/ft work nicely thanks.

The 0-60 is better, closer to 4-5 seconds. The base model there got no "sport" setting. This one does on a button left of the cigarette lighter. With the car doing everything (gears, traction control on), it squirms away from a standstill and kicks into second so quickly for an automatic that it would impress even a sportbike owner. First runs out at 50mph...

It drives like it is, a heavyweight on fat tyres. Thing weighs 4086 lbs- that's just on 2 ton. Almost the same as my pickup truck!

Still, loving it. It's comfy, quick, relatively nimble compared to the Impala it replaced :)

Yeah, the argument ping-ponged between Camaro and Challenger. Challenger was slightly more practical for a daily driver :D

I have to admit I like the car overall but do find the gearbox/transmission somewhat erratic.

At times you get a decent launch but other times it's just bogs down and does almost sod all!

I got a whopping 8.9s 0~60 using the tiptronic method...that didn't really make sense.. :?:

The car I'm driving doesn't have automatic lighting - which is unusual these days.

On Friday the "American Warning System" advised me that the shifter was not in Park accompanied by various "bing-bing-bin"g sounds at 70MPH but it was actually the door that was not fully closed..

As this is essentially a brand new car, it makes me wonder how it will hold up in the longer term.

Posted

Yeah, I'd found that with the V6. This seems to have a different program operational.

I thought auto lights was a requirement over here now? This one has the A position to the left of O on the dial.

Haven't tried opening the doors whilst moving- it has the default "Lock at 25mph" thing going on.

The fit and finish isn't bad, looking at how it's screwed together underneath it seems as though it should carry on for a while. It's a proven set of engines and transmissions- the only thing that'll eventually let it down is the electronics...

I'm not sure why it doesn't have an auto-lights position - I'll post a photo up tomorrow to show you - I only have 3 options rather than 4.

What sort of MPG are you getting with the V8?

Posted

Took a look, it's part of the "convenience" package, the lights. Strange!

It's not doing too badly really- just above EPA. Considering that's uh, 31.something UK mpg, not half bad really. It buzzes along at light throttle on 4 cylinders, making it a 2.8 litre V4. It's very flat around here so it's easy to make good use of that feature. It's been keeping between 22-26 in all reality, not bad as the engine's just beginning to loosen up a little now it's hit 1000+ miles.

That's pretty damn good for a V8!

That's actually the same MPG as my mothers old Mazda 121DB with a 1.3L engine

Here's the offending light switch:

I can't find the MPG setting on my car at all.... :?:

The dial on this one's a little different, yeah.

I think that's the button you were looking for, next to the hazard lights?

Fuel economy is on the same "page" as the trip etc on this. Trip A, Trip B, miles to empty, average mpg

Hmm, mine doesn't seem do that - it does Trip A (350 miles), Trip B (349.5 miles), Odometer (356 miles)

I've now got a low tire/tyres pressure warning light on to advise me to pump up one of them to 32PSI - they all "look" fine so that's good enough for me.

I notice over this way that when the temperatures drop that often affect the readings on the TPS measuring systems. Wait till the sun comes out and the pressure is back up where it was supposed to be

Posted

Checked my average MPG today - worked out at 23.9MPG which isn't too bad overall as I do a fairly short commute in the morning/evenings and short trips out for lunch too.

To work and on the way home, it's pretty much pedal to the metal at the "on ramp" to the highway each way, so it's certainly not being "hyper-miled"

I've been noticing quite a few Challengers round this way since I picked up mine a couple of weeks back.

Here's one I snapped at the back of my abode:

Hm, R/T "Classic" with the Big & Spendy hood. Those aren't cheap!

But did you notice the rubber gasket that's already detached itself at the front edge?

I'm still somewhat concerned about the antics of the gearbox/transmission in the one I'm driving - it's very very erratic.... :?

Great looking cars and very smooth to drive for sure - did around 500 miles at the weekend on the way down the Pacific Coast...fantastic scenery too!

Hadn't noticed the seal no. I'm guessing that just fell apart from the hood- that's an o-section seal along the front lip. They are comfy to drive. The 6 did feel a little squishier than the R/T does, so you got a good cruiser there. I opened the DVD for the manual and read the contents last night. Even Dodge say "tell the gears what to do for smoother city driving". This one hunts about a little and can't decide what to do in 25-30 mph caterpillar traffic. Up to about 30 I usually tell it what to do, at 27-28 it'll go into 4th and burble along at 1000 rpm happily on city streets.

Pretty scenery. Would love to head out that way one day. For now, we have this, from last night's dinner lol
