World of WARCRAFT

This little piece of exquisite French precision engineering has found its way onto my driveway and before I bung it on Gumtree I thought I'd give shiters a chance to snap it up.

It's a Y plate Renner Megane 1.4 Authentique. MOT'd till the end of May and Taxed until the end of June so no worries about that for a while. It is showing a believable 60500 miles and drives really well. Obviously it needs a set of Poundland trimz which I'll get tomorrow and the interior is like a chien mort which I'll also attend to asap. Lexus rear lights can only add to your street cred. The only mechanical problems are an occasionally lazy starter which I'm pretty sure is down to a dodgy battery cable which will be fixed and slightly grabby brakes.

Here it is in all its "yet to be prepped" glory..

Price is £345 with the distinct possibility of a shiters discount although it will get lobbed on Scumtree for £425 next week.

Cripes that's grim. Ideal for that "nah Officer, ANPR must be wrong cos it's got tax and insurance" chic

Here at WARCRAFT pre-loved vehicles we believe in doing things differently.

How often do you go to look at a used car and behind the gleaming front there's a dent in the rear or maybe the back the car looks perfect but there's unsightly rust on the front? We sympathise with how you feel which is why WARCRAFT carefully select the finest two halves of two different cars from only the most discerning vendor (usually Universal Salvage) and create the finest Gentleman's Carriages £500 can buy.

Clients can rest assured that WARCRAFT hand pick their master craftsmen with the same car as our cars. Our skilled artisan workforce draw their inspiration to create some of the finest vehicles available anywhere today from not just their homelands on the Danube and Black Sea, but also from their work surroundings, Isambard Kingdom Brunells majestic railway arches.

WARCRAFT believe in giving you a truly unique buying experience. Everytime we sell a car any potential buyer calls a unique telephone number dedicated to that car, usually beginning 0778, that the client can call to arrange a demonstration drive. To ensure that we handle each sale tailored to each clients individual requirements we promise to terminate that telephone number within 15 minutes of purchase. Guaranteed.

With all the above benefits isn't it time you experienced for yourself the WARCRAFT difference?

Sexy or what?

The fact that you were seen taking pictures of it in the pissing rain in quite a busy area deserves a mention. Well done.

You just need to take a BFO hammer to the rear lights now.

My Uncle Rolland had one of these also in 1.4 flavour Y354TSL from 2005 until 2011. He took it to 130k miles and had no problems with it at all :-)

gotta be honest i'd rather drag myself round by my lips than travel about in that, fair play to ya

SOLD for full asking of £365 tonight at 11pm, and hour after being advertised! Had three potential punters gagging for a bit of HOT FRENCH ACTION.

I have to come out the closet and say I really like these. I think they are very pretty looking cars.

We had a 1997 1.6RT and it was a very comfortable and quiet and also pretty quick for what it was. I wish I had bought it back from the person I sold it too as I had the chance but declinded and he scrapped it.

Posted

I had a 1.6 pez one of these that was really smart inside and fantastic on fuel. Obviously being a Renault it couldn't behave itself and lobbed a pulley bolt off on a bypass and the RAC bloke just laughed when I asked him to put it back in.

Verdict:

As N.C suggested it's a Road Wars type vehicle and will probably be driven round a housing estate with no wheeltrims or insurance.

Result! What's not to like for under £350? There's been times I'd have been glad of something as decent as that for that kind of dosh.

Indeed,I saw the advert and imagined some god-awful shitheap but in fact, that looks like perfectly nice transport for less money than a weekend away.

My mum had a couple of those, one P-reg (she'd been eyeing them up since launch but had to wait till her lease came up for renewal) and one facelift W-plate DTi Sport. Both very nice, quite modern inside compared to the 19 she'd looked at previously - we lived around the corner from a Renault dealer. That looks to have been looked after, I know they can look tired when scraped and dinged like so many end up being for that price but fair play, that should go on a few years.

Once again, WARCRAFT provide the working man with affordable wheelzzz.

As I seem to be turning over three cars a week at the moment I thought I'd turn this into my bloggy car buying thread for anyone interested in what I've bought, sold or been to view over the coming days.

If anyone's interested then I'll update you with todays measly offerings.

First up today was another Renner, this time a '99 Laguna Estate with the 1.9 DTi engine. The thing is blessed with six months tax but unfortunately had only a months ticket. I checked that it wasn't a 7 seater and asked what he wanted for it, he'd had the thing up for sale for over a month at £450 without as much as a timewasting phone call. Sadly my admittedly low offer of £210 wasn't accepted.

Next up was a car I actually mentioned on the AS Facebook page last night, namely this Lexus GS300

$(KGrHqF,!lEFDwl5wbzwBRGTq0q9Sg~~48_80.JPG

The owner rang me up offering it to me for £325 but because he seemed to be hyping the MOTless thing up with every sentence I was reluctant to commit to buying it, that and the fact a legal test drive was out of the question. I made a shitty offer of £250 cos I'm sure I could break it for more but he reluctantly declined. Still, if you fancy it the I'm pretty sure £315 would get it.

That's it for today. Let me know if you want me to post up more bought/for sale/sold/refused as the days go on.

Yes please! Great stuff.

£450 doesnt sound a ridiculous amount for a semi-modren diesel estate car, I wonder what the problem was? maybe he needs to stick a fresh ticket on it.

The thing about the above cars is that if they'd even bothered to spend £35 on a test regardless of a pass or fail we'd of both had a fairer bargaining position. I'd happily buy a failure with a legitimate fail sheet.

As a bit of a catch up here's a few refusals from the past week.

Another Megane, this time a 2.0 IDe. X reg with a December MOT and taxed till the end of the month. Wanted £450 which was more than I wanted to pay even with only 51,000 on the clock. I don't know much about Renault IDE engines other than the fact they're supposed to be bad news in Lagunas. 2.0 engine in something that small seems like overkill anyway.

A 1998 Vectra 2.0 CD four door saloon. Only 77,000 miles and was probably as good a any Vectra B gets but I honestly don't think I could of punted it on for more than £395 so I had to knock it back due to the potential profit being too small to of been worth the risk.

An 02 plate Focus 3 door I was offered by a scrappy mate sounded ideal for a bit of sewer motor trading but wasn't to be. He rang me up in the morning to tip me off that he was picking it up in the afternoon and over the phone it sounded prime WARCRAFT tackle. 2002, 3 door, long MOT, Full leather, MOMO alloys and in resale silver and getting weighed in by a lady 'cos her ex had put a bar through the screen. Although neither of us had seen it yet we agreed that £400 seemed a fair price. I rang a local scrappy that fitted secondhand glass and for some reason he didn't have a Focus screen in stock! Never mind, I'm sure the profit would easily be able to absorb £150 for a new one. Anyway, I waited for bated breath for it to arrive and I was somewhat dejected when it arrived on the back of his Transit. I could of coped with the scrape on the NSR quarter but for some reason the offside of the car was totally scabby, particularly the bottom rear corner of the drivers door. It looked like she wasn't used to having a three door car with long doors and she'd constantly opened the door into high kerbs and rust had taken a major hold. The sills were decidedly frilly on that side too.

More to come later....

Pretty quiet day for buying and selling on the WARCRAFT pitch today.

Need to get a window regulator for the Punto as apparently I promised 100% to get it fixed for the new owner  , never mind there must be loads in the scrappies and I can raise a laugh or two when I ask for a used lights/indicator stalk for the Sportage part ex. After scouring the Wirrals finest dismantling yards I've discovered that a Mk1 Punto is absolutely the most scrappaged car in Britain and there wasn't one to be found. Bollocks. Even Hills MEGA YARD in Skelmersdale didn't have one. Had to bite the bullet and order a new one at £66 inc VAT. The ironic thing is that I had a choice of two Mk1 Kia Sportages to liberate the stalk assembly from...

Only one desperate car seller today, got a text late in the evening offering me another 406 petrol, 1997 on an R plate with short tax and long MOT, prime export fodder. Alas the vendor wants £400 for it so NO DEAL. PM me for his details if you fancy it yourself.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Wheres your favourite place for advertising old snotters, on Gumtree? I'm guessing you don't wanna throw £1000000 at an advert on Autotrader or whatever.

Gumtree cos it's free and Auto Trader pisses me off having to look through all the adverts for leased Audi A4's for £395 a month.

Right shite fans, there's been a bit of comings and goings on the WARCRAFT pitch.

The Punto leaves tonight or tomorrow morning thanks to prompt service from Euro Car Parts and the Kia Sportage will be up for grabs shortly.

I'm getting what sounds like a very respectable 1997 Peugeot 406 1.8 petrol in tonight taxed until the 1/4/13 and a long MOT. Rather than just export it as per usual I'm gonna take some pics and if it's halfway decent try and shift it on via Autoshite as there always seems to be a need for cheapies with tax and test on here. I'll only be asking for about £350 and delivery is a distinct possibility.

Reasonable offers considered.

I can see this being a really enjoyable thread! :) Not only that: potentially very useful too, as there's always someone here wanting a cheap old car. If only you'd had that 406 a few weeks ago when I was hunting. Could have saved myself a day of walking around town and ending up with one a year older. Mind, at that point it wouldn't have mattered what I bought. I'd have gone for a grey diesel Golf if there'd been one at the right price. Does that tell you how desperate I was?

Where do 406s go for export?

Kenya and Zimbabwe. Only the four cylinder petrol models though.

OK, on the subject of 406s here's tonight's example as promised.

So far the only mechanical issues found are essentially chickenfeed, a slightly knocking centre branch of the exhaust is all I've found so far. The exterior could do with a polish and the interior needs a clean and hoover but it looks like a straight old car for a modest sum of money. The bodywork has the odd battlescar and the paint on the back bumper isn't fantastic but it's taxed till April and has a respectable MOT until September. The cambelt was changed about 23,000 miles ago as well. Comes with a towbar so A Framing shite behind it is a possibility.

Sounds like good value at £345
