Dare I Mention............Retro Rides Gathering 2013?

It's a topic that could go south very quickly, but putting aside the oft-held opinions on the forum last year as a cracking weekend out. Already had the email advertising camping spots and I am planning on going. You need to be part of a club to get in but I have no idea what I'll be driving by them (hopefully the Yugo). Would there even be the slightest bit of interest in an Autoshite presence there?

Potentially, I'd actually like to make it this year. These Gatherings tends to attract a lot of friendly folk, even if some of the cars are a bit silly.

I'd love to but sadly it clashes with Leeds VW Festival where I shall hopefully be earning a living so I won't be there.

Shame as the Gathering is a really nice show at a superb venue, I'd highly recommend it even if you don't 'do' the blue forum.

Is the hill climb on? If so, let's hope that the ones camping the night before don't buy all the places (morning and afternoon) and leave the other 200 people attending at least one go up the hill. I think a lot of people were pretty peaved watching the same 10 cars go up for the fourteenth time that day. Not fault of anyone really, hope it's sorted more fairly next year!

Was a good day and setting but only stayed a couple of hours due to that reason.

You know, the one thing that stopped me going last year was the thought that what you say was a possibility. Then angry rants from Wat suggests that indeed that was what had happened. You never know, if hill time is actually possible, and Wat gets his Amazon sorted, the old Volvo vs 2CV Retro-Rides Rivalry might be back on. (2-0 to the 2CV so far!)

Is there a Motoscat gathering?

I'll be going, as ever. Not sure what I'll be in, but I'll be taking whatever it is up the hill. With a bit of luck it'll be escRot.

Cambridge dictionary defines gathering as: 'a party or a meeting when many people come together as a group'.

Note the word 'many'. And there's no mention of 3 blokes who think INTERNET PRIDE is important.

Moto-Scat. That's where the dummy chuckers went isn't it?

You could have a meet for them in a matchbox. Shame really, other than Len most of them were ok.

HACTUALLY we're having the Moto-Scat gathering tomorrow, and there will be three of us, ha!

I made some pretty bold claims about driving BOND to RRG13 but that is looking increasingly unlikely. I'd still like to go, though, as it seems like pretty much everyone I know in the Rubbish Old Car world will be there. Maybe I'll just leave it until next year so I can definitely arrive under my own steam in a horrid plastic car

Is RRG always held at the same place? Wouldn't mind going one year.

I went a few years ago and other than the twonk on the gate not wanting to take my 20 note for camping as "it's fuckin scotch init" after I'd just driven 9 hours solid it was really good and filled with friendly people.

That one was at the Haynes museum. I think it's even further away from me now. I wouldn't mind going back through.

Prescott's further north than Haynes. My main issue is that having taken part in track time at two Gatherings in my 2CV, the gearbox broke not long after. Oops. That was Mallory Park first time (with seemingly no cares about Health and Safety at all! Driving as fast as I could around a track with a floppy hat on) and Haynes second time (where we did at least have to wear a crash helmet).

I would do another RRG, provided I get a run up the hill this time. If I don't get a go up Prescott this year I probably won't bother with the subsequent Gatherings.

For many people the draw is the chance to do the hill climb, not get stuck behind a procession of badly driven VWs that ground out at the slightest hint of a dip in the road (not that this happened or anything). The blue forum management need to organise the hill climb better so that people don't go away disappointed. Barring the sale of afternoon tickets to the morning drivers might help.

Yes, the scenery was lovely and the show was a good one, but if Station and me see the same ten or so cars driving up the hill all day you can pretty much forget ever doing it again.

I probably won't be able to afford to camp for the whole weekend so will be going at the crack of dawn on the Sunday to get there in time to sign on for the hill climb.
