Well after the disaster that was the new year HGF on the MG i debated as to save it or bin it. Well a in the meantime my pal came to the rescue with a P-reg Vectra. It's been owned by his Mum and Dad who are both well into their 70s for the last 9 years. It's a basic 1.6 LS in a nice shade of light gold. It's got a M.O.T until March and tax until July............it runs and drives better than my MG evar did. It's cost me wait for it £100. They just wanted the pennies for the tax. I'm well happy as there are no knocks or clunks and EVERYTHING works as it should.........Happy days.lol.

Ignore the H8R's, Vectras are flaming well cheap as chips to run and get parts for. No more or less worthy than the equivalent Japanese or French car.

As long as you dont have to drop the subframe for the required repair then its the kind of motor that wont give you any big financial shocks come garage/MOT time. Most places like working on them as they are straightforward too.

Mine gave 4 years good service and whilst now laid up, it may yet live to give some more.

1.6 engines are cool... Same engine as used in my old Astra Estate, not fast, but certainly durable with care.

Similarly, the 2.0 16v was good, but stupidly long geared for it's purpose in life.

True shiters drive the 1.6 Envoy with no Rev counter or Electric Windows.

I quite like these Vectras, I had the use of one for few days to do a couple of motorway journeys, I'm pretty sure it was a 1.6 LS on a S-plate (got some pics of it somewhere) it was very reasonable to drive, comfortable to be in and had a great stereo (I've always rated Vauxhall stereo systems)

I can see why these are popular, get some pics up for us please, we're not all h8taz you know.

there not bad cars at all.... shame vx never kept more essence of the cavalier when designing the vectra...

you found vvoc site yet?

Yep, they're not that bad at all. Will 'P' reg be Ecotec or 8V? If it's a 16V (X16XEL I think) they're a pretty good lump and seem longer lived/more durable than the 1.8, and if it is an 8V it'll probably last forever with next to sod all maintenance.

Me got new shite too, thread to follow. Same age as Charlie's! Good luck with the Vectra! :D

I had no idea you could get Vectras with the old 1.6 8v plugger under the bonnet. When I popped to the local breakers today I spotted loads of them. Great!

Good comfortable cars, and if treated well are a nice to live with car; the LS was one up from base Envoy, but felt well kitted at the time, and 1.6 was enough for a Cavalier ( remember Cavalier was offered as low as 1.4) so should be adequate all round performance

Thanks guys. Well it seems a good un. Like i said its been owned by my pals pensioner parents for the last 9 years and has only done around 20.000 miles in that time. I'm going to see my parentd in Colne tomorrow (230 mile drive) and this will be its longest journey since the bought it. Its the 1.6 Leakotec engine. Its got a rusty arch........the old boy had a go at "repairing" it and its not pretty but thats it. I will let you know how the journey pans out.

If you have a (free) account on Photobucket or similar, you should be able to find a "tag" for each pic; copy and paste that into here, between the Img tags from the boxes above the reply window. Job's a good'un. :D
