Those XK120 Jags are so beautiful. Why did it all go wrong Jaguar recently?

The Sunbeam-Talbot 90 is another beautiful car.

It went wrong the moment they joined BL, really.  They were just getting on their feet again from that and then someone decided they should be aiming at Audi.  Oh dear.

I haven't totally been ignoring this thread for the last month, honest...   I have, however, been building up some photos for you.

This is surviving pretty well for 30+ years old.  I hated the one I had in 1993...

Beautiful old Volvo was at an art event yesterday.

I can't believe this is 26 years old now!  It lives nearby, but this pic is from the end of my street, much closer than it usually comes.

When you have a garage round the corner it seems to attract abandoned cars!  Two Vauxhall Antaras, both diesel/manual.  Nearest to camera is a recent addition, the other one's been here weeks.

This is the Passat I referred to in another thread, that threw up a terminal bill.

And this Focus has been in the same spot for months.

Just the one today, from last night's dog walk.

Around the corner from me is a big pub that was open when we moved here, but closed down within a couple of years.  It then went through a redevelopment that turned it into a massive HMO, supposedly for visiting BAE contractors.  That didn't last and for the last couple of years it seems to have become some kind of halfway house or bail hostel.  This black Mondeo has been sitting on the same spot for probably a year now, flat tyres and no number plates.  It's often accompanied by a selection of Golf-sized VAGs, usually diesel, usually monochrome, usually being worked on, or at least laid up for work to take place.

Mondeo

Those things were launched shortly after I first discovered Autoshite.com and I remember checking one out in the Sandicliffe Ford showroom in Leicester.

Seeing them in end of life condition makes me feel damn old.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the police were looking for that one.  Disappointed, but not in any way surprised.

Several weeks later, it must be time for some more!  1999 Astra has lived in the next street since well before I arrived, and is still going!  I managed to sell him the best tyres off my blue one that I scrapped, on steels so they'll go straight on his.

And another little VX!  There are usually cars For Sale along this strip (see the 2CV behind; £7k) but the Viva's been there a few months now with no advertising.

We've had a spate of DVLA clamping around Barrow; they got at least ten cars in the block of streets where I am, and most of them are still wearing their decorations ten days later.  Yesterday I saw this Focus and a Passat being removed.

And finally today, one for @FakeConcern just because I know he likes these!

Last week saw the last two of my local batch carted away: a Ford Galaxy and a BMW 3-series estate.  There are some still around that surprise me, like the one remaining Antara from the pair I posted earlier, and a grey (of course) Range Rover that hasn't moved in some considerable time.  I don't know how they escaped the outbreak of Yellow Boots!

People are probably saying the same about Handsome Bastard, given that it rarely moves...

I really like that orange colour! All the lads on the C30 group like the Drive spoiler and fit them to their T5s, but I prefer the original R Design one fitted to mine.

I drive past this occasionally, as I have a friend round the corner.  Never seen anyone with it but I would absolutely love to have it in the Jag's place in my street!

Good grief, has it been so long?  Better give you some updates!  We'll start with my little trip to Fleetwood last week, where I saw this...

Looks familiar?

;)   I mean, how could I resist?

Today I've been at the Lakeland Motor Museum, for the meet I missed last month with being in Edinburgh.

We all love a Volvo round here, right?

Now here's a story.

Many of you will have noticed Bridge Classic Cars, who use the web to raffle off some lovely assorted classics.  They first came to my attention with a mk3 Zephyr, for which I have a big soft-spot going back to my childhood.  So I entered that one.  Didn't win, of course.  Since then I've entered several more, including very recently an Aston Martin DB7, like this...

100_1641.JPG.148796f4ef065ebe82e6a8aaea2587b4.JPG

...In fact exactly this!  It was won by a chap from near Lancaster, and today he decided to give it its first run, to the Museum!  It's his wife I was chatting to, and to whom I gave the Matchbox KS XJ12 that I referred to in Shite In Miniature.  So ok, I didn't win it, but at least I was able to take my own photo of it.

She doesn't come with me to these things.  Her choice; her loss.

Incidentally, if I may exert my inner pedant: our case is more one of "child groom" as she's older than me by three and a half years.

Mk2 Cav on an X! That's the earliest mk2 I've seen for years. My mate owned a beige 1.6 X plate mk2 back in the day and it was a proper flying machine.
