dollywobbler Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Fabulous. What a colour. Can the Renault Classic Car Club help with bits? They're a friendly bunch.
nigel bickle Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Plenty of bits (I've 3 estates & a van...) What do you need?
Split_Pin Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Wow that's a thing of beauty, nice colour too. Must surely be one of the rarest cars in the UK?
carlo Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 I had a similar car in the same colour on a 'P' reg about 25 years ago and absolutely loved it. It was the last of the old shape 12s with the smaller back lights, it felt indestructible. I can hear that engine thrum now.
HillmanImp Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 When I was growing up remember David Irvings dad who lived across the road in Gretna had one of these in the same colour. I thought it looked old and horrible and I felt like royalty in comparison in my parents brand new pastel blue Citroen Visa. As time has passed and styles and tastes have changed I cant decide which I like more, the Citroen or the Renault? I think the Renault probably. This does look good. Best of luck with it.
M'coli Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 I had a similar car in the same colour on a 'P' reg about 25 years ago and absolutely loved it. It was the last of the old shape 12s with the smaller back lights, it felt indestructible. I can hear that engine thrum now.So did my Grampa, when he died it came to clutter up our driveway and cause family rows about which one of his sons should have it...I learnt to wheelspin and handbrake turn in it. JSM299P ended up in Easton's yard in Gartocharn. This one you have is lovely.
theorganist Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Wow very nice indeed. I remember seeing this on ebay at the time and hoping it would go to a good home and I am glad to see it has. Best of luck with it. Pete
gtd2000 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Has been suggested I introduce my R12TL...'The Green Pea'. Got her orft Ebay in April for £400.00...currently sharing a barn with a moggy shell and some ropey old boats.... According to Practical Classics one of the least valuable things you can fill yer garage up with and a 1 out of 5 spares rating....I like a challenge me.... I can see that you like a challenge - were those straps actually intended to keep the car on the trailer whilst being towed? I can't talk, I once brought a VW Camper back from somewhere near Bathgate to Galashiels with a bit of bailer twine and the handbrake Used a 1300cc Suzuki Jeep and the trailer had no electrics...was shitting myself the entire journey...wouldn't even contemplate that today!
hennabm Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 VL was a Lincoln registration and may have been sold by Wests or AC Williams at Ancaster. I had a J plate TL and M plate TS. You have what I would describe as a MKII or facelift and not all parts are the same as the MKI.
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 1 out of 5 spares rating for a R12? How crazy is that? There are quite a few still about in France...and, if you include Dacias and the ones assembled in Colombia and Argentina, it must be very near the top of the list of cars from the 1970s in terms of number of examples still surviving today. What rating do they give to NSU and Panhard?
Mr Lobster Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 1 out of 5 spares rating for a R12? To be fair though its Practical Classics so anything thats not a Sherpa Sport is not worthy and therefore valueless and worthy only of derision and a strange, bewildering curiosity. Spares are easy enough if you are prepared to get stuff from France. RCCC is useful as well for parts and assistance
Luxobarges_Are_Us Posted November 9, 2012 Posted November 9, 2012 Ah, fair enough then. It's been a long while since I last purchased a car mag of any kind- and that's mostly because they either feature new shite or Sherpa Coupes.
M'coli Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Oooohhhh, those switches!!! Can we have a close-up of the other side of the dashboard please?
nigel bickle Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 Straight speedo needle -thats a rarity. All mine have warped -presumably form the heat of the midday sun. Tends to confirm mileage..
Partridge Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 I do like that a lot. It’s such a lovely shape and so simplistic and un cluttered. Learn Renault, learn... What rating do they give to NSU and Panhard? Slightly less than sod all.
nigel bickle Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Wheel now en route. Should be with you Monday (Citylink claim). I reckon Tuesday. Cheers
lovejoy Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Hello Nigel / Space Trotta, I have re-surfaced after hibernating / lurking down in cornwall for the last six months, you still have R12 rims to give out ? Amazing!!I thought all that stuff got knicked from your yard..... I still have a complete 12 Break out here, with earlier wheels (no centre hole to allow fitting on tyre machines), but with later bumpers with lights in, but earlier circular instrument pods...It's well shagged, but all there, plus other spares in boxes (can't get rid of the bloody stuff !!) so if you / Espacetotter needs anything I can help with, let me know, as I may be shipping other stuff back next year hidden in a crate of bananas....
nigel bickle Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Hiya Chris -you well? Hibernating in Cornwall - whatya doin herein the cold? I always try to help genuine fellow Rennists- and I've got a few spare steel rims -so... Few other bits heading his way too (-in all prob). I wouldnt bother shipping 'nless its close to free- there are so few left the prices are rock bottom. may change in a few years- but right now the whole shebang is low value.
lovejoy Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Yeah Nigel. back in the warmth, at last.... it was bloody cold down in the "We*t Country", never normally there in November...!desperate times = desperate measures ... am aware of the zero values of 12 stuff, not planning to make a profit, but someone in Cornwall wants my Kawasaki KT250 shipped over, plus I have a Series 5 alpine (1966) I am going to cut up with a jigsaw / large machete, as someone else wants all four wings (inner and outer...) and I have a fiat 903 block to ship as well (too heavy for hand luggage .... )Hope to touch base with you next year sometime, once I get over this bloody floo that NHS gave me in the form of a "free Jab", hmmmm
Mr Lobster Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Have you seen the pics of the white 12 that is on the Meguirs stand at the NEC (they are on RCCC forum if you haven't). It is incredible.
Mr Lobster Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 I've just spent quite a long time reading that thread. It is incredible. I'm really looking forward to having a look at it at the NEC on Sunday.
trigger Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 The R12 at the NEC is stunning but it's fenced in so you can't get a really good look at it sadly, just the front end.
trigger Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Have a snicky peek preview of it from today.
