Thinking of getting rid of the cars..

I'm thinking maybe I should sell all the cars at once, and whichever is last to go I keep. Samba Cabriolet £200, Samba Style £800, XR3 £500 Monza £500, Polonez £500, MG £700.

Let fate decide.

I have too many cars and it's at a point where I cant keep on top of the work that needs doing. Thing is though I have got too attached to them.

It's causing me a lot of stress, I think I would deeply regret selling them after a while. I know some should really be parts only cars.

I keep going round in mental circles, I could think of ten reasons why x car definitely isn't the one to go. But the cumulative amount of work across the fleet is just too much.

I know we see a lot of threads like this on here :/

I would keep the Monza, the FSO and one of the Samba's personally for what value my opinion has :)

Whoah nelly! Let me try and find someone to borrow £500 off before you start offering an XR3 about like that, assuming it has an underneath.

Posted

I'd lose the escort and the mg from that selection.

I go through this dilemma every so often too and then buy more shite that I cant afford to run/fix

Posted

also, what's the story with the monza? If it's half decent I'd have that for 500 quid! (I learnt to drive in one, liked them since)

XR: It is tested until midnight. Taxed for 5 months. It needs the suspension sorting, wants a full respray, arches sorting, a new rear panel, drivers door.. Off top of head. Wants a set of leads and a dizzy cap too. Monza is rotten. It would be the one I kept I guess were it not for the amount of welding involved. There's a thread somewhere. Its a mess!

Ah, the usual monza/royale front chassis rot then? Shame.

I know what you mean, I've been trying to cut down the fleet, but moments of weakness/stupidity generally see it grow instead :?

Keep what you've had the longest or means the most to you ... and is preferably road legal.

Posted

I am going through the exact same scenario as you and i just can not decide which has to go first  to me its like trying to decide which hand to get rid of first

I have done a stupid thing today and have once again secured more storage to store yet another car  so that’s another £40 quid on top of all my other rented storage that’s already committing my wallet to go hungry

i think you should keep the lot so as to stop me drooling over yet more cheep tat which could result in my financial suicide by taking on more metal :D i really do fancy an fso xr3 or mabe another samba hell all of them i wouldnt say no to.

The MG will be no real loss,as they are easily replaced, although they are good all weather transport

It's heartbreaking. I love them cars. I don't know what to do. Anyway. Crich in the Polonez tomorrow - hopefully someone will talk some sense into me.

Posted

Am I wrong in thinking the FSO is possibly the rarest,or is it one of the Samba's ? I quite like the look of that

Posted

Yeah the MG is great. I don't have to explain it to people - I can pass as normal if I feel like I need to. It's relaxed and easy to drive and fun and modern and WORKS! But it would be the first to go. The FSO is the only one of that shape I know to be on the road. There's Caros and maybe one later 'Coupe front' Polonez. But that's it.

Is the XR3 four or five speed? It's on a change over year.

Posted

It should have a 4 speed box I'm told but has a 5 fitted. It's an early German built car. Not that it makes much difference. It rotted like any Ford. Each year it wants a bit more welding.

I think all XR3/i/Ghias were Kraut built.

What are your thoughts today Ed?

Is the £200 Samba Cabriolet up and running ok now, after the engine-out clutch job?

If so, it seems bargainous, and I may be registering an interest here...

Perhaps a more detailed description of vehicles and faults may help them sell.

Must resist the Polonez. It's a real shite goal of mine, but I can only imagine the drive to the ferry at Cairnryan being one of the most hideous experiences life can throw at us.

The monza is a stonking car, however they rust like feek at the front.

There was a royale in scotland on retro rides, guy had been repairing the car over a year or so, welding it in various places (the strut tops were ok) however he bailed out when found one of the front chassis legs was frilly. He sold it for £150.

If you have to keep one, keep the monza - their values are low now, however their day may come. Having said that, I'm still waiting for SD1 values to go up.

Was stressing, as I often do from time to time, a lot this weekend. Mainly at the prospect of number 7, I think. Anyway I have knocked the idea of another Samba project on the head, and had a good day at Crich. Benno and Cyanide Steve talked some sense into me. Then we went to look at the Samba Roller in Leicestershire that I was intent on getting. Anyways the cars are staying with me for the time being.

Posted

Glad you decided to keep them! I think this is a dilemma we all go through on a regular basis, the heart v head scenario. I too have too many cars and love them all. I can't possibly look after them all in the way I would like. Occasionally I have a reluctant purge, but it's only a short time before the empty space gets filled with more shite, at the same time pining for the ones I got rid of. :D:(

To be honest, I was well impressed with this Polonez, even though it wasn't keen on ticking over when I had a quick drive in it at Shitefest. Felt much, much better than I expected so don't sell it Mr SambaS!
