You can't fault their ambition....

Just to prove that the world of CAR magazine in the 80s wasn't all about Audi Quattros, GTis and Ferraris, here's an advert for what must surely be the shite-est car ever to grease the palms of their advertising department.

I can just hear the copywriters now, "No, no, trust me - De Lorean headlamps ARE exotic." as they cobbled together the blurb for what must have been a very expensive full page ad in the country's premier car magazine at the time.

Ambitious turd-polishing of the highest order.

Definitely look better on a Renault 11.

And what exactly is the free offer of? The whole car?

Fantastic! That's the most ludicrous thing I've ever seen.

Does anyone know if any survive?

I have a question -

Can someone give me a valid reason to buy one of these over a Metro/Fiesta/Nova?

I really can't think of one!

With help from google images I found 2, one yellow saloon:

The vehicle details for Q707 AFG are:

Date of Liability 01 02 1992

Date of First Registration 22 07 1986

Year of Manufacture 1986

Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1300cc

CO2 Emissions Not Available

Fuel Type PETROL

Export Marker N

Vehicle Status Unlicensed

Vehicle Colour RED

Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle

6 Months Rate £74.25

12 Months Rate £135.00

And one red estate (a Sierra and Rico combined) which doesn't come up at all. Not their best seller then!

I think i've seen one or two on eBay over the years. Check the mk1 escort doors with a GRP re-skin!

Growing up in Worfink I used to see a few Duttons around the place. I distinctly remember that there was a black Dutton Sierra down Lloyd Goring Close in Angmering just round the corner from me. Just had a quick look on Google of the off chance its still there but alas no.

I seem to remember knowing the chap who owned the company's son a little too as we were similar ages but its all a bit of a blur really.

Fuck a duck, these things are grim as anything I've ever seen, absolutely brilliant.

They manage to look even more cleft with the escort lights lobbed on, wow!

Holy fuck, thats awful.

Did the designers at Duttin do a lot of drugs or something? Or perhaps they employed kids from the local school to design for them.
