Shite Car Chases

Hi All,

Being sad, I quite like surfing youtube for old car chases, in particular 60s - 80s French car chases where they get quite ridiculous. There's several where they destroy some very pretty cars :( albeit in spectacular style!

However I thought I'd share a favourite of mine.

Soeur Clotilde!

Here's a video of one of her* car chases where a poor blue 2cv gets slowly dissected. A poor Škoda also meets its maker and there's a surprise guest appearance from a Méhari at the end.

*She does appear to get quite the 5 o'clock shadow in some of the distance shots.

I got chased at up to 30mph in my Fiat 126 by an irate taxi driver in an FX4 once, back in 1992. It petered out before I could get to Peat Road Motors in Anniesland where I was convinced that the 126 could get through the bollards at the end of the cul-de-sac but the taxi couldn't - does this count?

Love it!

Yes it does as I know the place well.

Peat Road Motors! There's a name from the past. I used to use that short cut too. At first it was just paved off and then they put up the bollards.

This is spectacularly shit, using the actual Esprit Turbo from the recent For Your Eyes Only film, spot the ski racks on the tailgate. Don't know how they wangled that.

You get one when you type autoshite into Youtubes:

Interesting as you can see a DS's bizarre suspension dynamics in action

Surely the daddy in terms of autoshite action?

I watched that one, marvelling at the reverse flick from the Gamma at the start and the general hoonage from that car and the CX, then went to write a wee comment and saw I've already posted one a year ago!

Did anyone see the Fall Guy on ITV4 this morning? The episode was 'Olympic Quest'. Was a car chase involving a Fiat 128 and a Volvo 244 apparently in Yugoslavia.

It was certainly shite.

As I understand it, the bloke who owned the Bond Lotus lived in Manchester, and actually stumped up cash for Cliff Twemlow's next film - most of the people involved in GBH were Mancunian mates of Twemlow's, or producer David Kent-Watson, so that's presumably how it all came about. Twemlow is an utterly fascinating figure (actor, writer, director, composer, nightclub bouncer), and GBH is a work of genius.

Funnily enough I watched 'Mr Jolly lives next door' the other day. Fair bit o shite there.

Move over Bullitt and your rather lame Mustangs and Chargers....take a piece of this Chrysler 150/Alpine verses Fiat 124 special!! Theres some well dodgy editing in this but its pure Autoshite chase Magic!!

Don't want to bog the thread down so will take any further chat to PM, but - I heard that tale too, but Lotus owned the car until it was auctioned in 1999 to the Cars of the Stars museum. Could someone have "borrowed" it for a road test?

I love a car chase, This one's worth watching for the bi/unicycle bit alone.

Lots of old cars get broken for your amusement.
