Meaningless TV adverts

Knorr stock cubes now seemingly contain ' Real ingredients'! Wtf?

You could buy a Peugeot 208 and "let your body drive"

I have to do that in my car too ever since the psychic mind meld warning light came on, hands, arms, eyes, feet all flayling around. Its a bloody nightmare. :D

Posted

I learned to nip that in the bud years ago! I once let my body drive me home after a solid evening in the local country pub. 1982 it was.... My body drove me into a field and wrote off a borrowed car, never again!

Anything that's "New and improved". Which is it? Or is it both, and the advert a tacit admission that the previous product was "Old and fucking rubbish"

Posted

Adverts on TV for electricity. I'M USING ELECTRICITY TO WATCH THIS ADVERT!

And gas cookers. Gas cookers are smug bastards.

Posted

Indeed so....

Meaningless thread also, but hey! One for the intelligentsia/bored!

Posted

A cleaning product having "Active ingredients".... Well it would be no fucking use without them, now, would it?

84% of women agree....

To what? :|

Bet my missus wouldn't!

Mine too... She never agrees!

Any advert that says things like "5 times faster" - when they really mean 5 times as fast. 5 times faster means 6 times as fast.

Posted

Quite so!

Or, ' Improved formula'

Guess that explains 6Up or WD39

Apologies Mr B! I may be trying too hard to belong here....

Don’t get upset Bob, I just never understand why folk sign up to an old car forum then immediately start filling it up with stuff like ‘hey is anyone here into fell running/tropical fish/S+M/communism?’ or whatever. Its like going into a Pizzeria and asking for some fuggin Dim Sums.

If you want to fit in post up some pictures of your motors! I may be wrong but i don’t think you have even told us what car you’ve got have you? Give us the lowdown on your fleet, what you’ve got, why you like it, what state its in etc etc.

Understood! Thankyou for the wise words.

Have already done that on another post but got a tad giddy with the extra posting!

All under control now... Honest!

Great to discover the 21st Century equivalent of Jalopy magazine... Hence the giddiness.

Autoshite is a nice place to be, to mis quote someone!

Possibly because quite a lot of other forums tend to have "off topic" areas where people discuss non forum theme related stuff, whereas AS is a whole sort of general mish mash - a bit like pubs these days since they all got rid of the public bar /snug areas and just had one big happy family open area where you can bring the kids and have chicken in a basket.

Whilst the demise of pubs is unfortunate, I do lean slightly to agreeing to this! Plus there is/was some extremely funny and usefull off topic stuff on here!

At the end of the day its not my forum and everyone should post up whatever they want. I reserve the right to whinge about OT drivel but then again everyone else has the right to ignore my whinging and even to tell me to FOAD if they like so it all evens out.

I maintain that its poor form to sign up to a car forum though and immediately start filling it up with non-car waffle, might as well just go on facebook. Having said that, some folk just seem to be totally unable to resist posting inane chatter about their pets, diet, neighbours, health, TV viewing habits etc wherever they go, even assuming they have a god-given right to do so, which again is poor form IMO, and that the forum should be modified to accommodate their needs. “We should have an OT section, because although this is a car forum and thats why I signed up to it in the first place, I like posting and reading OT stuff and want to be able to do so right here on this particular forum†Thats not a dig at you beardybob by the way, just a general observation.

Crikey.

Here you go...

I can't disagree with that, things have gone a bit wide of the main topic in the last few years.

Message well and truly received chaps.

Fully agree with Mr B, much sense there!

Wouldnt dream of it.

My post was like yours an observation, not a justification. Though I post an inordinate amount of non car related shite (because I dont do nearly enough stuff with cars these days as what I used to do) but I still like it here.

Posted

It's a sad state of affairs if you can't talk about stuff other than cars. Let's face it, conversations wander this way and that when at the pub, so why not on a forum?

Posted

Still like to think of AS as a kind of 'local pub' where like minded folks gather to talk shite about shite..

Though Mr B has got it spot on really. It really should be about old cars and not general chit chat. My bad

The Autoshite Arms? Mr Bollox as landlord??

I'm all for the 'General Waffle' on here, it's pretty much un-moderated, which is refreshing in this day and age, If I don't like a thread, I don't read it.

TBH, at Shitefest loads of us met up, and I recon that 60% of the conversation wasn't about cars.

Posted

What's wrong with a bit of off topic chat? Just look at the size of the grump and grin threads, which are full of non car stuff. Otherwise it would end up like the RR general boards, i.e. endless pictures and no interesting debate

+1

This must be one of the few car sites where there isn't an O/T section, and I'm not sure we don't suffer for it to a certain extent. :(

There are probably lots of people on here who could contribute some really good stuff that are to a certain extent deterred from doing so A) by the lack of a dedicated section for random nonsense and B) because a small minority moan about it when someone does post something non shite-related.

I'm sure no-one's suggesting we turn this place into some dribbling Farcebook-substitute but I wouldn't mind seeing the odd post about general amusement stuff, music, PC issues, telly programmes etc.

Only my 2p worth, obviously...
