1962 Lancia Flavia 1.8

One of two new vehicular acquisitions, the other can be seen in my other thread.

Bought to fix up and sell on, thought I'd show you guys the build progress. Won't be any updates for a long while though as we can't do much more than the interior until we get premises to work from (which we're looking for now).

Lovely example of a fairly rare car. The interior was completely shagged, that horrible foam stuff had devolved to the consistency of yellowish flour and sprayed everywhere the moment you put any weight on the upholstery. Thankfully we have someone from the Lancia club who loves these cars to completely restore the interior to standard in beautiful red leather. The engine runs (we drove it onto the drive) but the brakes are completely shot to hell, the whole brake system needs pulling out and rebuilding. The engine will be taken apart and reconditioned anyway regardless of running fine, as we have no idea when the internals (piston rings, followers, bearings, clutch plate, etc) were last changed.

The best thing so far was driving it onto the drive at 11:30pm after taking delivery.. with no exhaust.

Our neighbours were "displeased" at being "roused".

Pictures show the interior after taking it out ready to be sent away to be recovered.

Oh, and no shots of the engine. Sorry.

Bonnet cable has snapped.

Easy fix but need to lift it.

I really feel some genuine trouser tentage for that.

Wow. That's just fabulous. Almost entirely forgotten these things. Flat fours aren't they?

These are one of the best looking cars of all time I reckon. I'd walk over most '60s Ferraris to get to one of these. Please tell me you're going to lose the ghastly and wholly inappropriate duotone paint (either shade would look lovely on its own - I'd probably get it all done in the top colour personally) and paint the wheels the right colour? Do that and you'll have the best car in all of Shitedom

The two tone paintworks a winner for me on this one;both very nice colours

As far as I know, yeah. I'm kinda forgetting what the engine looks like, we lifted the bonnet before purchase then the cable broke.

It's a lovely car and if I had the money after rebuilding it I'd buy it off myself, but need to pay back the costs of the rebuild somehow.

The other part-owner who's rebuilding it with me wants to remove the two tone and respray it a flat grey but we may come to blows over that as I think it's beautiful as-is.

I think the whole two tone argument comes down to purely personal taste.

What a beauty, i'm 100% with Commissioner Barrett on the styling/paint opinions. A few years back theres an outside chance i'd have got a shitty one of these BUCKLEY STYLZ but nowadays theyre a bit outta my league

If you were planning on keeping the car then I'd agree, but if you want to get the best price when you sell it then you really should get it all back in to one colour. As it stands it's unoriginal and - clearly - contentious and although that sort of thing rarely matters at the Shite end of the market, when you're dealing with a pukka cla**ic like this people are gonna notice. Ditto the wheels; It may seem like a small point but if you sell this to a Lancia enthusiast they are going to budget getting them put back to standard and then try and knock at least that off your asking price...

I love Flavias, they sound wonderful although my favourite is the Flavia Sport with added Zagato lunacy.

I made a little filmic tribute to the Zagato Lancias if anyone's interested in such things

Absolutely stunning and one of the great Italian cars - with the Alfa 2600 Sprint, they're as close as you can get to a sixties Ferrari in style and sheer quality. I preferred the later 2000 with the simpler four headlight front grille but these are still so exotic. The days before Fiat fucked it all up with crap like the Delta *sigh*

Oh yes, well bought sir!

Flat four is right - the underbonnet view of these is a bit uninspiring to be honest, being mostly air cleaner (although it seems yours has migrated to the boot) and pipes.

Personally I rather like the 2-tone too, although I expect Barrett is right from a commercial point of view.

Do I spy the remnants of a leopard print seat cover there? As said on the phone, I'm all about the red interior and two-tone grey but I do have to agree with Barrett on the commercial aspect of the car and get it back to a standard combo for maximum cash moneys. Alternatively, it's my birthday soon and you've not told me what I'm getting yet...

You're getting a Lancia Flavia 1.8!

Unfortunately, it will be this one.

Yes, yes you do. Whoever had it in the past... well... was probably a pimp.

Agree with Barrett on the single paint colour, for commercial and aesthetic reasons. Incidentally if there are any Peter Gabriel fans around here you probably know this is the car he was sat in on the cover of his first album.

What a beautiful car. I don't remember seeing any of these around in the 60s and 70s so it was pretty rare back then. It's a B reg so surely that makes it a 1964 model ? Can't imagine the DVLA allowing it to be registered on a newer plate than its real age allows.

They won't now, but they used to. My 1972 Renault 6 is on a V suffix; I also had a 1972 BMW on an N and a 1955 Standard Vanguard on a Y.

A truly beautiful car! I admire you, sir!!
