Cortina

I heard a few minutes on Radio 2 today of Jeremy Vine interviewing the development engineer of the Mk1 Cortina. I don't know if he was being deliberately dense but questions such as " So how did you get the weight down? Was it by using lighter trim?" didn't really demonstrate any understanding or intuition.

We didn't worry about weight,as we knew from the design brief that it was going to rot like hell anyway, and soon weigh half of its factory weight

I heard some of that today.

Jeremy Vine does come across like an amateur journalist/news presenter at times. Not just Ford Cortinas but even current affairs.

There was a good feature on the One show on Wednesday night too, worth a quick look on the iplayer about 50mins into the episode.

Jeremy Vine is a fuggin' nonce. After exhausting my Genesis Invisible Touch album in the Bluebird the other week, I made the mistake of tuning in to Radio 2 for the first time in aeons. Never. Again.

jezza is a top bloke, but unfortunately his knowledge relates to current affairs rather than 50-odd year old car design

there was an article about Cortinas in the Daily Mail yesterday.. someone text me to let me know they'd used a pic I'd taken of one of my old Cortinas sat outside my house. Must have pinched it off google images..

I'm not sure what the going rate is now, but when a newspaper used one of my photographs without credit or permission I charged them £60.

There's a reason for this. A mate was on the student paper with him at Durham in the mid-80s, and by all accounts he was a dick even then. Not much seems to have changed...

:?: .... So how come the Beeb isn't showing Arena 'Private life of..'

Well it is common for an interviewer to play it on the thick side in order to ask the questions the listeners may be interested in hearing answers to & while the average Radio 2 listener may have reasonable intelligence not many of them are car enthusiasts & even those that are may well not be all that well informed on Cortinas.

No interview would be worth much if the interviewer only asked the questions they didn't know the answer to & wanted to have answered themselves, but you fellas knew this already right?
