I wonder how they came up with that font on the speedo etc, I have to say I find it quite funny. It does look like some germans tried to copy a grandfather clock they saw on a film of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

You ARE wearing trousers of some sort, aren't you?

I was meaning to get one of these for a daily, but accidentally bought a huge Volvo instead

Ah the memories. They really are a nice place to sit. Shame they're not quite as good as they should be. Potentially brilliant.

I love the dashboard on these, even the ridiculous font, it's just the steering wheel that's a bit of a let down to me, aesthetically. Still really, really want a black estate one of these one day with the cream leather interior, or a red leather interior if they did one. Unlikely to ever happen, but I can dream.

I really want one of these 75s, and yes, I want it with the coolant pissing, head-gasket killing KV6 engine, or even better a Rover 75 in V8 flavour. Have tried a 1.8, nice and comfy inside but the 1.8 engine seemed a bit 'meh'. I also tried the oMG ZT Diesel, that was very dissapointing.

I like ours.......goes well, cheap to run, comfortable not much else to ask for.

"red leather interior "

Yes there was a dark red leather for this

I didn't give a hoot about the 75 when it was a current car, but now it's firmly in Autoshite territory, it really appeals to me :)

I had the ex Wobbler / Minimad one, it was [is] excellent, although mpg wasn't brilliant, it was a nice drive, and very comfy, although synchro was on the way out. Now residing in Jersey with a good friend of mine, who goes to France in it a lot. He said it's weird the number of French registered 75s there are over there.

MPG not brilliant? It was doing 48-50 when I had it, which I thought was pretty reasonable. S'pose long cruises aren't really something you can do on the wee islands...

It is true that you see a lot of French 75s. I do wonder if they're all owned by ex-pats or if the French just like them.

It's probably to do with pricing. I remember visiting a Rover dealer in Greece around 2003ish (probably on behalf of my parents), having a quick look at the 45, and being told, without having really enquired, that prices (which were already keen, especially when you consider that the cars were brimming with leather, wood and electronic gadgetry which would've cost a lot extra elsewhere) were 'very negotiable'. I'm sure that discounts had also been available in the UK, but I'd be surprised if the extent was similar.

36 mpg over here, which actually isn't bad.

Good grief! I never got close to that, even thrashing it around the Welsh hills. Another plus point - I found the MPG display was actually pretty darned close to reality.

I drove a few 75s back when they were new (I was getting a hire car one day a week for a longish trip to college/Uni, and drove most current cars that Enterprise/Budget had on their fleets). All were petrol engined ones and the engines were a bit meh (as has already been said). The rest of the car was pretty good though, and certainly as good (to me) as other volume makes' products at the time.

A mate later had the MG version with the BMW diesel donk under the bonnet. It was good, except for the 'sportiness' (i.e. hard ride) engineered into it. On that basis I would expect the diesel 75 to be a pretty nice thing to tool about in. Never tried one, but if one came into my orbit at the right price I'd definitely be tempted.

The image is a bit 'pipe and slippers', and the dials look as if they've come pre nicotine stained from the factory. This is Autoshite though: when did we ever let oddness put us off a car?

Is the 75 maybe even the new Tagora? It is, after all the last big car from a now deceased manufacturer, heavily influenced by the meddling of a parent company.*

* Maybe not. They sold too many.
