Nice little bike - my '76 model cost me the grand total of £70 to buy in 1982 and then I had to spend another £2 to get a replacement rear mudguard!

Great times

Good luck with the sale.

Good Lord.

I remember my Fizzy cost me £200, sold it for the same 12 months later.

Nice and nippy, but I was constantly chasing the rust on it (but I ride in all weathers and keep the bike outdoors, so they tend to go a bit crusty round the edges after a while, I cant be doing with fair weather bikers  )

I had a Popsicle Purple Fizzy in 1979, when I was 17, but it was shite. My brother and I bought it from a bloke who saw us coming.

Nowadays, purple ones and yellow ones go on eBay for £3K plus, on occasion. Daft, but that's nostalgia for you. Some people buy them to hang up as wall sculptures, I kid you not.

Interesting collection there, BV.

Nice bike- but I'm an early Suzuki man. Sold my 1970 AS50 recently after an embarrassing incident with a sheep! (No animals were damaged in the making of that farce)

Loads of fun -use a little 63 Suzy 80 as a runaround these days.

Good luck with the sale

The stuff of legends in the school playgrounds of the early 1980's. I know I was there, what is more I can pretty much guarantee that my best mates, next door neighbour's brother manage to get 42mph out of his Fizzie on the Ewell bypass!

I would love another but they seem to have scene tax applied, plus mrs the stag would never let me!!

i love these but my 50cc of choice has to be a kawasaki ar50 i had a black one it was awesome, i played about with the engine and enjoyed peeing the scooter boys off frequently

I don't think there was ever a FS1E that did less than 40. Same school experience as you Richard, though in the late 70's they all did 55mph+ if you put drops and a Micron on them!

Fizzies were the subject of mahoosive fibbing. Everyone claimed to be able to wheelie to the chip shop and back at 60. In fact, if you exceed 40 on one of these, you die of mind-shattering terror.

To be quite honest, mine could do an indicated 46MPH on the flat with the head on the clocks, body tucked completely in.

I watched James May trying to do this but he failed completely at getting down low...lol.

Going from Stow to Lauder on the B6362, down a very long steep hill I'd get an indicated 56MPH - I actually achieved an indicated 80MPH on my Suzuki GP100 on the same hill....

The piston eventually shattered and after replacement, it never went above 40MPH on the flat...

I wanted a Fizzy but when confronted with the prospect of mixing oil and petrol I bottled out.

And bought a 4 stroke Honda SS50 instead;

I think you were better off with the SS50 for running costs.

Better MPG and no pesky expensive 2-stroke to buy....

Then again, I was still at school when I was 16 and had about 3 quid a week to run a 50!

My mate Moray had a '75 C50 that would do an indicated 50MPH on the flat and abotu 150MPG or something ridiculous - looked horrendous of course! It was some sort of faded green colour.

I had a Garelli Tiger Cross, thank goodness they restricted 79 onwards peds to 30 mph IMHO, 50mph on a cycle track in Stevenage is ridiculous...

One of the guys that used to ride around with us (Rob Young) had a Garelli Tiger Cross as well - was pretty quick but he traded it in for a new Honda MT5 which must have been the slowest 50 ever produced....

one of my mates had a Honda MT5 too, it made my Garelli seem soo fast!

I've been on Youtube....

This is exactly the same as my old one (JSH 661 P)

Here is my other Fizzy. This one has a disc brake, and is a bit quicker. Not for sale!

Big time continuity errors in the filming when the Fizzy comes along with the girl on the back - looks like an RD twin or suchlike...?

I think they were just at the time of 'proper' restrictions then so were almost certainly made to not go over 30mph. Seem to recall 1st was enough to pop a wheelie but all gears ran out of steam extremely quickly.

The AP50 was a rival (of sorts) to the FS1E and also attracted owners who talked of doing 81mph up hill just because they fitted drops!

Jump on him, wrestle him to the ground, and force grubby dollar bills into his sweaty hand.

I'll give him a call on Sunday to talk about the 175cc and see what the chap says.
