A pair of decent headlamps for a Mk1 Sierra? Not the boggo spec single units, the ones with the separate high beams. Also, a good n/s/r door for a Mk1 Sierra estate could quite possibly be needed shortly, and possibly a front wing.

A chap I know has had a black Mk1 Sierra 4x4 2.8i Ghia estate from new and I've been after the thing for 10 years or so. It's finally failed the MOT so now is my chance. It needs a fair bit of welding above the fuel tank, a bit of tidying, quite probably a camshaft etc and a lot of TLC but if I can get it for sensible money I'll give it the full resto treatment over the next couple of years.

So, if anyone has Sierra lights etc please let me know. Ta.

Sadly I seem to recall a recent Practical Classics describing those headlamps as a bit hen's teeth. Is it duff silvering that's the problem?

Posted

Yup, the silvering is FUBAR.

Must be a way to redo it, shirley?

You'd've thought so. I know the 2CV Club has had some Ami headlamps re-silvered. Tricky bit is getting the glass and reflector apart without ruining either.

Oh for the days when everything had the same 7" sealed beam units eh?

Can't you stuck them in a microwave to melt the sealer? I'm sure I've read how that has worked successfully for people in the past.

If not keep a eye open at autojumbles, i'm sure they must pop up from time to time.

SCTSH had his 9000 headlamps re done. He sent them away. I will find out where he went for you.

My Innocenti has passed two MoTs now with the n/s headlight reflector made almost entirely out of silver tape. Works fine, and a lot cheaper than having the reflectors professionally resilvered.

I'm not sure if the microwave would enjoy cooking a headlamp.

Are they not clipped together like Mondeo lamps?

Whilst giving PeteM's request a little bump, may I also expand this to ask whether anyone has any LDV / Leyland Daf 200 tail light clusters gathering dust anywhere? If so, or if anyone can point me in the right direction, please let me know. Many thanks.

The Sierra Mk1 light lenses are clipped to the body. If they are Cibie units, they should be easier to strip, as they were put together properly. Watch for the cheaper Carello units, as they will be hot welded possibly................

:

Mk1 headlamps clip together

the cibbe unit uses a metal reflector but the lucas unit uses a plastic one

the big reflector is the same in the small basic headlamps and big lamps and can be easily changed and silver paint works well on the driving lamp part

But cibbe & lucas dont mix
