fotorabia Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Yesterday I decides to expell my full tank of diesel on the 300D and take it for its first highway jaunt out to the sticks..the stereo is loud enough to drown out the stuffed engine mounts..and over 90kphs its quieter anyhoo..so the beast brought us to a tiny wee place called Talbot..the wreckers opened by Kelly 38 years ago... Camera fail setting on the way there.. So..on arrival..quick chat selling Autoshite /RR..hed already started clearing the yard of export Ford Escorts cos he hated them...
fotorabia Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Kellys rather splendid Holden ute...so the Merc proved its worth...it might be a bomb..but its a glorious disaster..
vulgalour Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 This looks for all the world like a Securicor Transit crossed with a Mini estate. Of all the wonderful pictures of wonderful things, that's the one that jumped out at me because it's so odd.

My initial impression as well Volksy..but in fact it was a sound experiment where they created a 19000w soundsystem inside it...and soundproofed it..the doors were filled with concrete..
AeroNautiCal Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 That Mini is certainly the most interesting (for me).
rml2345 Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Great pics of dead shite there. I bet someone somewhere is lookIng for he bonnet trim off a Borgward...
RedSparrow Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Amazing stuff. Sad that there's no econimical way of getting that lot to europe, most of them would be snapped up.Also Leyland P76 FTW.
face Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Excellent pictures, kudos for taking and posting them up. Ned Kelly's flatbed FTW
whiskeyonesix Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Excellent stuff! Half of those would still be road-legal over here in WA
dollywobbler Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Crikey. Enough pics there for several calendars! Just noticed the wipers on this Renner 12. How come Aussie 12s had the wipers the right way around but UK market ones didn't? A quick Google suggests this isn't a one off.
Mash Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 Awesome, awesome pics of some really cool cars, love the Datsun 1000. All looks pretty far gone however. I take it banger racing is not popular over there?!!? That field would be cleared in no time here haha!
Pete-M Posted August 1, 2012 Posted August 1, 2012 I'd love a P76. They're so awkward it's excellent.

How come Aussie 12s had the wipers the right way around but UK market ones didn't? A quick Google suggests this isn't a one off. According to Wiki (boo-hiss etc) they were assembling 12s down there for a fairly long time and then the government introduced rules on cars being sold in Oz, one of which was the wipers being the right way for RHD cars... presumably seeing as they were making them solely for the Aussie market down under they didn't think of extending the privilege to us. As for the P76, only BL could make such a lovely if slightly confusing beast.
fotorabia Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 Glad u all like the photos..thanks for the positivity..and ShepShep..there were 3 x 164's in the yard...ive now heard about another yard in nth Victoria..its only 3800 cars..so thats my nxt mission...
406V6 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I came over in a hot flush initially thinking this might be a scrapyard full of Alpines, Solaras, Sambas and Tagoras but nevertheless great shots with some pretty unusual vehicles in there. Particularly the (Morris ?) Major, P76s and the brace of 50+ year old PA Crestas and F Victor.
Jon Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Looks like you're up to your usual tricks of discovering mighty scrappies, Rab. Only noticed recently that I've got a povo-spec grille for my SL Commodore, when in fact it should have one like this : rather than the one it has now: If you see one on your travels, let me know! I know I could try and paint the black bits silver but I'd rather not risk cocking it up. My sister's living in Aus, which could make it easier to deal with postage and payments. In fact, while you're working miracles, I'll take one of these single spoke wheels from a VK Calais. In blue.

Bit of a tangent to this thread but that does re-open the debate as to what IS the right way round for RHD or LHD. It all depends on the car. With many older cars, the windscreen is fairly shallow top to bottom so it's better to have the wipers go the "wrong way" because you end up with a massive unswept area at the other end. The Allegro, XJ6 and Dolomite are prime examples of this. With the Marina they changed them early in the production from "right way" to "wrong way" but you could still argue that you got a better clear area on the driver's side by doing this.
mk2_craig Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Fantastic! Not much of it looking realistically saveable unfortunately, which is a shame given the amount half decent Esc ort and Mini vans are going for over here these days
CortinaDave Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Grab the window louvre off the mk3 cortina in the pics... the last one on ebay sold for near £500....

Split_Pin Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Seems like it takes about 50 years plus for anything to suffer partial collapse where you are! I also love the look of those P76s. Another great spotted update - thanks for sharing!
