For Sale: 1985 Mini City E - £1275

We've decided the Mini has to go. MOT passed this morning with an advisory for surface corrosion on the underside but otherwise fine!

Drives well - engine's great. Gearbox is good but some noise on the over-run. Bodily fairly solid but rust is creeping in on the seams so she's a fixer-upper really. 66k miles on the clock but this could mean anything. It had 36k on the clock when we bought it in 2006 but no history.

Restored in 2008 with full respray, new rear subframe in 2010 along with a rear brake overhaul. Had a caliper overhaul (new pistons and seals) in late 2010. Recently drove to Cornwall and back.

Downsides are leaking door seals (carpet is currently out), a missing headlamp trim and a non-working stereo. Never got the aerial refitted after the resto and have removed the speakers as they bounced around on the parcel shelf and weren't very useful with no radio signal anyway. Engine leaks a bit of oil - always has. Rocker cover gasket far past its best, as are the gear linkage seals. Does not lose vast quantities - just enough to keep the front subframe from corroding.

Selling as she's doing less than 2000 miles a year and we don't have enough covered parking.

Here's a pic from last year. I'll get some current ones up when it stops bloomin' raining.

Asking £1495 but very much open to offers. Located West Wales.

Forgot to say it includes tax until November. May exchange/swap for a small hatchback - with as few power assists as possible. My wife hates technology. (what a woman!)

This would have been ideal for my cousin but she did not bite the bullet and got either an Aygo/C1/107 instead. Oh well. GLWTS DVD BBQ ETC

I am so incredibly tempted - that's a great price. But I already have one 1985 Mini here that doesn't get enough love!

I don't think you'll have trouble shifting it Ian.

Thanks folks. It is certainly huge fun - I forgot quite how much until I drove to the test today. Nothing changes direction like a Mini!

It's a sale driven by reality. There's no point having it sitting around not being used when I've got so many cars. With my Citroen love, I just prefer cars with suspension!

Ah but this isn't your car its Rachaels, so does that count?

Ahem. Only one 'a' you know...

She also fails to see the point in having a car she uses so little. It's fine at the moment - it's exceedingly cheap to run - but a few more Welsh winters and it'll need another few grand sinking into it. We don't have that sort of money kicking about any more, so it'd be better going to someone who'll enjoy it more and who can keep it drier than we can!

We'll either not replace it directly at all, or buy some crapply little modern-ish box that we can just throw away if it falls apart.

:?: ..I sort of never got the MiNi... being an IMP nutter :? ... even fewer got them, I suppose!

The current 'plague' of Aygo clones [aye, even WITH the leaky hatch rubbers - the legend that is MiNi 'leaks' lives on] gives the sweating populace a refuge from fuel robbery... the MiNi has simply 'dissolved' from the highstreet.

NOT a knock at the MiNi [or anyones cherished example].... just the thought that a 'Summer Only/Track Rocket' seems to be all thats left :!:

Seems very good vfm to me, especially when you see the sort of dosh these make if you kit them out in tacky aftermarket junk.

Please dont, I got quite Pissed Off when PC or was it Car Mechanics did that with one they rebuilt. I used to stand there swearing at the magazine in John Menzies.

Why are you filling my for sale ad with oddness?

Possibly because we are all to skint to buy your Mini. :(

That said Docco G likes the look of it.

GLWS - is it now at a GT price?

My first trip ever in a mini was in 1974 or 5 to go to my uncle's wedding - mum had hired a car! Uncle was road manager for the Bay City Rollers so there were three of them at the wedding!

Aye. Might take a cheeky offer, but not one that matches the actual engine size...

Tempted to lob it on US Ebay. Being over 25 means it doesn't need to suffer any import VIN plate swapping...

Does that mean you'll not take £850 quids then?

Cheek. It's a full 998cc! Offers above that invited.
