I really admire your dedication for considering this CX Scoots, but it's definitely beyond redemption.

Spares would be its only use before fragging that collander they're using as a shed.

I'm struggling to see anything of use tbh.

Needs weighing, collect 200 sheets, do not pass Go.

I can only echo 99% of the folk on here and say don't do it. If you were single, had a fully sorted workshop, could weld and had LOTS of spare time, it would be a go-er. As someone with a family, an illness and running their own business, it sadly makes no sense at all.

Look at the expressions of amazement when I got my BX? There was one key difference. It was all-together, fairly solid and I knew it wouldn't take much to get it MOTd (imagine my relief when I was proved right!). It only works for me being a rolling restoration, and even then you've seen the trauma I've gone through at times when it all gets a bit much. This CX is entirely in a different league and as we all know, just because it's rare doesn't make it valuable. I sold my CX Familiale (same engine, Series 2 though) for £565 and it then sold on Ebay for less than £400! Some CXs fetch decent coin but they must be absolutely tip-top condition. No-one wants a wreck.

If you ever want to know what owning a DS is like, wake up each hour during the night to set fire to £200.

I love them though, but then I regard a Velosolex as a practical means of transport.

Exactly. If you want a car to send you to the poorhouse it might as well be a stylish one like a DS or some form of Maserati, not a CX.

Whats the worst that could happen?

Hmm.

Your other half has a massive freak out when he/she claps eyes on it, and you end up living in it.

Pikeys nick it for scrap while you sleep.

Your neighbours get sick of looking at it and torch it.

After two years of work you get it running, but a freak electrical fire burns it (and your house) to the ground.

Hmmmm CX or as they call it in Gloucestershire, CeeArks

Plus points:

If you have to sleep in it, its bigger than some London flats.

If you have to diversify into the private ambulance / Hearse racket you can fit a body sorry patient in the back no bovver.

They are a big comfy car, but it could be years before you get to try it.

Negs:

Its not a car that has big partner credit i.e. they are not going to fall over themselves to be seen in it.

It will cost a lot, regardless of what it will be worth.

Its more complex than a DS, and has less parts availability.

Alternatives

How about an XM or a GSA.

You want big comfy Frog barge? I know where there's a 604 STi auto..... which nobody has bought from me yet.... ok, bigger purchase price, but it works, has mot and tax and a brown velour interior.

I'm not too clued up on the GSA scene. Is there such a thing as a non frilly GSA's at a reasonable price?

Dunno about the XM. Paying road tax on cars with big engines is like getting an ass-raping in this neck of the woods..

Maybe I'll get an XM when I can find a 30 year old one that I can tax for €50 a year.

GSAs don't seem to fetch ridiculous money at all, though they're not exactly autoshite-cheap. A really, really tidy one might fetch a few grand. I was chauffeured around Cheltenham in a gorgeous GS X on Saturday night. They really are incredible machines. To think, this car was launched at a time when Morris was still making the Minor and the Oxford...

you'll be lucky to find an XM in 30 years - just about to tax my one on thursday. Passed its MoT this year and was let off quite lightly at one tyre, a couple of bushes and wiper blades.

I've owned 3 CX's and one GS. The first CX was an 84 CX20 Athena Safari in giffer spec gold. It was OK and lots of room in the back too. The 2nd was a "free just come and collect it from Aberdeen" black 89 22TRS, with rust,1 month's MOT and Tax, a full tank (60 litres) of Unleaded, VIP interior, rust, 5 spoke black revolution alloys, rust and electrical maladies. I bought some black gaffa tape for the numerous bodywork repairs and sold it one moth later with an empty fuel tank for £50 to mate. He ran it for 2 years before swapping it for a 16valve BX.

The last CX was bought by my father who kept changing his mind whether he wanted it or not, so I ended up owning it and loaning it to him. That was a 84 CX 25 Pallas Auto in Rouge de Garrance with stainless steel trim etc, very lovely that was to drive as well. Kicked myself when I sold it.

The GS by contrast was a bit of an unhappy experience as I sold my Trabi to buy a minter from a private museum. Trouble is that GS/GSA's don't like sitting about idle so it had numerous faults. It was a lovely car to drive however, very nimble. You can still find GSA's in France for autoshite money, and to be honest the GS/GSA (and CX, 2CV, Dyane, Ami for that matter) were designed to be LHD rather than RHD.
