Maserati shite

I've shuffled some things around and am going to have a look at the Biturbo on ebay tomorrow am.

Does anyone have any advice what to check for on these cars, apart from the usual; rust and not working electrics. It's been standing for a number of years and no T&T so can't really drive it, I'll see if I can try a little run down the block if the owners willing....

shhhhhhmokin ! make sure it doesnt white/blue smoke when hot ... you will need to drive it tho really to test for a deffinate... accelerate hard, then let overrun - coast for few seconds then boot it again and look in mirror... if you cant see much behind its fekd and stupidly expensive to fix.... can qalso happen when just hot sat still and rev hard and fast. .... couple of em near me, one is like brand new and total p.i.t.a but nice when its behaving, which is very rare.... just like gremlins-dont go out at night in it (electrics) and dont show it water (rust)

Is it JohnF who owns the other one? I am sure between them they know what you need to.

PM Mr Bo11ox.

He has one of these.

He paid a small amount (I want to say £350) for a very rotten example and ended up going to Germany to pick up a less-rotten front end.

EFA - the spare front end had seen some remedial action prior to his fettling of it.

Cheers guys, I've just sent Mr bo11ox a pm.

So far, rusty front ends any smoke, and electrics.

I know it's not the standard Autoshite answer but I'd run a mile from that car.

I think the panels are made of solid unobtainium so id be wary of previously bodged repairs. Have you seen bolloxs thread on retrorides as that will show you all you need to know about how these things rot?

After reading Bol's work on his I'm now very concerned about rust.

Cheers John, after reading your thread as well I am now very worried. Slight surface rust does seem to hide all manner of nastiness underneath.

Well, the ebay maserati looks good on the surface, it allegedly had new sills and a respray before it was stored (outside) for 4yrs and there is just a bit of rust around window trims. Engine runs fine, and the box feels good. Arches and boot floor were solid as well. Electrics seem to work fine but the tyres will need replacing.

I was quite interested .... then we had a prod around the inside, inner sills and floorpan rotten, closer inspection on the rear windows and they were slightly loose and quite crusty all round, with that we said good bye and walked away.

I went with Senor Bollox to collect his BiTurdo from the Norf-Eest.

It actually looked semi-reasonable when he bought it, shagged, obviously, but it looked like a nice easy job.

Having done an engine rebuild on one of these many many moons ago I swore that I'd never again have anything to do with one. An easy promise when you've seen the likes of the BollTurdo and John F's mission just trying to get the bloody things through MOTs.

They make the 604 look dead easy.

Take it to vin, skattrd, he'll have it sorted in a week for you - he's used to Italian rust !!!
