Folks, I got contacted by a mate of a mate who was asking if is be interested in driving his car from Edinburgh to Malaga. All flights, insurance, fuel, accomodation, ferries and tolls paid for. He's offering 300 quid cash. Does this sound reasonable?

2800km drive - which ferry by the way (Santander - Plymouth is best)

four days drive probably (at least 32 hours non stop).

Is it worth £75 a day for an all expenses paid jaunt? I think it might be if you have the time and aren't doing anything anyway.

300 is decent chod budget....tempted to see if there is a shonky old Seat to drive back!

it is decent chod budget - I reappraised the timing after discovering it was 2800km.

Make him get the Santander ferry for you rather than Dover Calais - shorter distance to drive, longer on the ferry but no hassles of driving 1000 miles through France. Then it's looking better.

It'd depend on what car it is, if it's some nasty old clunker then you have to consider the agony of the journey!

£300 doesn't sound a lot for a few days and a very long drive, but if you've got nowt on then as M.O said it's probably worth it.

If it is the biscay ferry its not too bad...its a bit light on find for the Millau viaduct car looks like a large mpv

Get a return santander ticket & bring me a nice Renault 7 back.

Winner all round

The driving through France is the good bit !

If you are not pushed for time you have the entire country to explore and £300 in your sky rocket to do whatever you want

If you've got nothing else on, go for it, i defo would. i do the drive through france both ways 3 times a year on average, and if it wasn't for the pain of shelling out for the motorway because i'm always in a rush, i'd actually enjoy it, so with all expenses paid it'll be a blast.

Get a return santander ticket & bring some cheap old barge back.

Winner all round

It's going to be a week's work or more driving both ways but for 300 plus expenses? I would!

If it's a large MPV (or even better, a Maxi or a CX Safari) you can sleep in it and pocket the hotel expenses :twisted:

Nah, take the luxury option, it's the other bloke's dime! Comfy bed + hot meal + proper bath = driver fit for the next leg tomorrow. Makes sense to me.

Spanish chod to buy:

Renault Siete

Austin Victoria

Pegaso J4 van

Seat Bocanegra

Seat 600/850

You forgot to mention the Malaga, Ronda and Marbella (BTW I've just noticed that these towns are almost next to each other!).

Quite a few Chryslers (some of them locally made) and Talbots also knocking about.

Sloaaaaaaaaaaaaraaaaaaa!

A free drive to Spain AND £300? If you've got the time it would be almost rude not to...

Bring back a Seat Marbella!

Do we know what car we're talking about here? If theres even a remote chance of it not making it, i would fook this idea off i'm afraid, you just know if owt goes wrong you'll be mega out of pocket and the owner will inevitable blame you for the problem.

if you do go I'd like a Biscuter brought back.

Sounds like a great idea if the car is upto the job. For the fella to ask you to drive it all the way there he must rather attached to the car or something. If I had the chance to do this, I probably would, although as said, I'd like to at least be happy that the car will make the journey. Get some European breakdown cover if you can, piece of mind.

Good luck with the journey if you do go on it! 8)

Good point. Alternatively, I'll come along with you as I already have this. When are you going?

Sounds great as long as your not driving there in a Fiat 126 or something.

If the guy has asked for his car to he driven down, its fair to assume he's confident the car will make it. I've driven from the north of England to the south of France and even to Spain countless times, more often than not in pretty beat up vehicles. It's not a demanding drive, as long as you take it easy. Can I have the job ?
