It's lost a mirror but the Spirit of Ecstasy straightened up OK

I saw the missing wing mirror and thought it was my one!  But no.  It is still here, after all.  Phew...

What are the chances eh?  Well pretty likely to be fair...  Polistil seemed to achieve a build quality standard a Rolls Royce shouldn't see:  bits would fall off from day one.

So was it worth £10 plus P&P ?

Will get back later on this.

I think it was, as the reproduction catalogue bundled with it is a good read

WHO DID IT WORSE?  GT. BRITAIN or CHINA ?

The bumpf says that buying the Mini on subscription makes the Anglia free as that cost is reimbursed.  Must check that, but in the meantime - wow! it's like being 7 years old again.

So do I sell them straight away and pay-off the mortgage* or keep them for my grandchildren (who will very likely hate them as sky cars will by chasing about by then)

Just giving the red 240Z a once over with a cotton bud

20210609_194445

And compared it to the red/white which happened to be in the cabinet

20191212_171919

No spotlights. Hmm. Bases differ too, white one mentions mazak and has the pat app number in a different place

So how exactly are these being designed? Someone starting from scratch but looking at an original for reference, or scanning an original but changing it enough that it's not quite identical? Seems an odd way to go about it, why not copy it exactly if you're going to the trouble?

I think the card with it explains:

I think the opportunity was there to do the later, Monte Carlo winning car version.  It was the same driver in both wins though: Rauno Aaltonen

200px-B.jpg.693ecfd3be0bbe16cfa1ba29b4e8ec9f.jpg 1965

and

a9918c21ded1f3101f17c5ddfe45843a--cooper-car-mini-cooper-s.jpg.65628b62fcf7f6ce0c8d9a5966dc440c.jpg 1967

I only photographed it to compare the casting really, as I don't have an original Monte Carlo Corgi Mini from 1968-72:

And it's unlikely I will even need to try and get one now.  Bonus  !

Surely that just explains how the Corgi 339 came to be. I'm intrigued how the repros are being designed

And an oddball - Kees Saab 9000

20210609_165426

This one's faster, because it's red

20210609_165526

So oddball, it's a new one on me...

Will you sell/swap the blue one?  After all.. it is the slow one 🙂

I prefer the blue myself actually but I don't need two. Red one can be any colour you like after a repaint 😁

What happened to all the old tooling? Chucked in a skip I’d guess?

Probably, as it was after all at Swansea, in 1983.  I remember how barren the city and docks were back then, as we used to visit family on Gower

Apparently some tooling went to a China but pretty likely only current sets. Tired tooling would be just skipped for its weight?  There was probably a few metal recyclers bothering the receivers for it all

Would you be opposed to it getting Lancia Thema or Fiat Croma badging though?

None at all, you can badge it up as a Morris Minor if you want.

Well some spit polish and autoglym later and their sparkling! Sadly* the musty smell has gone too!

They really are lovely castings - 3 cheers to @Datsuncog  for rescuing them. Obviously I have no idea what to do with them, but hey ho 😂

Congrats on the clean-up - you've done a great job on those pair of grotty horrors!

I bought a Bburago 1:24 Rally prepped Rangie recently. Detail is pretty impressive - I especially like the funky tilting seats and split tailgate!

This one just arrived in a taxi.

When I was nosing at the £10 boot sale one, it looked like the white stripe was a plastic sticker, so could be reproduced? Either that or I paint it white with a red stripe for a bit of fun.

It'll probably just stay as it is though.

Here are a couple of leftovers from yesterday's big box, both Zylmex. I haven't seen the Merc before, I have got an X1/9 but it looks great in lilac

I bought one a while back.  It's good enough

I must have been bored a week or two ago, things keep arriving. Despite being possibly the ugliest toy car of all time, I felt I needed the red Lone Star E Type

20210610_16305920210610_163109

I must also have a little bit of madness, because I think with a re-think of the wheels and stance, it could actually look quite good

And there's more. Spotted a donor for my distorted wheelarch Pullman Mercedes

20210610_163146.thumb.jpg.737119cc2c1dc138c619a8b75cdae7d2.jpg20210610_163153.thumb.jpg.38934cc88c2f5cfcdefab915ee3b00f8.jpg

Getting it required buying a job lot. Mercury has cracked pillars, a fairly common problem

20210610_163519.thumb.jpg.999101d5f4b78ccfe43248cc4e7f192b.jpg

I've had one of these before, can't remember if it sold on here or eBay

I took this to be an early Matchbox but it isn't - any guesses?

Blimey, Lone Star made some great stuff but something went horribly wrong there - it looks like it's had an allergic reaction and puffed up. The Leyland cattle truck is a Budgie I think.

The blue one is still strangely proportioned, no idea why they decided to jack it up and fit wheels off a truck

Some decent sized wheelarches would help but it's still a pretty hopeless replica. Had they ever actually seen an E-type before designing that or is it based on a child's drawing?
