You're welcome, always happy to trigger someone's hoarding! That looks great in that colour scheme too. Happy birthday for next month, I hope your fortieth is as enjoyable as mine was.

It was to follow the count of engine rebuilds required on the real car.

Probably*

WHO DID IT WORSE?

The Ferrari F40 in 1:39 scale

On the left > Matchbox Specials ;  on the right > Maisto

The Matchbox has chunky wheels that are too big.  Or would it be the Maisto has wheels that are too small.  Either way, only Maisto has cast wheels and separate rubbery tyres.

IMG_3596.thumb.JPG.2c42b06c952d0358b5f6a6bbb463b4a4.JPG

Only the Maisto has opening things.  Only the Maisto has a pull-back motor to help it clout the skirting boards.

IMG_3608.thumb.JPG.e88f6061897eeefc391961e594dbaf0a.JPG

Both took a  stab at showing-off the engine through slatted glazing.  Matchbox forgot to detail it so you probably didn't notice

IMG_3611.thumb.JPG.fde7002f6a305e38b4c726221093dac7.JPG

The Matchbox is so fast, it seems the badge has moved.  The Maisto can't quite cut the air quite as well with those leading edge casting flaws

IMG_3610.thumb.JPG.cfc55a963e7744b78a1a3adf69260671.JPG

Once again Maisto makes a better effort in the detailing of the arse.

IMG_3609.thumb.JPG.76ce36a759c24be75000e6849e21fa3b.JPG

Both Matchbox and Maisto reckoned they managed a scale of 1:39.  Almost there too, as both measure to 1:40 in length and width.

IMG_3612.thumb.JPG.60b729019019ff2c0590cde4ffc4b861.JPG

The length and width might be identical - but wheelbases are off....

IMG_3598.thumb.JPG.cd472eafc51c331d23b8b1bb0d37dc0a.JPG

...and by some length too - Matchbox at scale 1:58 and Maisto at 1:56.  Hmmm... I'm not sure I believe that, so the source for the actual car wheelbase statistic must be off as well.  I  must try harder and sorry for wasting your time.

Cheers mate. To be honest, I've been 40 since I was about 12, everybody says so, so I shouldn't find it too tricky to adjust.

Christ.

It's incredible how much shonkier Maisto's output got as the scale reduced. To the extent that, while the Matchbox is way off in both proportions and detail, to the point that it looks like a replica based on a Peugeot 406 Coupe, I still find it a more appealing item than the Maisto.

I may have just bankrupted myself at Home Bargains, looks like beans on toast until the end of the month

I've wanted to get my hands on this ever since I saw a preview of it, even has my initials on the bonnet

GT40

20210326_111731

New colour for the Syclone, not quite as good as straight black

20210326_111701

A modern, but very retro

20210326_111632

Can't help but thing the MX5 would look better without the picnic table

20210326_111536

Scooby recolour is a very dark blue, not black as I thought

20210326_111409

Pontiac is Holden by another name IIRC

20210326_111117

This one's quite pleasing, as there's a hardtop in the same colours from a few years ago

20210326_111053

Bit of JDM stuff

20210326_11094020210326_110829

This one's very sought-after, although the Mattel games tie-in is a bit strange. Anyone heard of Guster?

It was, for two years only as it was a poor seller.  All built at the same Holden plant

The model looks too short, or perhaps too tall?

There was no such 'Super Duty' model in the range.  Bit of a play by Mattel on the big-block engine option that was trialled in the 1970s I guess

What is going on there!

It also sent the Fandom page tampo description column into a pickle.

Quote

'WORLDWIDE' & 'Optimism' on sides, 'Change', 'Perpetual Childhood', 'RS', below Hot Wheels logo, 'Conifer 2019' under him, 'DC', 'Genuine Certified Authentic' around these symbols & OC/RS 5126 on the sides on the hood; 'Perpetual Childhood', 'Conifer Commission Logistics', 5126 'RACE SERVICE' 5126 on trunk

Usually the description would be quite short

That's the appeal to me, was buying Street Machine etc from age 10 so always been influenced by muscle cars, hot rods and customs. At least they have Matchbox making mostly stock vehicles to balance things out

There's a slightly moist package on my doorstep! What lurks within? A small job lot, that's what.

Main target was this boxed Impy Corvette Stingray

From here

https://orangetrackdiecast.com/2021/03/18/worldwide-optimism-67-camaro-by-hot-wheels-x-race-service-x-ornamental-conifer/

This release of the long-time collector-favorite, #’67 Camaro is the latest in a partnership with Rod Chong (@rev_sect on Instagram) whose previous projects netted Hot Wheels vehicles from Speedhunters, Project Cars 2, Roborace, among others. As part of his cross-media creative agency named, Race Service, Rod brought in British artist, Nicolai Sclater who is known as Ornamental Conifer (@ornamentalconifer on IG) who hand-painted the Hot Wheels 1:1 ’67 Camaro in his own style. Phrases like “Worldwide Optimism” and “Perpetual Childhood” extend the length of the body, while “Hope” and “Change” are seen throughout the design with logos for Race Service and Ornamental Confier as well. One of the more uniquely placed messages is on the back of the car’s rear spoiler where “ABCDEFGHIJKLMNEVERGROWUPQRSTUVWXYZ” makes you pull a double-take. And, of course, today’s announcement of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour resuming on April 15 makes you wonder if this car will be at events when the in-person shows resume at Walmarts nationwide.

Yaaaay, glad it all showed up for you, finally!

Apologies for the delay, haven't been out and about much this last wee while.

Can confirm that the Nikko aerials are indeed mucho boingy.

A real pity that the Kojak Regal has a busted front screen, as it's otherwise quite decent - and the intact bubble lamp is a nice bonus. Will keep a look out for any scratters with reasonable glazing that may turn up.

Had a helluva week with work, so giving myself a quick Friday break with a Wispa and a freshly opened package from the Jumajo box...

Post to accept the screwed base visible through the back window is often a bother with diecast estate cars; not the worst thing ever, mind.

Base detail is satisfactory, too. Spare wheel is quite well done and all.

I remember these knocking around when I was a kid, and was amazed at how huge they were - not just long, but enormously tall at the back.

Probably haven't seen one on the road since 1991 or so, but now I can see one every day.

Happy Friday, cats and kittens!

That's lush!

I can see screws....  which means you can take it apart and black-out the blue bit behind the tailgate glazing....

Then you can enjoy the Wispa just that little bit more smugly.

Posted

Hah, I actually did take it apart for that very reason - but annoyingly the glazing is heat-melted into place, and I was concerned I'd end up making a mess of the back screen if I tried going at it with a marker.

But! A small dab of black electrical tape might slide into place - I was going to go and guddle for some in the shed, but then it started snowing?!

Ah well - will carry out some improvements, never fear!
