Restoration update.  First, repeat showings of some "Before" pics...

2145063507_Camdump8007.thumb.jpg.66bd538d56ece2c7b8abbf877b8fd7d8.jpg

Not sure what's happened to the Rover, but the other four will appear shortly.

387771866_Camdump9002.thumb.jpg.7b4a507862d3dca048f25755e060e1b8.jpg

Morris Oxford, VW Beetle and fire engine coming up.

996480479_Camdump12004.thumb.jpg.5f28bd76a8d9c1aa860a524d1db80ee3.jpg

Jags, Renault and one Land Rover will follow.

234540681_Camdump13002.thumb.jpg.3f1a0165a9c79764d4a6d0e181ee51be.jpg

Rover P4 and 59 Chevy.

OK, it's time to see how they turned out.  So far I'm only shooting those I can regard as "finished."  These pics will include one or two you didn't see above, but you can take my word, they were every bit as awful as the ones you can see.   Let's have a look...

253390159_Rims026.thumb.jpg.6f141c278f48c372419e9ecd86bd0ce0.jpg

Land Rover and fire engine, among others...

1834632120_Rims027.thumb.jpg.6c736b8b69a756aa84690145becad1c9.jpg

The same 59 Chevy, and friends...

1981274423_Rims028.thumb.jpg.c6609dec22116573a07caea2cab447d5.jpg

Back row first, L-R: Oxford, Jag, Jag; Zephyr, Riley and Vitesse.

492054522_Rims029.thumb.jpg.dd459a6c76fe54acda5e91d9179e24b2.jpg

And finally Volvo P1800, VW Beetle, Renault Dauphine.

Some could have turned out slightly better but on the whole I'm pleased.  They're certainly less painful to look at than they were before I started!

Seriously though, all these people being at home or not working when these auctions are ending is making prices higher. I wanted to win a Pilen R16 yesterday and it sold for £91. It nearly doubled in price in the final minute!

(I appreciate it was a Sunday evening)

They look great! Ones that era could get over-restored and end up too shiny anyway.

Aha I see you've swept-up Eddy's Jeep collection!

If you do 'hot rod' the Cord, don't forget it's FWD ⚠️

[ Post Lady deliveries of May so far include.... ]

Hot Wheels.  Job lot.

Except Hot Heep (Model T Rod) which I was saddled with after bidding on whole load on same seller, but lost out on them all.  Except Heap.  And it's missing its seats too.

COWBOY COLIN really liked the 'Grave Rave' coffin car named Rigor Motor.  Well, he would.

Personally I prefer (and didn't expect to, until fondled in the flesh) the 1997 Supermodified, a sort of track sprint car with the V8 engine hanging on the inside.  HSE would have a right go, today.

What is the vaguely Tatra-esque car on the left?

It's a Crooze Ooz Coupe, looks like the McDonald's one

In which case it should do this

Very vaguely, as its sports what look like dragway slick tyres of probably 400mm width!

It's why I grabbed* the cheap lot, as I could see it had a battery compartment underneath ...and was intrigued.  It's apparently an 'exclusive to McDonalds' and named Crooze Ooz Coupe.   I assumed that meant it was all-plastic but, no it has a diecast body.  It takes two lithium cells to light up the ground at all four corners with a bit of optics.  Not changed the cells yet.

You've given me an idea though.  It should get repainted in honour of Mr Ledwinka.

* not quite true.  I bid and won it but was really only after others by same seller and loathe paying postage on one item ..... and I was beaten in every auction in the final snipey seconds!

GAHHHH  Just looked and saw posted answer before me - I wrote all that out and cleaned it for photos too ?

This thread is too fast for me!

It's quite a beast!  Looks ideal for a Halloween scene once the lights are working.

I'll see if it works tomorrow.  I would expect it powers little diode rather than bulb, as there is no way in to change it.   But of course it is a mass-produced obese child's toy made for a few cents.... in a sweatshop in China

You can buy packs of the batteries from Poundland, you may have to carefully cut the battery compartment though as they're fitted for life. I had to resolder a few of my McDonald's ones too

Yes I have cards and cards of cells but didn't anticipate having to cut the poor things out....  recycling shocker.

I've not been to a McDonalds for years (and even then under duress probably!), so have a bit of catching-up to........   UH-OH!  Here we go, the slippery slope to collecting McDonalds exclusive lightables is on the horizon!!!   "Run away...."

The '41 Willys, with the plastic base and 'Master of the Universe' 'Ramman' (who?) decoration is McDonalds as well then I assume?  But it doesn't say so on base this time.

Oh those jesters - look what they've put underneath - a little stand, so you can lift the rear while you run the motor while pouring in the fuel by the barrel.  How considerate!  I also assume this is a Pro-Modified series car if in real life

This deserves a repaint in a nice shiny bright colour!

Crikey, I remember Ram-Man; my brother had the action figure. One of He-Man's mates.

I can only assume this wholly irrelevant tie-in with Hot Wheels was for some sort of franchise thing from McD's, possibly the unwise 2002 Masters of the Universe reboot?

Wasn't aware that the planet of Eternia went in much for Pro Mod racing; I might have had more interest in those sort of cartoons if I'd known...
