Lovely paint!

Cheers, certainly worth taking photos in the sun. It's Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green over a yellow base.

My daughter dislikes that colour intensely. We recently caught the end of a Wheeler Dealers episode where they painted a 1960s Cadillac in a similar colour, she was appalled.

Now that better weather is here I want to get a few bodyshells painted. They'll keep me going through the autumn and winter and I have loads of Tamiya rattle cans to use. Might have to stock up on other materials online though, I doubt the local model shops will be open for a while.

The Yatming and Zylmex are actually pretty good as cheap cars go, The Matchbox has opening doors and suspension but again the Siku is my favourite. Ze Germans really knew what they were doing here, this era even have specs underneath

I like that the Hot Wheels, unknown and Zylmex made the spoiler open underneath, but the Matchbox is easily the best here

The Whizzwheels is probably the rarest, Kintoy and Motormax probably the most accurate, but the Hot Wheels party trick wins it for me.

Seen a prototype of the Matchbox Racing Mini which has doorlines and hinges moulded in, but they were removed before production

Cortina/Taunus, represented by Matchbox and Mira

The Mira is a lot rarer, heavy and they've tried to get all the details right - but it just doesn't look like a Cortina

No - one thing this is showing me is the stuff I don't have. Could have sworn I had a Majorette Sierra to compare to the Corgis, but no. Not even a Matchbox XR4i

Posted

The Majorette Sierras headlamps are a bit rubbish, Corgi definitely did them better.

The champagne-coloured Corgi Sierra I recently got with its box is a really nice thing. Especially as it doesn't have the towbar:

Makes for a nice companion to their 1:36 version.

Ah well, that's probably because it's supposed to be a Taunus....          ?

There was also a Shuco in small scale too I think

I don't have either the old or the new Matchbox versions, best of this lot is the Corgi. This one is a Growler, and has a separate engine casting in plastic, not cast in like the one I repainted recently

Finally, some French flavour in the form of Renault Fourgonettes, Mira and Majorette

While I'm being pedantic and annoying ? .....

Have you noticed that our Yat Mings have the base plate brand name stamped with the typeface lettering slightly off?  My OCD kicked-in years ago when I saw the letters all aligned at the top of the cap-height together.  Apart from that, the Y is not capitalised.  Arghhhh.

s-l1600-2.jpg

But I have now calmed-down as I have found out after all that we shouldn't be calling the brand Yatming, because it is Yat Ming; two words.  Yat being the the number 'one' in Cantonese and Ming from name of Hong Kong founder Wai Ming Lam.   So now the mis-set letter 't' in yatming can be excused as I can now read is as two separate words.  Phew.

/ as you were ?

Yatming! For some reason thought it was Maisto

Hopefully Tat Friday/boot sales/charity shops will return and one will find its way to you

I hope so, it seems the Riddler car is rare and expensive to buy if you want one (I looked earlier) !   They were only available in 1995 as part of a 5-pack for the Batman Forever film tie and never sold as a single; as far as I can determine.  So don't paint over yours, whatever you do!  Oh... ah... sorry ?

Kenner (Hasbro) released the set, contracting Yat Ming for production (assumed)

il-794x-N-1346673342-26wh.jpg il-794x-N-1393951807-scpo.jpg batman-forever-set-of-5-die-cast-vehicle

I'm not sure why it was included as a fifties Buick wasn't in the film used by the Riddler character.  However, the Two-Face 'goon' character cars did both use Buick Roadmasters with the 1950 tall-tooth grille; which does match the Yat Ming car styling year.  The 1946 Dodge W-Series armoured truck model was also a good likeness of the vehicle used in the film.

dc-batman-schumachertwo-facegooncars.jpg i016884.jpg i016885.jpg

Yat Ming originally released their 1/66-ish 1950 Buick in both convertible and raised soft-top versions, as part of their 'Road Tough' brand in the American Dreams range.  Notice (as noted earlier) the later release (in pink, below) having added door quarter lights

20190427-150637-1024x1024.jpg

wqe.jpg20200413-091625831-i-OS.jpg

Ever wondered why there is no rear seat and it is covered over with a blanking 'plate'?  That's likely due to it being a direct down-scale of their earlier 1/43-ish model for their Classic Runners range, which housed a friction motor

s-l1600-1.jpg il-794x-N-2128543459-bvrf.jpg

Sorry for taking up your time.
