My majorette. Some matchbox and husky. I really like majorette but they are quite expensive.

What are the Renault 5 and Ford Escort Mk1 to the right of the Hot Wheels Rolls Royce?

Doesn't look like the Majorette Renault 5

The silver one is majorette.

The gold essy and R5 are polistil.

Yes I have the Majorette and know the bonnet air intake is plastic, so couldn't place it without.

Polistil R5 and escort. I gave a pound each - they sell for north of £30 mint boxed - I bought some boxed ones for a fiver each some years ago but at current prices I wont be adding to them.

That metallic red was one of Polistils generic colours at the time. It survived the transition from hard cases to card boxes.

Local Tesco and Morrisons visited to see what they had. Only the latter had anything that seemed to be new/worthwhile, some new MBX laying direct on the shelf at £1.80 each. I got the '95 Nissan truck in Cycle Runner livery. No new HWs in either of them for some time.

Tesco did have what might have been a new selection of 5-packs at £9 each, including the tempting wagons and also the German cars with brown Mercedes estate.

Might have a chance to get to a different store tomorrow.

BTW, what's with the FedEx stickers on the new Matchbox packs? Didn't realise until I got home they're just stickers on both the front and rear of the card. They were on everything, not related to a livery on the diecast itself.

So today, while working* I spent 5hrs driving to two auction houses in Chippenham and Worcester, to pick up a few* models I won  bought at auction.

The highlight was this.

20230213_193352.thumb.jpg.6dc6ad8b30b68d905cd8117a8c6ae65b.jpg

A Sunstar 1/24 Routemaster.

A coke bottle for scale.

20230213_193110.thumb.jpg.4fbb08861c402136fc944df0c4e34497.jpg

No idea why I purchased this, as I don't collect them. I think I just wanted one to pass through my hands, so I could tick the box.

A lot like a large number of real life motors I've had.

Weirdly Mrs Cookie really likes it and has started saying a shelf needs to be put up, so it can be displayed.

It can't get onto ebay fast enough, to save me from DIY :)

I wondered why they decided on CYCLE

20230211_144429.jpg

rather than DESERT on the real thing

Nissan built 1000 of them to commemorate success on Baja 1000 for 1998.

There is no cycling on the Baja 1000.  Fighting the sand would do your knees in.

Yes.  That.  To make yesterdays trip out not seem so worthless, had to choose between BROWN Mercedes W123 pack or this pack with the blue 'woody' Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

The Woody Won.

So while the sun was out at lunchtime, a Yatming FORD LTD popped over for the unboxing

Do have a white Olds Vista somewhere in one of the oh-why-did-I-buy-that boxes of unopened packs.  Perhaps that can go to part-fund this blue one

Was only produced during four year period from 1968.  Superfast wheel was 1970-71.  Cant have sold that well?  There doesn't seem to be that many survivors, compared to others

Replaced by No.25 Mod Tractor, no less.  Which survive everywhere!

Just looked around then realised I'D STILL LEFT THE 5-PACK OUTSIDE ON THE GARDEN TABLE

Brought them in and wiped-off the condensation.  Doh.  Pretty lucky the massive local Magpies didn't swop them away.  Or peck at them.

So, the rest of the 5-pack wanted to get in on the action

The mod tractor is a personal favourite - one I did have! I still have a boxed example.

I remember buying a loose pre superfast cortina - sure it was metallic copper.

Yes it was.  Though in some lights they can have a bit of a bit of a pink tinge when faded

The Cortina Mk2 is a charming thing, maybe one of the nicest crossovers? I prefer it in Superfast guise. I was lucky to get mine back in the '90s when they could be purchased for not too much, it would have been one of the few I was prepared to pay more than a tenner for MIB. Why didn't I buy more?.....

I don't think I had one in my own toybox as a youngster, but there was one with squashed pillars at my grandparents'.

Nowadays has extra significance to me as a 2dr Mk2 was one of the first cars my parents would have had as family transport, probably the car I that brought me home from hospital, but of course I didn't know that back then.

Ford Cortina Mk2

This very one, it was maroon. Perhaps one day I should buy a tat box example and paint it up to match.

Some recent stupid drunken purchases discoveries

L>R: Husky Commer Walk-Thru, Hot Wheels Python, Lone Star Tuf-Tots Dodge Dart ('67), Majorette Mercedes 350 SL (R107), Matchbox Mercedes 230 SL (W113)

£2 Commer, missing front axle.  But I had an idea* to upgrade both axles to the metal wheels instead:

IMG_20230122_235626.thumb.jpg.a2cba6278ee68f6df11fcda7d520cd26.jpg

£7 Python, bid keen on this perhaps too high and bit myself, like a real python.  Still, a 1968 one-year-only 'Sweet Sixteen' for under a tenner is becoming a rarity?  Especially with a reasonable amount of its Spectraflame Red paint left.

The others were around £3 each, because, never had before.  Of course it's the postage that kills, so some came from same sellers so - ahem - spreading the distress

Was up in Loughborough at the weekend. Precisely zero smaller diecasts in the charity shops (just the odd 1:18-1:24 of uninteresing subjects) Did find a few in a couple of antique/retro shops, but they were priced rather higher than tat box rates. That being said, now slightly regretting not making an offer on a Superfast wide-wheel Mercury estate, the civilian version with a sticker on the bonnet that I'm sure was on here a few pages back.

Should have had one of those magic apps that DC's acquaintance accused him of using.....

Did spend a bit of time on this however, which Miss SL had picked up on a previous charity shop visit:
