Didn't Peter Sellers have a wicker Mini in one of the early Pink Panther films?  Hmm, LHD conversion shouldn't be difficult on those...

Peter Sellers wicker Mini at Goodwood 2009. This left hand drive version was used in the Shot in the Dark film.

I had the 1/18 Majorette model in that scheme. Looked fantastic, really underrated model, long gone now though in the great purge of 2014.

I've been trying to go through all the Datsuncog/Danthecapriman arrivals but some may have to wait for another day. While photographing them, an order from Modelmatic arrived

These arrived via eBay

I'd not got the DeTomaso at all, and both are unusual in having a Specific Krazee Wheels base and the name on a sticker - my other ones use the regular base and text, just with larger wheels

I was in Smyths today and they had the Premium Hotwheels Rover P6. I really wanted it but its £9. NINE POUNDS.

I ruminated for several minutes but in the end I left it. That's just too much for a Hotwheels.

Do they normally release these as a mainline with a plastic base and wheels?

Sometimes, further down the line. Not guaranteed though. Have a look on eBay then run back to Smyths...

I won't be paying £9 for a 1/64 diecast nor anything above that on ebay. That just isn't value for money in my opinion.

Totally my thinking too.  It's just RONG.  As for the ebay scalpers, they can just FRO.

Posted

These selling them on eBay must actually be losing money in real terms. Most seem to be £16, so £9 off for purchase, £3.50 off for postage, £1.60 off for fees. Profit is not even two quid. Deduct your time and diesel off that and it doesn’t take Theo Paphitis to realise you aren’t going to be making the FTSE 100 anytime soon. 😂

Posted

Yes I think they're taking the piss.  It was lovely but no. I have my Corgi example, that will do. I'd actually prefer a Golden Jacks one with a spare tyre on the boot lid.

I agree, I’d much sooner spend the £9 on a ratty original one at a swapmeet or whatever. That’s another situation I cannot see where the margin is, I get that some will do it as a hobby but the margin must be hardly anything if you were doing it for a living. I don’t think I’ll give up the day job!

Posted

They absolutely ARE taking the piss.  BUT enough idiots will always buy from them to encourage them to keep doing it.  And for those of us with more sense than money, none of the above is any consolation.  The prices will stay high and we will have to scour the boot sales ever harder to pick up the usual crumbs.

Posted

I only buy from here now. Technically a good percentage is actually from St George's Market but the £5 buses are really tip-top for the money.

There's a rather good seller on the south coast too here, not to mention one up north somewhere... ;)

What you could have had for £9 today! OK I had to pay to get in a model railway show, and put my tightest fitting bobble hat on to get in 😉

From the £1 files, DBS Rocket, Husky split and well loved Barracuda:

From the £3 files a Corgi Firebird (which is obviously missing a door card) but a widescreen and Molotov chrome pen later should look dandy:

I reckon it's worth another pic to show it in its full glory:

Very much 'of its era'.

👌

Not quite the same but it reminds me of this one in a similarly 80s-tastic colour scheme that infamously got stuck blocking the entrance road at Showbus in 2015.

Going through the large box of cars sent by DTCM, a couple stand out. This oddity

These are larger, make unknown cars. The pickup is a pretty well made piece with opening bits. Cartoonesque BMW looks as though it should drive on two wheels like the ???? cars that were discussed on here ages ago - but doesn't. Absolutely no idea why the 911 has a combination lock arrangement on the side

I’m still mystified as to wtf that yellow Porsche is all about! I did wonder if the sticker on the base was the code for the combination lock but it didn’t seem to do anything when I tried? But even if it did… what would it do!?

That pickup has scrubbed up pretty well!
