Shite in Miniature II

2 additions to Felly's fleet of small shite, clearly Vanguards castings minus the quality control. The Granada had flash on the inside of the rear wheels, and the front screw cover missing, the Scrote didn't have the front indicators printed on, and a rear suspension issue, spring wire wasn't in correctly, and a Sharpie was used to do the indicator, they were cheap though.

It's not often that Santa brings me diecast these days, so this was a nice surprise.

Quality control not too bad on it, either.

That Oxford 760 doesn't look awful. I'd like to see them do a 700 series estate so I don't have to be on the lookout for one of those Polistil ones or whatever.

So, as of yesterday, I am now in possession of a 3D printer. Time to start making models! ... do you think it’ll connect up to my Acorn Electron?

Yeah, that's my main gripe with Oxford 1/43 - just not quite as finely done as Vanguards, particularly with regard to lights and wipers, plus some paint issues (I really wanted a honey starmist example, but the paintwork was shocking on all examples at a local stockist - and puts me off sourcing online). The proportions aren't too bad on the Firenza though, and their Volvo Amazon is fairly decent also. This one will be displayed side-on in a cabinet, so the clunky lights shouldn't bug me too much. The huge goggly lights on their recent Bedford HA van should never have got through the prototyping stage like that, though...

I'd love to know what the hell happened with the HA.  It's probably the simplest motor vehicle in the world, at at one time probably the most common van on UK roads because all the big fleets had them, so how do you cock it up so badly?

When I was 11 I went over to that French France on a school trip.   Back then travelling abroad was done properly.   You got on a boat, watched Blighty disappear over the horizon and lurched about on a grey sea for a period of time that felt like two weeks of Double Maths.   Eventually, another land-mass came into view, you got off the boat and straight into a world of yellow headlamps and unintelligible language where nothing was ever cooked through.

Instead of familiar Woolworth and Co-Op shops there was a thing called Prix-Unic.   We shuffled past one of these "magasins" on an organised walking tour of Cherbourg when I spotted a display of Solido cars.   We had no time to browse or buy but I did grab a catalogue (think I may have been supposed to pay for it....sorry M.Hulot) which I still have...

I amused myself by translating various model features on the ferry back home but was particularly taken with the little blue Alpine....

What size/scale is it?

Did you buy the input?

Are there any Rover R8 available (Rover 200 1991-97)?

I didn’t do it to any scale and it’s just a download on the internet which you can get and print for free. I have now printed a Citroen 2CV and am in the process of printing a Renault 4, both in OO Scale or 1:76 - but I never knew the 4 was smaller than the 2CV!

Have to say Im very impressed with the results of the 3d print. The propostions are spot on. A bit of sanding and paint and that will look lovely.

Being able to print a model of literally ANY car, if I had the means to do so, would certainly bend my mind for a good while.

Thank you very much. And the cost of it is around 20p! (Plus the cost of a 3D printer and your electricity bill!)

I love stories like this only because I can relate to them. The Alpine is a super looking thing. I habe a 1/25 Polistil version in the same colour, lovely model.

I lusted after a 1/50 scale Corgi Revopak bin lorry in my local toy shop in the early 1980s. It was, other than having an orange cab rather than blue, an exact replica of the ones the local Council used. Mum said it was too dear though. Years later I managed to buy a tatty ine at a toy fair with some pocket money but it wasnt until 2008 that I was able to buy a mint one!

I have one of those.  I repainted the cab yellow to match those our local council used in the early 80s... and which I rode in as a binman!

OO scale Renault 4? WANT! Closest I'm going to get to an R6 in that scale I reckon.

It finished about half an hour ago and took just under 2 hours. I need to remove the structural supports and possibly a bit of rough sanding before I’ll take a picture - but that’s my first job of tomorrow morning!

Wasn't expecting this til next week. Brazil partwork mk4 Fiesta 1.4.

Herpa do a 1:87 example, Ive had one for decades, very nice it is too.

It is available as a Whitebox from Modelcar.de in navy blue, the place I got mine from seem to have sold out. I think the Minichamps 3 door looks clunky and not quite right. this has the blurb on a card in the box that it's a 1.4 16v 90PS, which is what our old diamond white one was, was pretty nippy, and handled well, and was nice and comfy being a Ghia

Re the 3D printed models, I'd love a Mk2 Metro L in light metallic blue at some point, and an MG Maestro in black :)

If I had a scanner and some models I’d make you one... but I don’t... perhaps there’s a model that I could download online

Ah well, here’s my 2CV after a small mishap with a headlamp (airfix glue fixes all). The rear wings haven’t suffered well and have holes in them... but that just makes them look like they’ve rusted through - and how Autoshite is that!

Brilliant stuff. I suppose you can modify them too, to make them precisely like your own 1/1 example e.g. year specific features etc.

Of course, being OO scale it’s a miracle it’s in this detail
