I'm also regularly mistaken for one of those veggie types. I think I'd best bring the camper as the Austin is having oil pressure issues and I need to leave Ms C something she can drive. I may need a jump start on Sunday though

Is there a trophy for best camper? :D

Sadly -think I have to bottle. Health isnt good enough, I'm afraid. Have a good 'un.

Everything is in place forbying the Volvo deciding it doesn't want to play any more - 600 miles covered so far and it seems pretty happy though!

KruJoe - thanks for the offer but the plan is to head down at about 2am or sorts (from the pub) on Saturday morning and take a slow plod down. My mate is coming for moral support and hopefully something to spur him on to fix his C-reg K10 Micra and L-reg Scrote convertable so it'd be rude to take over your house :)

Caravan isn't happening either, so will bring a tent and go old school...

Anyone between Brighton and Witshire fancy meeting up on the way?

Not sleeping in the back, like I'm doing with The Volvo, then?

I will be. My mate says my 745 smells of arses and therefore he will sleep in the tent.

More room for me, I'm used to a double bed...

Sorry to hear that Nigel, though I guess it saves you having to decide which of your many, many vehicles to bring!

Weather forecast looks better for the Sunday, so I think I'll tent it. And bring the Mk1 BX. Both can hopefully dry off before the journey home if we get the forecast showers on Saturday.

That's fine if your happy on the go all night - give us a shout if you change your mind... maybe you'll be glad of it on the way home...

See you there then!

I plan to remove all the seats but my own from the BX, first to fit Phil's bumper inside, then to give me space to stretch out on my bed. My bed involves some planks of wood from the glove-box to the tailgate, supported by axle stands in the foot-well, and topped off with the airbed I found today. :) Sounds good in theory - we'll see how it comes together!

Can you tell I don't fancy the idea of a tent?

Hello everyone! Sorry I disappeared- I was away from the forum as I'd been busy with the Greek elections (having stood as an MP candidate) and then never got round to reading/replying to all the stuff I missed! However, I'm very much still around and I promise/threaten to get posting soon. :P

I'd like to officially confirm my attendance. I'm coming over with a mate who doesn't drink and will be staying till lateish but not overnight- he'll do the driving as I'll be pissed.

I'm off to paypal to sort the financial bit out then I'll come back here to read about the practicalities.

EDITED TO ADD: I've just seen that we can pay at the gate. Hope that my delay in confirming attendance won't create much of a problem for Beta. I'd been trying to convince said mate to join me. :)

Hello Luxo! A few of us had wondered what had become of you. Tell us the election story then ...

Posted

^

You have indeed been conspicuous by your absence. Do you now hold high office in Greece? :D

Posted

I never had any hopes of getting elected, however we were hoping that the party (centrist/liberalish) would manage to break the 3% threshold required to get into the parliament (with a national vote of 2.99% you get 0 seats in parliament, with 3.01% you get 8 seats!) and probably get ourselves into a coalition government (in which case I guess I would have had a very, very slim chance of being offered the post of Deputy Undersecretary of Ouzo and Calamari). We only got 1.8% which is ridiculous- especially when you consider that the stalinist Communist Party of Greece got 5%, neo-nazi thugs Golden Dawn got 7%, and another 10% went to a right-wing lunatic whose electoral platform was centred around the chemtrails conspiracy theory and the assertion that Greece is some sort of hydrocarbon paradise (he claims that a quarter of GLOBAL natural gas reserves are in Greece).

However, the election result could have been much worse. The Coalition of the Radical Left (whose role model is Hugo Chavez!) shot up from 4% to 26% and were only narrowly beaten by the conservatives who then managed to form a government with some leftover social democrats. Had the Radical Left won the election, Greece would have probably been out of the Euro by now (although we are still far from safe).

I guess this situation will at least give me some more time to move a few more assets out of that shithole.

There have been some developments car-wise, but nothing too spectacular. I shall be telling you about them on Saturday over beer- the highlight is a small claims lawsuit which I am lovingly preparing for my local friendly ebay non-paying bidder.

Sounds like it's going to be a right old laugh, can't wait to see the pictures.

Good to see you back luxo.

I hope your election campaign material containeda picture of a large Euro being hammered over a smaller Euro?

Well, a day to go, so time for an update.

We are still all systems go this end - the field isn't looking too bad, so I'm not expecting it to be a quagmire, or for anyone to get even slightly stuck!

Food bought, drink bought, the loos have arrived, tressel tables delivered, so today just the entrance banners to finish, gas to get for BBQs and my cars to move out of various garages so that there are comfortable "out of the weather" areas for all!

So, if you haven;t confirmed your attendance but would still like to come along, no problem - just send me a PM and I will send you address details.

To everyone who has confirmed, hope you all have a really safe and pleasant journey doen to "sunny" Wiltshire.

Regards

Andy

ps - two requests.

1. if you have any folding chairs, please could you bring them, and 2. I forgot to get name badges sorted!! So if you could each knock up a name badge with your AS username and your real name, I think that will be great for putting faces to names!

Posted

BX is pretty much packed and checked. I've even re-fitted the yellow headlamp bulb caps especially for this event!

Posted

So far I've managed to find almost all of my tent, plus my airbed, pump and sleeping bag, so looking good so far. Beer is bought, the sat nav is in the Rover ready to go, camera batteries are charged, and I'm halfway through clearing all the crap out of the boot so I can fit camping gear plus Renault 6 bits in, so hopefully I should be able to hit the road in reasonable time tomorrow - AA reckons just over 5 hours, not counting the stop off in Kettering, although obviously being in the Rover I might be able to shave a bit off that if the traffic isn't too bad.

Posted

I'd love to come to this but as Mrs P is working all weekend, I have the infant to look after. Hope you all have a GR9786 time :D

Posted

I'm almost ready. The Volvo has a new battery and I've managed to amass most of what I'll need over the weekend. All I need to do now is go to Millets to buy a new rain mac and pop to Tesco after work tomorrow morning (I will be driving straight to Wiltshire in the morning after a 12 hour night shift. I hope to get some sleep somewhere along the way) in order to buy beer, etc. 8)

I'm really looking forward to Shitefest, as it will be nice to be around like-minded people for once, and of course put faces to names and cars :D

Been lurking on the forum for a while, thought I'd better sign up

please count me in for this, sound's like it's going to be a good weekend.

I'll be traveling over from Farnborough, Hants this evening to give Andy a hand setting up.

Now a 90 mile drive in Andy's fantastic 1979 S2 Beta Berlina :D

see you tomorrow

Welcome Tony!

BetaBoy, pm incoming shortly.

I'll include my mobile number so I can be called in to aid a fellow shiter in distress if required. I'll be coming down the M6, then M5, M4 route I think.

I've found two fold-up chars and three stools, if I can fit them all in, there'll be some spares.

I was gonna go through the thread and make a Chumley-style list of names and motors, but if we're having name badges, I won't bother. I know it might be a cheesy idea, but may I suggest we go along with it? It's always better when you know who you're talking to, without having to ask everyone and remember first time.

What's the plan for breakfast?

Posted

I'm going to bring a roll of masking tape and a pen. A quick and dirty way to make name badges!

Posted

Nice one Ian! Be prepared to have a trundle around the field / down the lane in a BX14, I'd like an expert opinion on front suspension noises. :D

Posted

Righty-ho. If we get a few more people to follow us, we can pretend it's a shite cavalcade - just like a proper classic car show. Who's going to do the commentary?

Posted

I have prepared for this by checking the oil (well, not yet), the coolant (still to relocate from work), replacing the wiper blades on the front and replacing the plug on the offside front sidelight which had come adrift from the light. I have also purchased a black ice tiny tree or whatever the fuck Magic Tree are calling themselves these days as well a family sized bucket of hopetofuckitmakesit solution. I will not be washing the Volvo before heading down as it looks better if you can't see it properly, nor have I fixed the windscreen washers as I forgot until I went to check the screenwash.

My mate is apparantly organising a tent, I'll check if he has any folding chairs, and I have a bottle of whisky and a bottle of gin for the bar pile.

Masking tape and black markers seems a GR8945678946 idea for name badges, and I fully expect a woefully poorly lit group photo for the front page of the 2013 calendar.

This is going to be ever so slightly awesome...

The Cortinas back home!!! Yay! Now to start cleaning it and getting it packed.

Plus i also have thought of a great game, It's called "Fitting a Accuspark electric ignition to a crappy old Cortina", It involves me standing there whilst watching someone else who has 1/2 a clue about this kind of thing fitting it, and someone will need to bring a timing light too. Sounds like fun, yes?.

Sadly, although Tony was coming from Farnborough in my lobely 79 Beta 2000ES saloon, Douglas, the said Beta, has decided to throw a hissy fit in Tesco's car aprk and decided that only first gear will do tonight! SO, mates, trailers etc, Tony is now on his way in his Corrado G60 and Douglas the Beta is in disgrace!

Sunday breakfast..... well the difficulty is that I have no idea how many I'm careting for, so HOPEFULLY I have bought a big enough catering pack of bacon for bacon rolls all round, but if some of you decide to sleep in for too long, you will go hungry!
