^ Now that is the sex, buy it and get Pete to drive it back for you, Win!

How the hell do I get my one back if I'm driving two?

This can only mean one thing....

I haven't got a job at the moment.

Buy it and I'll drive it home for you. My throttle control is sublime.

As nice as that escort looks, its more a museum piece than something I could use. I don't even have anywhere undercover to keep it. It is a pity, because it flippin' gorgeous.

No, I think I want something bigger, smoother, quieter. Has anyone had an experience of early GS300s?

This one looks well kept...

nah! you don't want one of those... you want something more along the lines of a nice red 2001 mondeo bought from this very parish (hint hint)

Belfast ain't far. It's about six miles from here by road....

... and a few hours sitting on a ferry.

Righto. Got some insurance quotes.

The 730i, Ive just been quoted £8254 and some odd pence. Hmm, abit dear me thinks.

The Blue GS300 came back at £4414.02, still abit salty for me.

The 960 LWB, if I join the VOC, would be £281.

A '87 760GLE came back at £174.74.

So, Im off for a drive about today to see if I come across anything of interest.

I'd have had that 960 over that thing any day of the week.

The 960 is a Q car if ever there was one - they handle well for a big vehicle and you can get mid 30s on a run - better on fuel than the HPT 940 Sport I had. £495 was a flippin bargain - there's not a hell of a lot wrong that can happen to them

960 LWB - bargain

There's a little part of me quietly hoping that LWB comes up for sale again when I'm in Barrow... :D I do like it rather too much!

If you're gonna go for a 760 try and get an IRS one, the live axle ones are nowhere near as good.

I think the IRS jobs were 88-90, but could be wrong. Also, check the transmission fluid and coolant carefully as the box oil cooler is in the main radiator and they rust through for fun. Engine survives but the auto boxes don't like being flushed with coolant. Tends to make the box die rather quickly.

Also, the 2.3 turbo is better than the 2.85 V6

Concerning the "VOLVO 960 v6 AUTO LONG"; what engine do they have? I thought that the last V6 was the 88-91 760 GLE. Is it the same PRV engine?

As far as I can tell from the photos it's a six-in-line, so not the PRV.

After a pretty unsuccessful day driving around trying to find cars for sale and failing to get in contact with the owner of a 960 in York, Ive broadened my search further.

There is still a couple of Golfs that Im interested in, but there is this little beauty as well.

I am being rather eclectic with my choices aren't I?

That's an Autoshite Winner, right there! Since I won't be buying it, I can add that the price would seem to be a good deal too.

Well, Ive bought something, namely this.

Its very clean, goes like the proverbial clappers, sounds glorious, and seems to be pretty reasonable on juice too.

Admittedly, there are some niggles but it strikes me as a whole heap of car for £750 (its was listed at£950 but I chucked him a cheeky low offer that he accepted).

I'll grab some pictures of my own tomorrow.

Looks tidy enough, doesn't it? Best of luck!

You'd have been better off with an Alfa 145 :D

Seriously, though, looks like a decent one, that. Well bought at that money, I reckon.

However, if it turns out to be a turd, SPORTY_TOWERS is on your way home. Call in and buy Italian :D:D:D

A nice Mk2 GTi is a nice car. I've ran a few and kept two for longer than the norm.

Last one was an 8v which I fitted the Mk3 GTi 2.0 AGG bottom end to, kept the PB 1.8 8v head and injection system and left everything else standard. Made it a very nice driving car, loads of torque from low down all the time. It was better on fuel as a 2.0 as well, I didn't expect that, but it makes sense really as instead of dropping down a couple of gears to over take, or dropping to fourth on uphill climbs the thing just lugged happily away in fifth. It would make deceptively quick progress whilst being nicely laid back to drive.

If I ever have another Mk2 GTi I'll do the same thing again.
