Chassis built in Brazil. could be a 12 litre or an 8 litre, depends on the emissions spec.

DOOVLA says 11.6 and change

Sweet. Nice sounding engine, that. Sounds "purposeful". Willenhall Commercials in, erm, Willenhall has got a metric shitonne of those engines out of a load of 0405Ns they've taken from National Express WM,

There's a rather nice Prisma currently visiting Harrogate Coach Travel atm, as the firm owner Craig 'Leyland' Temple posted on flikr earlier. He's a mad bastard is Craig, and a genuine top bloke, and has quite a few 'toys' in his collection, including the infamous Leeds Jumbo that was rescued from Halifax a fair whilr back

Thinking of purposeful sounding engines, this is back out and heading to Portsmouth:

Perkins V8 FTW!

During the summer, I'm hoping to get my sorry arse back up to Yorkshire for a bit, and help my mate the Wookiee work on his collection of heaps, and rejoin Dudsbry Bus shed, and hopefully get behind the wheel of the bus I saved from an uncertain future, even though the puddingheads have painted it in 1950's livery. A Nat 2 does not look right like that

COMPETITION TIME!!

What's this? Is it REALLY a 12 litre twin turbo?

Tis a Merc OC500 with an MCV Evolution body, new to Carousel Buses in High Wycombe. I know that cos I was the PSV Circle sub-editor who reported it new along with its sisters.

Posted

Didn't Carousel have an Iveco/Renault Irisbus Agoraline at one point?

Better than that, they had three of them. All sold very quickly after Go-Ahead took them over.

Kingsley's, I know that firm, a mate bought a Metrobus from them

I drove along just as the heavy haulage was dragging the bus, away all the back end was burnt out. The police and the council work men were repairing the road.

As a side note one of the lads i work with is the step son of  Kingsley's,i'll ask him tonight.

I used to drive those Striders in service, some were brilliant, and others were utterly gutless and had a nasty habit of liking the side of the road. That's Halton Moor just before Neville Hill, so the bus was either on a 91 or 88

Junior GNR in Newcastle on last Sat. Lots of 'quaint' jollies laid on for the masses....

There was a oldi single dekker, front door, ironrailings rad - albion/dennis sort of thing.

Red and white with 'adensfield' in the dest box.

Would have papped but lights cycled b4 I could juggle phone :(

'Tis an ECW bodied Bristol L with a 5 pot Gardner and about 75bhp. Interestingly* ECW refused to body 6 pot Gardner Bristol Ls because they weren't prepared to alter the body.

FPB7 shall soil his pants at said twin charged cummins

Those Lothian Olympians were a nightmare to drive slowly with the super sensitive throttle pedals.

That was it! The bay lengths! I knew there was something different bout the first one.

Pretty sure they were all 690 powered then.

What's the score on the open tops?

I seem to remember a few years back that all First companies were obliged to send all their used buses for scrap.  Was I wrong, or has it changed, or is this example of the open toppers and exception?  They've lasted well if they are just coming off now, that's for sure.

Popped out to do a wee airport transfer in Melbourne 15 years ago but by the time I got there the airline had shut.

Giles Fearnley, the new gaffer at First bus division scrapped that rule, I know of one operator that's had a fair few Wright bodied Scanias and Volvo Olympians for further use from First Leeds, Huddersfield, Norwich and Essex. There are quite a few escapees now, but knowing how First treat their buses, I wouldn't touch em with a bargepole

My Olympian is ex Stagecoach and in all fairness, isn't the worst. Isn't exactly the best either but seeing as I didn't have first pickings I can't complain. Also being a school bus for years meant it wasn't exactly top priority.

Anyone got a spare £3500 for a gearbox overhaul?
