And if you want to find Carina E's, come to Ipswich, there are loads of em, including estates!

There are at least 2 Paseos that I see in Grimsby on a fairly recent basis. :D

Haven't seen a Freelander 1 for a while now...

I was sat behind one in traffic earlier today. Haven't seen another for a while though.

Mk1 Clios also seem to be getting rapidly rarer.

That was the one that immediately came to mind for me

Has this been mentioned yet?

Not enough of those sold in the first place to be "disappearing fast".

The How Many Left figures make for grim reading in my quest for a Phase 1 V6. Single figures :(

Mark 1 Lagunas are becoming a rarity. However any that do come up seemed to be priced the same if not higher than early Laguna IIs. Says it all really.

Please forgive if it has been mentioned already.

I find the first generation Twingos are now getting thin on the ground.

See one of these Twingos regularly around the north side of Ipswich. Not many made it to these shores I don't think tbh

The amount of Astra Fs seems to have dropped off the cliff recently. Not been to Seacroft for a while to see what the latest choice of council wagon is.

Phase 1 Safranes, yep down to under 10 of the top of the range V6 RXE.

Safrane Bi turbo wasn,t actually sold in the U.K but i know of at least 2 over here.

What about Datsun Miseries, aka Nissan Serena people carriers? Not seen one in donkeys!

Hey Safrane lovers, Perkins Engines in peterborough own a Q-reg one thats fitted with a prototype twin-turbo V6 diesel they were trying to sell to a car manufacturer in the early 90's. Apparently its engine management has gone on the blink and the system is so old that no-one there has the necessary program to get it going again so its just sitting gathering moss.

Insp Williams said: "It would appear that the thieves were after the trailer and did not really want the car."

So, spend a million quid developing an engine, fit it to a Safrane and when it gets nicked they only wanted the trailer it was sitting on.

Having owned a Safrane, I can understand this.

:lol::lol:

Seeing "Safrane" and "supercar" in the same sentence is just bizarre. Would love to know who at Perkins decided a Safrane was the car they'd stick this engine in... I bet the voice synthesiser had plenty to say about it.

Tell me more about the Safrane

I have a spare bag of sand to buy that, just what the wife would like!

Posted

Thats harsh, but hey if i know where it is then i,am happy, sounds interesting maybe we can go halves!

Posted

Yeh it was a tad harsh... I'm just frustrated that I haven't owned a Safrane V6 yet. I'll settle for a twin turbo diesel!

Posted

Its a Phase 1 aswell,as the article is 1995,would like motre info/pics at least just for my anorak Safrane fetish.

Soz gang, I'm fairly certain they won't sell it, the best i can offer is that i'll try to get a phone number for someone in their heritage museum thing who might at least be able to let you go up and have a look if you want.

They put this engine in a Safrane just because they were fairly hopeful that Renault might be a good customer for it, they took it to France to let renner evaluate it and it was on the way back that it got nicked. They reckon you needed a passenger sat in with a laptop just to get it started, hence why the pikeys just gave up on it and robbed the trailer. Think they built a Discovery with the same engine in as well but thats long gone. Obv nowt became of the engine in the end, Perkins was taken over by Caterpillar who are not really interested in the car biz, and Renault went on to develop their ow world-beating* range of diesels that we all know and love on here.

I thought I'd bring this thread back from the dead to see how accurate our predictions were. Bob on in many cases!

Anyone fancy a punt at what'll be gone from our roads in 2021?

Posted

Amusing to see that Billy's hatred of the Ford Ka hasn't diminished over the last four and a half years :-D

2021 will see the roads almost entirely free of generation 1 Picasso.  They're everywhere at the moment, like slugs round a post-barbecue forgotten beer.

K11 Micra - just about extinct

Any Rover - rare as rocking horse shit

Astra G, Vectra C - gone

Been trying to think what else there's lots of up here in various stages of decay so here's some more predictions.  Rust waits for no man and pensioners don't live forever.

Ford Ka (gen 1)

Corsa B

Peugeot 106

Citroen Saxo

Hyundai Getz

Suzuki Alto
