Black_GT's Shite Spots

Hello Autoshiters, I've enjoyed reading this forum for a few months now, thought it was time to stop "lurking" and start posting...

I'll start off with:

my car when it was clean and polished...

6159016248_de1201e4c9_z.jpg

and a more recent one after I replaced one and repaired one of the dented and rotten front wings and the missing sideskirts.

Parents' Rover - the car I grew up with, they've owned it from new in 1991! The bumpers have since been given a good coating of linseed oil.

Hey, a Pacer and a 504 in your first spotted update? I predict big things for this young man!

Welcome...

Posted

Greetings, are you based around St. Albans way? Pretty sure that's the Pacer I've seen driving around there a few times, and the 504 pickup looks like the one I saw trailering a 404 saloon through the high street a few years ago. 8)

Welcome along here, got anymore pics of your parents Rover? Quite into these pre-facelift Rover 200s.

Salutations!

Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome along. Tat rover looks pretty sweet. Is it yours now or does it still belong to your parents?

That first Pacer shot looks like it could've been taken 25 years ago. Period houses, n'all.

Welcome. :D

Great spots. I love the Granada Ghia. 8)

Thanks, yeah the Granada's great, seen it a few times was glad to finally get a photo of it. Looks reasonably solid apart from the rear arches which are a delightful mix of rust, wob and touch up paint!

Bang on Sir, I'm based in London now but those pictures are from near St Albans.

Few more pics of the Rover for Lord Sterling. It's still in pretty good condition, had some minor surface rust tidied up recently, and the bodywork comes up a treat with a bit of linseed oil and T-Cut. Definitely prefer the pre-facelift version of these cars, so much cleaner at the front. It's not mine, still Mutha_GT's daily driver and long may it continue to be :D.

Thats one great looking car B_GT, a 216 in GSi spec, very nice! Years before I passed my test, a mate of mine used to have a Red/Grey 216 GSi with GTi lattice (cross-spoke) alloys, it looked really good, certainly a car I admired and aspired to own. It looked exactly the same as this:

216rear3qtr.jpg

Unfortunately I've not had the chance to owned one yet as I had the chance to indulge into my real enthusiasm for Rover 800s. Now I own 3 Rover Sterlings :|

Thanks for putting the pictures up, and may the 216GSi long continue to be good faithful transport for your Mum! :D

Thanks, tbh I've only started to really appreciate what a good looking car it is in the last few years, as numbers of R8s have decreased. Used to be such a common car! Niiice 3 Rover Sterlings, bet they keep you busy... great looking cars though - don't suppose you have any pictures of them?

Now's a good time to get an R8  , must be one the cheapest cars to buy at the moment.

I'm trying to convince one of my fleet that it is indeed a car and its job is to transport me. It doesnt seem to get the message and just keeps on breaking down, this is the 2nd time and each time it wont start again. I've had it taxed, insured and MOTd for 3 months now and have managed to use it for 2 full days.

You can see photos of my current collection in this post I made a some months back. The one I'm trying to use is the last pic in my post.

OMG Pacer.

A mate of mine had a 216 GSi. He loved it. Got rear ended by a police car and written off.

Now I know what mine would look like if I got my arse into gear and painted/fitted the new rear spoiler that's been sat in the garage for the last year or so...

Ah yes the rear spoiler, my parents' car was without it for a good few months until my dad finally got round to Aralditing it back on. Boiled linseed oil on the exterior plastic works wonders for these cars too - I even tried it on the faded B-pillar vinyl, and to my amazement it worked on that too!

Slightly tatty Westfalia

Pair of old VW buses, the orange one looked like it had a recent (but not especially brilliant) respray - neither had any visible rust.

And my favourite...

Shabby old Mk1 Escort, full of filler, wing mirror held on with self tappers and wob, fantastic! This photo really demonstrates how narrow they are compared to modern cars - despite being miles from the kerb, it's still well within the white lines.

Bugger me, that's Culmington Road in Ealing. My mother's family lived about 100 yards away until the early 80s so I spent half my childhood there. Funnily enough it was full of VW campers then as well - in the 1970s they were very cheap things that Aussies and Kiwis lived in.

Happy days. My aunt ran Avengers then Renault 14s; the neighbours had a Rover 90 they swapped for a Fiat 132; over the road had a Morgan 4/4. Last time I drove down there it was mostly A4s, 3-series and Range Rover Sports like every where else in west London, obviously.

That Range Rover Classic has been breathed on by Overfinch, it's probably got a 5.7 Chevy V8 under the bonnet.

Ah that's interesting, I'd noticed the bonnet was different but didn't realise the significance. Overfinch were apparently a lot more tasteful in the 80s compared to the monstrosities they produce now - although to be fair they had a far more tasteful base product back then too!

Yep it certainly is - as you say it is mainly those now, although I've seen a lot of interesting cars too - maybe just because there's such a concentration of cars around here... I'd love to be able to see it in the 70s :D

Thanks - makes me grin every time I see it, sat among the Porsche Cayennes, Range Rover Sports and various other Chelsea tractors!

Fairly subtle though, it's quite a sleeper. Agree about the bonnet badge, but there can't be many cars sporting both Rover and Bentley badges :D
