Wasn't this sold on ebay very recently?

Does look very very familiar.

I recognise a couple of the photos.

Do all Solara's have rev counters on the dash?

Posted

As I said last time round, this has been spending considerably more time on ebay than on the road.

No, this is the GLS model top of the range or there abouts. I was inerested in a GL a few months back, that had a clock where the rev counter is.

I would seriously love this but already have my next car lined up, plus don't have the space, spare cash etc, etc :( !

I'll take a rain check on that one - gawd knows what it will be like underneath and a Lothian winter isn't needed for a car like this...mind you interior looks neat

You were considering this when my nice, freshly MOT'd 39,000 mile Rapier(with rev counter!) was for sale at the same money!!??

What , do I stink or summat? :|

He's got a feedback rating of 237, surely he must have grasped that the first photo you upload is the one they use for a thumbnail?

boobydoo -

I had decided to buy your one but Mr T Claim beat me to it!

This car seems to be doing a tour of Scotland. At this rate, it'll be in London in time for the Olympics.

I am quite tempted..rumour has it bodywork ain't that bad. He has it on gumtree as well.

Gls....top of the range and it could make a nice rolling project.... miss driving a rare car since the yugo went

I would have to off the 306 though and that car is growing on me.

Ok, help me out here....

Very tempted by this Solara until I can talk Warren T into selling me boobydoos old GL. Being the only one on the road is interesting as well...sinking my arse into crushed velour appeals...

Problem is I can't afford to run 4 cars...I have the celica turning up soon and will have to off the 306 if I do.

The 306 is s rare 5 door td...needs some fettling but is mechanically very solid and has just had new constables, brakes, timing belt etc. MOT up in October will need a new front nearside tyre for that. It is fun to drive and has proved reliable and economical to date.

The Solara...well I have no experience of these and this one looks mechanically ok but will need more looking after than the 306.

Given that I need a reliable daily that isn't going to guzzle fuel would I be a fool to change the 306 for the Solara?

Bear in mind I do have a good condition celica turnin up.

Are the solaras good cars?

Apologies for the inane question but I genuinely value your opinions.

It'll be easier to find another 306 TD...

As this is for a car you are planning to seriously depend on, I voted for the 306. You don't want to get immobilised by needing to replace an otherwise simple part (e.g. broken headlamp) that takes months to turn up on ebay or anywhere else for that matter.

I would have a Solara, just not that one.

I bought something like this thinking "how bad can it be?" The answer is VERY BAD!

Run away, now!

better(ish) photos in the May auction shown the deftly-handled repairwork.

LOL quality workmanship there...

Almost bought an Alpine back in 1986, thankfully a Mitsubishi Mirage 1250 came up and I bought that instead - the electric windows on the Alpine almost clinched the deal for me!!! :o

Off the 306, Solara or no. Sort the roof with cream vinyl for some raymanboy colourscheme stance, whack a hammer and socket in the toolkit and you're ready for anything.

Posted

Keep the 306!

Posted

It depends if you need a car that actually works. If the answer is no then buy the Solero else keep the 306.

Give this Solara a miss, I reckon you're gonna overlaod yourself with shite and give yourself a headache.

Plus Boobydoo's old Talbot is now owned by Wuvvum so you'll have difficulty persuading WTC to sell it to you.

Lol....confusing my W s...

Voices of reason. Thanks everyone very helpful .... sleeping on it you are absolutely right. I would be overloading with shite when reliability with at least one car is critical. Got to also remember I'm still far from 100% healthwise.

Still would like one but breaking my own rules vs tools and toys. A solara like that is definitely a toy and it would be folly to get rid of a critical tool.

Autoshite Anonymous support group saves another shitters from self shite inplosion!

Dazzled by the 'Gls' and the proximity of the shite....thank god I don't live in Sarfend...this would be a daily trial.....hell for me will be an endless eBay search of cars under 400 quid...and all of them just out of reach...

Posted

Personally I would buy it for a weekend/leisure car but not for any kind of daily commute!

I have successfully ran a Renault 14 for the last thirteen months and 8,000km with little trouble so rarity need not be a stumbling block!

Posted

The chances are it will need bodywork/welding soon and will struggle to last a Lothian winter without needing a full rebuild come spring.

But I voted for it anyway, get out the rustproofing wax, learn to weld and you're onto a winner!

I'm just up the road from it,so could do a driveway MOT for ya. Good excuse for me to meet the guy as he used to have an X1/9.. lived 2 miles from me and I never saw it.. believe he might be the guy who also bought my Fiero, which again was never seen again..
