Ever wondered where all the Citroens went?

Well. Been a while since I posted (my threads tend to bore the board to death!), but having just completed a 600 mile round trip in our new (rusty, battered) transit (yes I know it should have been the Mazda, but E166 is currently mothballed!!) to beautiful South Wales and back, I had no option but to share what I found!

First up is an awesome Saab V4 (?) which was taking in the splendour of Rhossili. Anyone on here own it? If so, WELL impressed!

We then put many miles in exploring the peninsula, and then on the final night stayed on an ace farm, where I got talking to the farmer about some dusty tail lights I saw peeking out of a barn. He told me to go on in and have a look around.....

*DEEP BREATH*

Phew. Sorry about the quality of the shots etc, and I guess some need turning. I couldn't really properly explore as I didn't want to piss the farmer off.

Apparently some guy's been renting the space for 10 years. They all drove in, and now they're rotting very badly. Seems a massive waste!

Did you spot the 3 (2 under tarp) Sunbeams as well?

'kin hell!

Anyways, on the way back I spotted these (rather pedestrian by comparison) two daily drivers. AND what looked like Volksy's green Master camper. Were you in Wales Mr Volks? I need your mobile number by the way - lost all my numbers recently.

That, I'm afraid, is that!

Hellos to you all after my recent abscence and laziness!

Blimey!! What a barn. Wonder what the story is there? Though given how valuable French classics are, that's probably about £2.64's worth.

Class, cheers for sharing. I wonder if the Citroens belong to one of the BX gang, I think his username is Admcit or something like that?

Well - I really wanted to wax lyrical about the farm where we stayed (really really amazing), but even the slightest detail would have given away where it is, and I know how easy it is to bring a world of shit down on good people with such posts....

Was so much fun having a rummage in a dusty car filled barn. I was doing that at 10, and at 37 it's still the most fun. History you've discovered yourself!!

A6 TVA I have seen on the road (on the M55) - did a DooVLAy check oand it comes up as still on the road and taxed :?

O MY Flipping lid!

As a certified Citroën loon, I am aghast at that! I spied: early days GS Pallas, High spec. XM V6 SEi or SED judging by the alloys, CX Gti, but more thrilling, an early days CX GTi, can't tell by the pic but it could be a Turbo1 tho probably not as it has chrome bits instead of the matt balck bits. Xantia Activa? judging by the 'cherished' plate.. I'd take the GS personally.. What a find overall - is that a Renault Alpine too? Great hoarde but I still feel it's a bit of a waste as these could be getting proper preservation with individual owners - a farm is tha last place for old cars due to all the acidic crap in the run off on farms..

What an incredible waste...the perpertrator(s) of this must be brought to the Hague for a swift trial for crimes against humanity.

Someone mentioned andmcit. I'm 95% sure these are his. Serial Citroen hoarder, this is one of many barns I would say. Well known on the french car forum. Never sells anything so don't even thing about claiming anything :D:D:D

Possibly a tad generous there, Ian! In which case, I'll take the red GTi Turbo...

FINE THEN. I'll take the (allegedly) 'restored' welded and good to go Alpine under the tarp. Sail past you whilst you moan about orbs, weigh it in 2 miles later (in a cloud of steam) for £6.59, buy a bottle of bucky and then regret this post. Like I am now. OK. Drunk. Laptop off. G'night chaps - have a good night anorak dudes.....

A friend just pointed me in the direction of this thread as he knows I'm a bit of a Citroen Anorak  . As you can see I'm new to this forum so I'll have to do an intro sooner or later about the Citroens. I suppose it was sooner or later that I was going to join up. I recognise a few familiar faces already - Ian, Luke, Greame.

As mentioned above by Luke these would appear to be Andmcit's Citroen's from the FCF - it didn't twig at first but I distinctively remember a picture of the black Xantia Activa with that oh so great numberplate.

Interesting to see pictures of the cars and also the CXs too...

Ah, nice to see you Franklin. Now, you'd better get some pics of your 'shockingly awful' Visa up on here! It is classic Autoshite after all.

As I'm not allowed to talk about these mad Citroens, have a picture of nutter Gary Busey instead

I just saw that CX-rated video....what is 'duck oil'? Are French machines partial to a bit of foie gras? 8)

Hi Franklin, good to see you on here :D

An introduction with plenty of pictures is required I think!

Welcome along, plenty of Citroen fans in here!

R9UKE, if it's the same fella (ADMCIT) he bought an XM off me yonks back and said even then he was building something of a collection of them.

Welcome, Citroening. :D Great video. I think big red cars look cool. 8)

I have a thing for DSs and CXs myself. I even had my own CX-related dream while I was still asleep this morning.

yep, that's Andy's shed. (or one of them - as I know he likes SD1s as well)

Yep, it's definitely his! No doubt your XM has been mothballed in the same way...

I'll give him his due, he's an absolute whizz with the things. The one I had had been partly raped bya a taxi driver who wanted some bits off it and it was right on it's arse and not running. Within nano seconds he'd jacked it up, stuck some blocks of wood in various places and winched it onto his trailer.

Very nice bloke too, I think he said his dad had had one the same colour and he wanted to restore it. I'm still impressed with how many toys these things have and the electrically adjustable glove box thing between the seats was the icing on the cake.

The guy is a proper Citroen guru, but I just think it's ridiculous to take on more cars than you have time for. There's some nice cars in that barn that could be being given the time and attention that they deserve, instead of rotting into nothing! Fair play to the guy though, it's some collection!! I heard a while back that one of his many yards were broken into and many Citroens were either vandalised or stolen.

The XM is some car, a friend of mine has 4, but they're not good enough to tempt me out of the Renaults :)

I have registered to express my great dismay at this thread.

To ramble blithely through the private assets of an unknowing third party is not considerate. To further amplify that by popping a bunch of quite identifiable photos up for all and sundry to view, is extremely poor form. It's an affront again, to the polite and gentle - if somewhat withdrawn - nature of these vehicles' owner.

Were he conducting his affairs in a public place, the photographs and critical commentary might be fair game - however, a tenancy is effectively private space within which our fellow is free to do as he wants without any expectation of being trespassed upon or held up for public criticism over invisible matters.

I urge the OP to seek out the owner of these vehicles and apologise.

Vehicle Status SORN Not Due

It's an affront to store cars like this.

I urge the OP to seek out the owner of these vehicles and shake him until he sees sense

fixed.

I did read the thread carefully, Tayne.

Perhaps my wording (re: identification) could have been better in respect of meaning that the cars were readily identifiable as the assets of a particular person to those who were - generally speaking - Citroën enthusiasts. There could be a number of reasons why the cars have languished; surely anyone would agree it 's likely this has been unintentional.

Also, I do agree that the lessor deserves a serve - however there was something of a hint in the original post, about not wanting to aggravate the farmer with excessive nosiness. Further to that, the post was made after the poster had attained knowledge of the vehicles being those of a third party. Perhaps the pictures could have been culled somewhat with the balance made up in evocative descriptions?

As to apologising - I stand by this remark. It's disappointing to (generally) observe that contrition is in short supply. Yes, I am a cranky bugger at times, but neither snide nor vindictive. I would be genuinely happy to point the OP at another forum where contact may be made.

Cheers, Adam.

Do you think he might have some BX Estate tailgate hinges? Or is it wrong to ask? Not for me, I hasten to add.

Posted

Tailgate hinges for a BX break? If so, only by accident! His interests seem to barely touch the BX's.

Your man might do well trying the usual BX and FCF sources; something will turn up at a sane price. Citroën have purged all their old parts with a vengeance. :x
