Check the heater controls, the one I had didn't send hot air to the footwells. These are decent, no-nonsense motors but not as good at carrying bulky items as you may imagine due to the rear suspension turrets - this wouldn't take a chest of drawers that fitted into a Metro (and allowed the tailgate to close on said Metro), for example.

2,200 Euros?

So about twice what it must actually be worth then?

Not THAT rare, certainly not quick. Loads of dosh too. Obviously depending on the deal, but I'd think twice.

I mean, nothing wrong with the old bus, but it's a bit magnolia/vanilla (delete as preferred).

I didn't realise Irish prices were as insane as Cyprus...

You must REALLY want rid of the R18...

Don't do it.

I have had one of those Passats and could not wait to shift it on - there was nothing wrong with the car itself. BUT they are very bland - not that quick - not that good on fuel - not expensive - You must be mad to think of a deal at that price. Dont do it you will regret it - trust me.

In the clearer light of day I would be mad...I do want to sell the 18, but only to get something different and yes it will be another Renault. Would love a 25 V6 or a 19 Convertible but will have to see what turns up. You couldnt sell a model car over here never mind a real one at the moment.

Maybe it's because the prices are a bit high? Perhaps it would make sense to take a hit in nominal terms on the 18, and import something from the UK or France.

I suppose that one of the reasons we ask so much for Classics(under 30yrs) over here is that the majority of them are imported. When we import a car we have to pay VRT(Vehicle Registration Tax). In the case of the 18 Turbo it was €720 .When a car reaches 30 years its €50 flat rate. So the owners try to recoup some of the cost of this when it comes to sell. As for me, I know that I will not find more old Renaultshite over here that I will have to import again, but without recouping I would not be able to import again. And also the cost of getting it home would be in the region of €500 , so it costs €1200 approx before I've even bought a car,,,even if I've only paid €50 quid for it. 30yr old Renaults are very scarce anyway so thats not really an option.

I wouldn't have paid that much for a Passat estate ten years ago, let alone today.

You'll still find plenty of them in France.

If I thought that I could get a Renault 6,12 or 20/30 home from France/ UK ,or wherever in as good a condition as my 18 for less than I am asking, then I would gladly drop my price or even swop, but I think thats not going to happen .

A Passat, for a R18T? Don't be daft.
