Small 4x4

The wonders of a 0% for 12 months credit card thingumy bob means £1500 has been luzzed at my current account... Its burning a hole in my pocket.... Smallish 4x4 seems the flavour of the day and the lovely hot summer is obviously the time to buy...

Only things that spring to mind are a:

Fiat Panda (new ones too £££, old ones to rusty)

Subaru Justy

Fronterra Sport

Landy SWB

Suzuki Jimny Cricket.

Cant think of anything else about the 12 foot in length mark.

Daihatsu Terios. Quite popular in these parts. No idea if they're any good.

These I like, but will overhang my available parking :?

Its French

Its 4x4

What can possibly go wrong

This I rather like - what can anyone tell me about them?

Ah, now this is obviously some new definition of small I was previously unaware of.....

Kia Sportage?

There is (or was) a very cheap (£695 with something like 10 months MOT and four months tax) Ssangyong Mussolini on eBay recently Ted and not that far from you either.

I'd imagine the down side to be parts supply might be a bit shitty though.

I'd say Terios is the best "mainstream" bet, but this is Autoshite, so why don't you try something more, erm, ...exciting?? Nothing can be more exciting in an AS way than the good ole Eastern bloc.

The same manufacturer has also built something a bit bigger.

66666 kilometres!

Or you can stick to the even more tried-and-tested Niva...In fact, there is one on Ebay UK at the moment

Can you find a Pajero Pinin / Pajero io for that sort of wedge? They're 145" long in 3 door flavour so only an inch over!

(Edit: it's called a Shogun Pinin in the UK isn't it? Well within budget on Autotrader)

What about a well preserved Fourtrak? The good ones are the remaining ones, and they are reliable, well capable, and shite, all in one!

My mate bought a Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7 V6 for £600! Engine is sweet as and she's a good contender for future shite.

Out of your bunch though it has to be a Frontera Sport. In some sort of vile Lime Green colour, with bull bars on the front and the spare wheel missing off the back :D

But why not be different and try and find one of these bad boys, saw one in Belfast last week.

Shogun Pinins are GR19.827. 1.8 or 2.0 GDi, 2 or 4 door. Airflow meters blow up, £40 off eBay. They are GR8 4 DRIFTIN in ice too. Well made.

This is the Perodua Kembara, aka Daihatsu Terios, aka Toyota Cami. Ideal, I would have thought: small size, 4x4, 1.3 litres and even, if you want, automatic! (As this rental one is; I've driven it, it's very smooth and relaxing, and has enough power on-road at least.)

We went to road test an HRV and somehow the salesman convinced my wife to have a go in the then new Terios, she had only passed her test a couple of months before and I felt sorry for the salesman when she tested it's handling to the limit on a nearby roundabout, thankfully it didn't have enough power to kill us...............

Jesus christ, that looks like something Ssangyong rejected for being too ugly.

:lol::lol::lol:

Nothing is as ugly as the Rodius!

The 1996-on Subaru Justy is a rebadged Suzuki Swift made in Hungary. They are quite good cars and permanent four wheel drive so very planted on the road. Rough arse engines, pretty much the same as the one used in the SJ I think.

What do you want a 4x4 for? They are not off roaders.

Anyway, I'd recommend a 1902 Spyker 4WD or a Hummer H1.

The HM Holiday Camp I work at is at teh end of a road which becomes impassable if it snows or is very icy. The gritters obviously fear to tread down there - last winter despite the S&M tyres on the car I had a lot of fun not getting stuck on some of the hilly bits, so this winter I want to make sure I can turn up to work and be smug.

This looks nicely beige

Oh dear, the Tata Safari inevitably appeared. Having driven one for all of 10 minutes, I can conclude that I'd rather spend a night with Vanessa Feltz than repeat the experience....

What about the Daihatsu Sportrak - £1500 is above the best, they've usually got a removeable hard top and are short.

Depends wot you want it for. If off road and runabout shiteraks are gr8 and underrated long distance horrible unless u have to cos of snow etc
