An Introduction - my shite so far...

It's about time I joined a forum that celebrates shite... I've owned plenty of it! Wouldn't have it any other way :D

I'm Luke, 19, from Belfast in NI. If it's got a Renault badge on it, I'll buy it... If it's got a V6 under the bonnet, I'll buy it. Used to work at a car auction - had first dips on all the shite through the gate... enjoy:

Started off with the Vel Satis - highly recommended shite, an excellent car: Had 3 in total.

Citroen C5. 3 of them, all 3.0 V6s, no HDi for me, far too good!

PICT5191.jpg

Bit of a soft spot for old Volvos. Had two 940s, a 740 and a 440

The Renault Laguna II. 2 1.6s, a 1.8 and this 3.0 V6 (cost £350)

A Grand Espace V6. Supremely shite. 12 MPG and the same figure to get to 60!

Citroen BX:

Without a doubt - the worst car I have ever driven.... the Daewoo Lanos.

Current shite consists of my Renault Avantime. A mad car in every way, no intention of ever selling it

And a 1989 Renault 25 V6 Injection which I rescued from the scrapheap. Given to me for free in the hope that I can breathe some life into the old girl. She's been sitting up for 8 years, but pretty solid. Work shall commence shortly.

I have quite a lengthy check list of shite I want to own at some point. Rover 800, Montego, Maestro, old Proton MPi, Citroen XM, Renault Safrane, Kia Magentis V6... to name a few.

Nice to be on board, any questions or comments on my shite most welcome!

Bloody hell!, That is impressive collection of shite for a 19 year old! I bet you got them all mega cheap though working at a auction house.

How have you found them all?, Had many problems or have you been lucky so far?.

Posted

Very cheap Trigger... the beauty of old French cars, nobody wants them!

Mainly electrical issues with the Renaults, turbo went on one of the Vel Satis', and the Lagunas can be hell if they choose to randomly go into limp home mode.

Oh and the Lanos blew up!!!

Avery strong french theme I see? All quirky and strange in their own way! Welcome............. :D

To borrow a phrase from the launch of the Simca 1307 in France in 1975....

"Bienvenue A Bord!" :)

This guy is going to give Wuvvum a run for his money in the "How Much Shite??//!?" stakes in years to come.

Posted

Crikey thats amazing for your age, I had only had one car by the time I turned 19!

Nice to see some love for the more modern Renault, definately future shite!

Posted

I suspect it's cheaper to buy a old Renault in Ireland then it is to buy a pint of Guinness.

Posted

"What about ye" from Carrickfergus. That's quite a collection! There's a Vel Satis like that near me driven by a mad old bugger at 9000 RPM everywhere.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys, seems a great bunch on here :D:D

I suspect it's cheaper to buy a old Renault in Ireland then it is to buy a pint of Guinness.

Indeed! £250 (or a weekend in Dublin) bought my second Vel Satis.

There's a Vel Satis like that near me driven by a mad old bugger at 9000 RPM everywhere.

I'll probably end up owning that at some point - get the reg number next time you see (or hear) it :)

My Avantime lived in Carrick for the last 6 years, you've probably seen it around.

One thing that frustrates me about NI is the lack of old BL tat. Maestros are non-existant, as are the old Hyacinth Bucket style Rover 200s. Trip across the pond for that kind of shite I'm afraid....

Posted

Bloody he'll what an ace CV for one so young, you're truly LIVIN TEH DREEM! Welcome along sir.

Posted

Brilliant. Perhaps the trick to owning French V6 shite successfully is to buy cheap and lob away when too much stuff goes wrong? Rather than my usual trick (for any motor really) which is buy shite, spend a fortune trying to make everything work, then sell for a loss in disgust.

Posted

Bloody Hell! When I was your age I was still wondering in which order I'd shag The Bangles, never mind having my own tat collection!

Posted

Does/did your Avantime have a very short reg number? If so, I have seen it.

Posted

Bloody Hell some class transport for someone so young and so much of it. How the hell did you insure the V6 motors at 19 and under?

Posted

Welcome along!

I love the Avantime. All the big-bum Renaults that followed should have had those rear lights. Superb.

The Saxo wheels look right at home on the BX, I always thought that combo looked good. Less keen on the smoked indicators, but otherwise it's ace! My current daily is a BX14, btw.

Oh, and I hope now that it's summer, the weeds aren't pushing their way through the floor of the poor old 25!

Posted

Welcome aboard. I too am majorly impressed by the amount of shite you've managed to own in your first couple of years' driving!

Posted

i Luke

Welcome to the site at last, its about time we had another V6 Renault owner

As for me Safrane V6 RXE,wife in a Laguna V6 executive,so is my dad, love the V6s and no-one wants them...

Find me a V6 Safrane and i will be over!!!

I'm surprised my french shite is so well received - I seem to be the butt of motoring jokes among my mates... living the dream though!

Yes Dollywobbler, that's the way to do it! All my french V6s have actually made me money, and have required little or no work. The Avantime chews ignition coils but it's my keeper so I don't mind throwing money at it...

KruJoe - I bought the BX with all those MODs already done, the indicators were awful. Worse were the rear headrests taken from another BX with a COMPLETELY different colour interior - pure shite! You may be right about the 25... I fear it may well be a lost case :( Worth a try though!

Ashmicro - Nope, it's a regular YCZ plate. But this means there may be another one lurking??? :P

25v6turbo - I applaud you. That is a mighty fine bunch of Renaults. The guy who gave me the 25 has 3 Laguna V6 Execs, and just bought that Laguna II V6 tourer off me... there's quite a few of us around :):)

A great forum, swimming in shite... I'm off to read my Volvo 340 brochure

Excellent selection of cars Luke. I had a Peugeot 504 Ti when I was 19 and a Renault 25 when I was 20, although they were two litre four pots.

I know what you mean about V6's , I'm getting increasingly keen on getting another Rover 75 V6 as a toy now that they are dirt cheap (although not as cheap as Renaults and Cits:D ). Have to be a Connoisseur with all the toys. I would be wary of a 800 with a KV6, they were a new engine in that body and very prone to HGF, the Honda V6 is a much better bet.

Posted

Cheers Anthony. Don't know much about 504s, but I'd love a 505 at some point. There was a GTi Auto on ebay about a month ago, but I'd just bought a C5 the day before I saw it.

Yep, one of the few benefits of these petrol prices is that V6s are worth next to nothing. It's the early 827 I'd be after, something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1990-ROVER-VITESS ... 500wt_1156

Would these be a Honda or Rover unit?

Posted

Honda. Bid away!

Posted

Gawd. I'll have to pretend I didn't see that. (actually, I'd want one in 'Tony Pond' red!)

Posted

:lol::lol:

It's watching episodes of Police Stop! that has me wanting one of these! Has to be the Fastback, the saloon looks shite.

Posted

Actually, I really like the saloon as a Sterling. But the Fastback looks best as a Vitesse.

Posted

The Rover 800 is the British Alfa Romeo 164. Phakt!

Posted

A Sterling Saloon. Only if your name is Clive and you enjoy birdwatching :D

I'd love a 164. Never ever seen one here, but there's a pretty sexy 3.0 V6 166 living up the street.

Posted

Welcome aboard Luke. I reckon you'll fit right in! Superb CV already (I love a big soft car with a big relaxed engine, although in recent years I've looked across the Atlantic for them rather than the Channel!).
