Monday morning - Spotted this CityRover about to meet its maker on the scrap heap.

I was so excited at spotting a Sierra, I forgot to zoom. (spot the irony in the foreground..)

DSCF3797.jpg

This was literally the most awesome thing I saw all week,.I actually stopped the car and found the camera so we could all share how utterly jaw-dropping it is.

DSCF3798.jpg

So much so, I took another photo.

DSCF3799.jpg

Un-molested No life Lived it already SWB landrover?

DSCF3802.jpg

I pass this on the way to work every day.

DSCF3810.jpg

Along with its slightly older brother.

I want to tell everyone that this has a Rover engine.

DSCF3804.jpg

Billlly!!!!!!!!!

DSCF3809.jpg

I reckon if they remade bread, the youngest Boswell brother would drive this.

Sneaky shot over the fence at all the "no, not for sale" cars. The Bullit metro lives here.

DSCF3808.jpg

I'll add more as I take them, there is a LOT of chod around here because we are all poor miserable northerners.

ive seen that sierra a few times, nice tidy car but odd choice of wheels

Kwal.

ShittyRover seems a bit new to be binned but maybe it has myriad problems and Jack Shit spares supply to keep it on the road. Piaggio Ape is mega, can't think of ever seeing one actualy being used or looking like it was. The last one I saw was used as an advertising display at a garden centre near Nantwich.

As for the other one of special interest? See my signature!

It's lost its front number plate; buying a replacement was probably beyond economic sense.

:P What a load of shite....fantastic spots, especially the 3 wheeler! 8)

amazingly theres still about 8000 of these shittyrovers still knocking about!!!! I didnt realise they managed to import (i didnt say sell) that many before going belly up. Looks like 2006/2007 were the golden years for these things with upwards of 8500 of them waiting their turn on eBay.

There's a 2006 CityRover on eBay right now for £1200 from a dealer. Twelve hundred quid for a five year old car, that's stupidly cheap.

There's also some insanely priced parts - £45 for a lower arm, £74 for a filler neck - you can see why they get fragged. Wait till it gets ten years old (which to us is still "new") and it'll be worth the sum of the petrol in the tank and the rent in the windscreen.

A good source of a low mileage TU engine, that's for certain. :D

A mate of mine converted his 205 XS to injection using the lump from a CityRover and bits from a 206. The engine had about 12k on the clock and it had been binned because the ShittyRoverTarra had failed its first MOT on 'excessive rust'.

Todays random collection of chod...

There are a lot of tiny villages around here - like 3 streets in the middle of nowhere because 100 years ago there was a pit and the locals were too stubborn to move agan when they shut it. Passing through one such shithole this morning I snapped this fine pair

DSCF3812.jpg

CF luton not annoying next door enough? Buy a fire engine.

Just out of the village is the field the scrapman forgot..

DSCF3813.jpg

These haven't moved in at least 20 years.

Supermarket car parks are always good, this was parked next to me in tescos

DSCF3814.jpg

Looks to be hanging on by a thread.. or owned by a committed tightarse.

Halfway down Sesame Street is Big Bird's house...

DSCF3815.jpg

"Get in your silly yellow car......"

And I thought I'd pop up the back lanes too. This street was the subject of a documentary in 1984, the "coooonsil" wanted to pull it down but the locals like a 2 up 2 down with an outside netty.

DSCF3818.jpg

Hey, you could buy this, tart it up and then take less money than it owes you....

and across the road

DSCF3819.jpg

Towing caravans since 1988...

One for the bus pervs - yes, this '85 atlantean is still doing the school run.

DSCF3820.jpg

Its old enough for me to have gone to school on!

Another supermarket... off to ASDA to see if I left my bank card there (I did, they have posted it back to the bank)

DSCF3816.jpg

Pogweasel pink - check

"national" numberplate logo for the wrong country - check

It's a Mk3 Golf - check

Obvious and tatty welding/underseal marks - check

It's perfect.

DSCF3816.jpg

Isn't it?

and speaking of the late Mr weasel....

DSCF3817.jpg

One former keeper, full service history....

Apologies for the repeat, but I think this deserves it...

That's the most satisfying image I've seen for a while... 8)

That Golf is a lot tidier than mine.

Why did you want to tell everyone the Accord has a Rover engine?

Posted

Just because of the amount of people who tell me their K/L series rover has a honda engine ;)

Posted

Because everyone says the mid-90's bubble shaped Rover 'has the Honda engine', (check ebay).

Some Hondas really do have Rover engines, the mid '90s L-series diesel Accords and Civics. Never advertised as such though.

It seems to be monsoon season here today, so here are a few more random spots.

DSCF3842.jpg

Yesterday, outside the scrapyard (in the same spot as the cityrover) was this little jem. I was worried at first that it was getting scrapped (scrapyard already has some rare datsuns mouldering in the side yard) but current tax and OMG_HUGE baby seat in the passenger side means that this is someone very committed to the cause scrounging for spares. A5 confirmed this by seeing it driving around durham.

DSCF3838.jpg

This is "bertie". I help to keep him alive. Bertie has the same engine as a mid '90s Honda Accord diesel.

DSCF3839.jpg

Random 75 for sale - says £475, taxed and tested. I didn't stop for a better look.

ASDA time....

DSCF3832.jpg

Parked next to this fairly grotty but used uno (it's a punto, isn't it? Shows how much notice I take of my own photos!), I had to wait before snapping it because the driver was sat in it eating his lunch.

The "A" team were doing their shopping too...

DSCF3833.jpg

DSCF3834.jpg

and......

DSCF3831.jpg

Maestro guy saw me checking out his car, he smiled and waved. Maybe I should carry Autoshite flyers.

This sounds interesting, any more info/pics?

For_Sale_August_2010_001.jpg

It doesn't look like a TU, more like something from the steam age, and it's 45cc larger. I don't think anybody's worked out its actual origins.

It's a bit like TATA's weird 1948cc diesel engine which is definitely not an XUD, it's possibly an Indenor with a belt driven OHC head.

A few more from this week, no more CityRovers though (in fact, I'm NEVER mentioning the bloody things ever again)

DSCF3843.jpg

I'm starting to wonder if ASDA do 3 for 2 on Morris Minors!

DSCF3846.jpg

"I had some left over from the tractor" paint job

DSCF3844.jpg

Blimey! Northern ARE short of buses at the moment... It stopped at a bus stop too.

DSCF3845.jpg

Which is how I got this pic of it behind me.

Ok a few more...

DSCF3849.jpg

Disturbing lack of checkerplate and One life... stickers on the local landys. You do sometimes see them filled with hay/sheep/water/etc.

DSCF3857.jpg

I'm sure you can guess where this LDV is going.... anyone need a peugeot/LT77 box?

DSCF3867.jpg

How to annoy the driver behind you - perform an emergency stop half way up a big hill, then find the camera. While they are still trying to work out what the hell you are doing, pull away again.

That Marina looks good.

"What colour shall we get the new car in, dear?"

"I like the look of this beige one."

"The one entitled 'Strong, milky tea'?"

"Yes, that's it."
