Last night whilst out for a wee drive I stumbled across something that caught my eye....

A brown Fiat punto, with a beige soft top. R plate 51k 1 owner, i rang the bell and expalined my love for weird stuff and left a card, the lady called today, its mine £130. Its been off the road for 4 years, i have no idea if it will run, and what it will need, but it looked a mighty fresh old thing. pics to follow.

Good skillz. I have finally come around to the fact that mk1 Puntos are autoshite, rather than just shite! :D

A Fiat convertable that's stood for four years and has no MOT? To paraphrase Autoshite's phrase of the month: 'what could possibly go wrong?' :D

Can't wait for the pictures and more details sounds like a mega win situation to me, top bombing Kinkersaab.

Doesn't look too bad at all, especially for that sort of money. Have you been through it yet to see what it'll want?

The body is in amazing order, as is the roof, as is the interior. I cant at the moment get it started, hoping a siezed starter...., its kinda clicking and occasionally trying to turn over, no one can remember why it was taken off the road, so who knows. I had a wee prod underneath and it will need a patch on the rear n.s. floorpan near the rear footwell, As it stands, it's home costing £180, its going to be worth sorting, the elec roof works too.

Sounds like a bad earth.

Smart, I thought the convertibles were all early 1.6 8valve jobs but DVLA says this is the 1242cc effort, didn't realise they built them that late.

What's that hiding in the undergrowth behind it, second pic?

I always rather liked those. I like their "bespoke" rear light clusters; the regular hatchback items would have looked somewhat daft. In these days of financial apocalypse, poisonous vegetables and the constant threat of another Simon Cowell number one, what a fine little conveyance to whizz about in, rooflessly, pretending nothing matters.

Good work, sir.

Great work there Kinker, Like Roadwork I like the rear light clusters and alloys.

I'm almost disappointed. That's not brown! However, it is one of the best colours from that era, so overall, I still applaud your efforts!

Indeed. Kink could probably get his 130 sheets back on those alone :)

They did'nt have much choice with the rear lights did they, the hatch lights went up to the roof!

So, i nipped to the garage and got another batttery, with the boost pack and a new battery it does turn over, but still too slowly to fire. Next stage will be to try and tow start it round the field as soon as a willing person arrives to help. my six year old seemed keen to help Daddy, but i have decided that could end in tears as it did when i towed her in the cosy coupe behind the tractor....

Have you whizzed the plugs out to see if they spark at all? Just wondering if it could be immobilisor related.

Nice to see another on the forum. I have a 2000 w reg one.

It started!!! and squeeled and squeeled and emitted lots of black smoke. Alternator siezed was the cause of the slow to turn overness. Once it burnt through and fell off, all was ok. It then went off a cylinder, but after a good thrash round the field seems ok again. Even the drivers window has started to work. So, a good scrub up, new alternator and belt and then a few good runs and ill bung it in for a test. Im now off back out to my shed to try and re attach the strip light that the power roof struck and removed ,whilst I was pissing about with it. I iz appy innit. :)
