Visa card adventures

A little idle browsing though the Adtrader website earlier this morning had me running out, afore mentioned card in hand, to the cash machine in order to purchase a very appropriate vehicle:

Still on the purchase lust high, in the dog with two doo-dahs phase, slowly starting to face the reality of explaining it all to Mrs 2-Stroke when she gets home from work....

Good purchase I'd say. I just hope your APR is sympathetic.

Visas still command strong money because of their rarity. The registration rings a bell too - I'll have a look at my CAR magazine 'Best of 1987' when I get home....

I do like Visas. I had a 14TRS in dogshit brown once - good fun to drive. I do prefer a povvo-spec version though. Did we ever get the 652cc versions here?

Think we did get the 652 jobbie, but not for long. Suspect the LNA two-pot took its place.

Visas are cool as. The GTi was always an amusing little thing, quick, yet frumpier than the average ladies over 90 Bowls team.

There's a GTi that potters about in Sale. I've spotted it and so has Peter. It runs on BX 16v wheels and looks the dog's.

Nice one! Are we allowed to ask how much? Presumably less than £300.

D-reg pretty late I'd have thought. I suppose AX effectively replaced the Visa?

I was able to do something similar when I got the Camry V6 recently, very satisfying to buy a decent, running car for less than the daily withdrawal limit. I seem to remember PC did a feature along those lines a few years ago.

The daily withdrawal limit is not a blanket affair - e.g. in my pathetically large arsenal of plastic, the lowest daily limit on a card is £250 and the highest €1500. Only once have I paid more than the latter for a car- though I guess that you may have a point in that most of my motors would not be classed as 'decent'.

However, that Visa looks ace- I guess it must be fun to drive and superbly economical to boot!

Don't actually know what the daily limit for my Visa card is - was a little bit nervous keying in the "300" on the "other amount" button - I had £5 change from the deal!

Mrs 2T took it all in her stride - I agreed to consider getting rid of something but hopefully things won't get that drastic.

Right, I'm off to investigate all the hidden nasties my purchase lust blinkers prevented me from seeing at the viewing stage.

That is fantastic :D

You don't live in Southend or a surrounding area do you? Your street looks strangely familiar.

Hey that looks QUAZ, i bet its great for blezzing round the doors, I suspect I would love it. Has it got the old suitcase engine?

No, you were correct with the "South" bit - I'm in Poole in Dorset - just another anonymous thirties suburb!

"Suitcase engine" - don't understand your banter Mr B! It's got the old lying down flat on its back integral gearbox type with chain driven OHC - didn't the 1.4 BX use a similar arrangement?

Overall I'm still really pleased, even as the original novelty starts to wear off. There's a fairly gentle ding on the rear wing which should push out, and the clutch cable is seriously seized which makes driving a pain, but once sorted should be great fun. Mileage is 47000 with service history and old MOTs to back it up, so all in all don't reckon I've had a bad 295 quid here.(you can all remind me of this when I'm turning the air blue and throwing spanners around the garage in a few weeks time!)

Be careful with the clutch cable, mine did the same, and then the pedal box collapsed from the strain of tugging on the seized cable, which is a ball ache to rectify.

Yeh the laid back engine is the suitcase one M.Boll is refering to, I know it as the lay-back-and-die.

Its GR1.2 for access, if you ever have to do the valve clearances wear some head protection as you'll spend most of the job nutting the bulkhead!

Does it have the earlier 'Pod' switchgear, or had they moved over to generic PSA stalks by then?

Congrats on a lovely little Visa. We used to see a lot of 'em (in good nick) when I worked in a Citroen workshop, nice to drive too.

Yes I noticed a little bit of movement on the other pedals when pressing the clutch, indicating distress on the pedal box. Shall certainly avoid pressing it any more prior to fitting the new cable. I've vague memories of removing a BX's pedal assembly the fix a collapsed accelerator mount - very satisfying once completed though as it instantly cured the gradual loss of performance caused by the increasingly restricted pedal movement as it got ever closer to the wheel arch!

In answer to the question about the instruments, no pod unfortunately, just two stalks but seeming to poke slightly oddly out of the dash either side of the column - Peugeot had clearly not purged all the Citroen madness at this time.

Aye thats what I meant, dont know where 'suitcase engine' comes from. These are a sweet little engine but horrible to fix if they go awry.
