I love this: 1244741074_Citroen%20C6

I would never own one, but I do like the shape of the Alfa MiTo, too. 2AlfaMitoR34.jpg

However, the thread can now be closed as I present you the ultimate car that is currently in production:

Unfirtunately the front isn't as nice, 'wide mouthed' bumper and chrome grille spoil the effect but I'd hit it.

Some might disagree but I reckon the Kia Ceed in estate form looks pretty decent. They drive well too, just like a Golf really...

I can't believe I'm typing this but that Golf(?) is WELL FIT. I also like the new Scirroco (sp?) too.

Sitting in the back of a new Scirocco is an one-way ticket to chronic depression. Just look at the size of those "windows".

I sat in one of these when they first came out, Fancied a 1.4 T-Jet Turbo ever since.

Probably not long left on its run, but I reckon it's good.

I agreee it looks alright, but it is a bit shit...not very comfy at all, and I am still not convinced that MB have upped their game as regards quality.

I'm afraid I have to agree, and I have to sell them for a living. Its an OK car, and the facelift has worked wonders on the interior, which was horrid. But it doesn't do anything better than, well, anything else on the market. This is why the cars I have to sell every day bore the chit out of me, but I'm cock-a-hoop whenever we get an old W124 in as a p/x.

These still stand out have seen a '10 plate one in Old Hill

Saw one of these outside the Mercedes dealer in Stourbridge the other day on an '11 plate!!

Still think Citroen make some interesting looking cars, my mate has one of these and it is one of the few modern cars I would consider:

There are some great looking modern cars about. And some crap.

The current Astra 5 door is a fine looking car with excellent proportions and detailing - it's a fine car, full stop. The new Focus is a hound, bland and awkward at the same time. Ford are having a lean patch right now - the Mondeo facelift is awful, I've never liked any Fiesta and the new Ka is just shit and lazy. Vauxhall are certainly giving them a thoroughly desrved kicking in the style department.

Christ - I'm actually liking Vauxhalls. What's that about? :D

Mercedes and BMW seemed to have turned a corner as well - I love the new 6 Series Coupe, a very pretty car unlike it's melted whale forebear.

I agree with you about Fords. The first KA was quite radiacal but the current one just looks like a smaller Fiesta. The previous Fiesta was also bland. I liked the first two Focus's and the mark 1,2 and 3 Mondeo's.

Not sure this "konetic" design crap is really working!!

The current Asstray is a good looking car, however they are pretty nasty to drive. Electric H/brake FTF, underpowered (in none diesel form), and really far too big whilst not being that roomy.

I thought it was okay. I'm not a fan of electronic handbrakes, but I don't really object either. It does feel a little confined inside (as does the Insignia) but that's how modern cars with thick pillars are.

Performance was okay and handling was very good. I found it a well sorted and well made car.

Yep, very well made. The one I had was a 1.6SE, It felt so gutless, constantly rowing it along with the gears, having to drop to 4th on the motorway just to get up hills.

To me 1.6 is a generic engine size for a hatchback, although at 1300kg they are only 200kg lighter than an Omega.

Err, yeah, about that. It's supposed to be a celebration of what you like, not what you don't.

I quite like the new shape Ka to be honest.

Oops.. Sorry

I think you might be on your own on that one.

Volvo V50 with these particular wheels:

I had a 55-plate one for a bit as a company car, I loved it, it had a really nice cream leather interior, it was very ambient inside. Great car, will never forget it.

I quite like the 'Banlge' effort 7-series. Very dominant, just as a 7-series should be:

X5  but only the early ones liek this (sorry)

I like this shape Astra but only as a 4-door:

I know most of the above arent particularly 'new' but they are new to me anyway.

Agreed on the 7 series, they should look like you don't care how brutish your car looks because should anyone comment on it they'll end up in the boot/at the bottom of a lake.

1300 kg is about the average weight for a family hatch these days. I can imagine a 1600 petrol would be lethargic in something that size and weight. Ideally [as you say] turbodiesels are where it's at. Unladen my C4 comes in at 1270 kg, but it gets along fine with 162 lb \ ft of torque. It isn't what you'd call quick though, I ran a best 1/4 mile of 17.8 seconds at the 'Pod and a Simca 1302 Rallye destroyed me past 40 mph. I think I only holeshot the Simca driver because my reaction time was better.

Talking of Citroens, I like the look of most of the new ones.

They're blatantly modern design, but I do think they look funky. It's just another few years of another car fashion. Always happened, always will. People whinged about cars not having running boards, wooden wheels and fabric bodies. Then it was the loss of separate wings, then separate chassis and it's just gone on. Nowadays there's not much can be done with the basic bodywork anymore. They've found the basic optimum shapes for strength, wind noise, aerodynamics etc so that's the shape cars are gonna be for a few years til someone comes along with something better again.

I'm just waiting for the trend to head back towards the late '60s / early 70's Muscle car period again. The Yanks have done a few, but we need Ford to do few blinding RWD chassis and make modern versions of the Mk1 Capri, Mk2 Escort, Mk3 Cortina and Mk1 Granada. They managed it in the '70s, surely it'd be possible to do it again.

Think about it, the modern version of a 2.8i Capri would probably be pushing 300ish bhp... How sideways would that be?

I get the horn for these... particularly in that light blue metallic.

There's nothing like them.

I agree about the C4 coupé, an excellent bit of styling.

Also this:

Saw one this afternoon, very eye-catching.

They don't make these any more but I'd <3 a 407 Coupe Bellagio HDi, what a nice looking, stylish car.
