Last of the hand-me-downs?

Seat-Exeo_ST_2010_800x600_wallpaper_11.jpg

I have to say the Seat Exeo took me by surprise on its launch. Unashamedly a 2005 A4 with a SEAT nose and retaining the usual Audi interior, no real attempt was made to disguise this. But I was most surprised because I thought the days of the smaller brands rebadging obsolete models from larger or grander manufactures was over (in the UK at least).

Of course during the 80s and 90s it was all the rage....

So the question is, what happened to the budget badged defunked models, and is the A4/EXEO the last of these hand-me-downs? Who knows, feel free to post some more though!

Seat Exeo drivers must be pissed off with everyone calling it an ALDI A4.

Almost bought one when I worked @ SEAT dealer. Shame they were cocks...anyways, they are closer than just nose - the shell is identical. The first 1000 were actually A4 shells - with the same poorly assembled pollen filter housing :-)

Google "Perodua Myvi". I believe it's available in the UK.

Quite a nice little car actually.

The Perodua Myvi isn't really a hand me down, it's a current Daihatsu Sirion.

Not any more. The Sirion (or maybe Boon?) mk3 (or whatever it is) went on sale last year (though you won't see any in the UK unless somebody goes to the bother of importing one).

Conventional wisdom is that SEAT is for the chop. However, that conventional wisdom came from CAR Magazine, which is now edited by a chav, so who knows.

I don't think it is accurate to describe the seat exeo as 'budget' car.

I tried to avoid descibing it as such. I obviously failed :D

It has the Audi cabriolet dash though... takes off VAG bobble hat

To be fair it is very hard to know exactly what the point of SEAT is now. They used to make small, bright, fun hatches and saloons. Now they just make bloated MPVs in brighter colours than the VW version

It does seem like VAG aren't really spending a lot of time on SEAT.

BTW, I have a copy of last January's Motor Clasico that I will be uploading (and perhaps translating) once I get a scanner! It's a SEAT anniversary issue, and contains photos and brief descriptions of every model ever made by them!

We were going to get EXEOs in work, just for a change. Boss borrowed one from Seat and asked my opinion. I recognised the A4 aircon setup but my main reaction was that it felt cheap compared to the Superb, and was a lot smaller inside.

So we didn't get 'em. I hadn't even noticed that it's an old A4. Must be slipping.

Ditto. I saw a couple up close-ish over the weekend, but hadn't twigged, either. It's bloody obvious in that first pic!

Seat have never really fulfilled the potential that VAG group had in mind. Was supposed to be the "sporting" bit of the VAG empire, but it's never quite happened, which is probably why VW are after Alfa

I did wonder where that had gone wrong: Seat were building a sporting reputation thro' F2 rally cars, and touring cars. Then nothing.

I think I've probably posted this on here somewhere, apologies if I have. Or indeed haven't.

I like that Proton.

I like that Proton.

Me too. It looks okay, is probably dead reliable, drives quite well etc etc. Either that or 50% more for a Toyota.

If they've sorted out the window winder mechs, it'll be the best new car evar.

Cabling? Just a mess of broken bits of plastic iirc. Urgh.

I only ever had "fitness windows" in both of my Protons (1.3 Si Models) but as a 10 year anniversary edition they came with AC which was better than electric windows :)

Mind you, when you turned on the AC, it was like driving with the handbrake applied

This one was lovely for 550 quid (6 years old and 32k miles)

Not so great for 425 quid

Any idea if it's prossible to port the windy windows into a (g)impian door? I've had the door trims off a few times and it just looks an unbearable job. And the mech costs as much as the car did anyway.

Well slap my arse and call me Nancy, I like the look of that. 8)

I never much liked Proton's in house car designs. A good idea to re-use the Mitsubishi designs.

I'd pop over here for a chat:

They have a reasonable forum and there is a classified section too.

Window mechanisms can be a real ball-ache to change - especially the first time you do one - but once you know what you're doing it's not usually too bad?

I tried them, there seems to be a built in ignorance against impians, and when I tried to join 3 or 4 times, all my requests and emails were ignored. So I've not been back.

Also, all their how-to guides are behind a pay wall*, which requires manual filling in of a form, and paying (which is the stuff I never got a reply to). That's just not how the internet is supposed to work.

*cunts

I've done window mechs in other cars, but these are unbelievable. They're attached to the rain shield bit, which means to even get a look at the fucker, you've got to dismantle the whole door, impact protection beams and all. (as far as I can tell anyway. there may be some gem of a way in that I've not figured out behind the inpenetrable pay wall of proton owners club doom.

I'd look for Malaysian car forums. The Malaysian language is not very rich and, not unlike what happens in India/Pakistan, a lot of technical/specialised/newfangled stuff is in English, which is very widely spoken anyway. Therefore, even if you don't understand what they're on about, you can still ask a question in English and most of them would be able to reply to you.

I think the Impian's domestic name is Waja or Wajah.
