Baz Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 ....Any of you chaps might be interested in this: 1995 Rover 414 SLi....Not to my taste, but it belongs to one of the few work colleagues that I actually like! As a favour, I told him that I'd offer it to my Autoshite chums first, and if no interest, maybe stick it on Ebay for him, as he likes a simple life (Bless) and doesn't therefore bother with computers and the internet! Here's what I know about the car: -1995 Rover 414 SLi-Covered 141,000 miles in it's 16 years-Service History-M.O.T. mid-September-Taxed only until the end of this month-Cambelt renewed last at 117,000 miles-New clutch-Recent Catalytic Converter-Recent Battery-Good tyres -Asking price £450 o.n.o. Looking at the car quickly as I did yesterday, it looks pretty clean....Not devoid of rust by any means, but would certainly appear to have a good few years left in it yet....The tax, as stated above, is about to expire, but I think the owner would be prepared to put 6 months on it at buyers' expense if required. Price, I think, is negotiable to an extent, and I think if anyone wanted to take it away without the owner having to re-tax it, then nearer £400 is possible....If it were an M-Reg Mazda 323f in this condition, I'd certainly be prepared to give £400 for it, I just don't do the little Rovers....I'm sure that they must have their fans out there though. Anyway....If anyone's interested, please drop me a PM, and I'll put you in touch with the owner....The car is located in the Costessey/Longwater area of Norwich....Cheers.
eddyramrod Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 That looks like one Scooters might be interested in....
KruJoe Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I do like Nightfire red. And I can say it may be more peppy than you might imagine. I'd be right on it if it were a 3dr 214. They're well fit.East Anglia might be a bit far from Scoot in Edinburgh!
trigger Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Isn't Scoot often down this way though?,Those 1.4's are a bit of a weapon, They really fly and aren't as shite as people give them credit for.

Had an indicated 128mph out of my '94 414 (which strangely lists on the RAC as a '414I SPRINT') on my private test track, bloody brilliant little car which sadly met an all too quick end when it got torched in the car park at my mates. My boss also swears by them, currently owning no less than four, two of which are sitting on over 200k miles now.

My example did experience quite a bit of front-end lift at speeds over 100mph. Needless to say, I very rarely drove it faster than 85mph
trigger Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 If you think your 414 had front end lift try driving a 420 GSi Turbo, It was dangerously bad!

Mine was a nice car for what it was (I considered it to be a far better car than the 1994 Golf Driver that my father owned at the time), but the lacquer came off the roof in great swathes when it was eight years old, leading me to get extremely pissed-off with it and buy The Volvo.

Strangely enough, mine had a huge swathe of missing lacquer on the bonnet... !

Extensive research (read nosing around car parks and scrapyards) suggests that Nightfire Red (as per the 414 in this post) and Carribean blue (as per my example) were the worst colours for lacquer failure.
trigger Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I've worked LOTS of these when they was only 5-8 years old and i can confirm that the paintwork was shite, as were the wheel arches.

Never had any rust problems on mine, wheelarches or otherwise, but I did Waxoyl it regularly. I fancy that I'd still have it now, if it wasn't for the dire paint quality...

We've had our Caribbean Blue Mini since new and it fortunately shows no sign of failing lacquer. Which is ironic considering how much of the paint has been spoiled by rust.
Lankytim Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 We loved our carribean blue 214 R4, but it went VERY RUSTY VERY QUICKLY.

Albert Ross Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Hey "peasant"... I wonder if it has auto windscreen wash?
Baz Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Car is still available....Now un-taxed, and taking up space that the owner doesn't have to spare, the price is now (a slightly more realistic, in my opinion) £300 o.n.o....Or maybe even slightly less If anyone's interested, please P.M. me, and I'll put you in touch with Mike, the owner....Cheers.
HillmanImp Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I had one of these that I bought to get to work in for a few days as my motorbike had broken down. Bought it off an Indian chap who was trying to flog it to me as if it was a right sporty machine. Had a carry handle spoiler and twin janspeed back box which made it sound like a motorbike. It was quite embarrassing to drive. Interior was lovely though. Full leather and fake wood. Was hi spec. Gave it to Binhoker who unfortunately fragged it. Well I say unfortunately,....
