Chrysler Alpine pre-launch video

Nice find. It's interesting, informative, amusing and tragic at the same time. Quite why ChryCo thought that the Capri II was a direct rival of the Alpine, I have no idea.

Having said that, I'd most likely have bought one if I was looking for a new medium-sized car in 1976 and wasn't bothered about who built it, but I would have got it Ziebarted on the way home from the showroom :)

Telling sign when they show the tailgate open - the rubber seal strip is not joined correctly and is misaligned. Looks like someone stuck in on in a hurry - but it passed as a press photo, they obviously had low standards then.

My father in law had 3 as company cars ( wrote off one when he turned it over ) - they were rattly shite boxes that went okay until they began to fall apart, dashboards drooped, plastics snaped off and fron seat bolsters collapsed. As for rust he never had them long enough.

He moved on to Saabs :P

Nice find, thanks.

A very well thought out car, sadly badly built and given a noisy engine.

They don't list very noisy tappets as an advantage :?:

That's a great video, although my immaturity showed through when I started imaging the slide change tones as censor beeps and giggling.

Agreed.

Great video. I wonder who did the music. My guess is Vangelis - before he found fame with 'Chariots of Fire' of course.

Tis a great find.

I can imagine the salesmen dragged in to watch the slideshow, the air thick with the smoke of B&H's and Rothmans, the jokes as the manager fecks up the slide viewer then gets flustered and loses his rag because everyone's mucking about, the salesmen pissed off enough not too care having tried to shift the useless Chrysler 180 for two years and wondering whether it's better to get a job with the Toyota dealers down the road...

An excellent find!

"Aggressive, business-like front end"

"Look at that attractive and very comfortable full width cloth upholstery"

Marvelous!

Full under-body protection? Now, I’m not so sure if that was entirely accurate...!

The Capri was competition?! :?

I think to be honest the sales people were just glad to have something remotely half decent to sell! The Imp Avenger and Hunter were all long in the tooth by 1976 and the 180 was a complete dead duck. I'd have been well chuffed having an Alpine to have a go at floggin'!

And it was quite modern for its time..FWD, hatchback blah blah....

...electronic ignition!!!!!11!!1!

Very nice video indeed. I loved the part where it addressed the audience as "Gentlemen". GR9 4 sex discrimination lawyers!
