I find F1 grows ever more tedious these last 10 years or so.

The worst thing about it is the more boring it gets, the more build up and associated crap is thrown at us in a vain attempt to keep us interested.

It almost isn't funny because it's so close to the truth. But I still laughed.

Bring back rallycross I say!

Where else can Ford Escorts kick the arses of Porsche 911s and Audi Quattros?

+1.

It's neither a sport nor even remotely interesting.

You're all wrong, F1 = ACE. I've bought a HD telly specially for this year's shenanigans.

It never went away.

It's still the best motor-sport (and I am an F1 follower - it's been more interesting the last 2/3 years but the 'schmacher years' were tedious).

Lydden is still the best Rallycross venue despite Mabbs Bank being flattened.

It's now about 4wd mega-turbo fords beating citroens, mitsubishi evos and Scooby-doos but still great viewing.

I'll probably go for the easter 'european' round.

I know it hasn't gone away, but you don't get it on Grandstand anymore with Murray's super-enthusiastic commentary... (whinge, whinge, better in the old days etc)

What's grandstand?

IIRC it was on World of sport as well sometimes.

The only TV sport I was interested in was rallycross followed by the wrestling! We loved you Kent Walton! Not forgetting Mick McManus, Les Kellet, Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki, Catweasel, Steve Logan, Jim Breaks, Masambula, The Royal Brothers, Giant Haystacks, Rollerball Rocco, Adrian Street, Bad Bobby Barnes ... (That's enough old wrestlers , Ed)

For my sins that is the first time I've ever really seen rallycross! It looks like a good watch up there with a good touring cars session.

As for F1, I only started really watching it after Schumacher stoppped and it now looks like we are going to have to put up with another self-obsessed boring as hell German, Oh well :( .

Verdict: FAIL.

If I wanted to watch someone with too much money almost overtake someone else with too much money and stop occasionally for a tyre change I'd sit outside Lymm services on the M56/M6 interchange and see how Eddie Stobart fairs against Nobrot Dressingtable. It'd probably be more fun too.

i love f1 2009 was a pretty boring season apart from maybe australia or brazil, 2010 tho was a great season almost every race was worth watchin we had red bulls breaking down and crashing into each other a great comeback by alonso near the end of the year and some great drives from button and hamilton oh and kovalianen trying to extinguish his burning lotus in singapore

Are they actually broadcasting it in HD this season?

It will be the first time I think?

I totally lost interest in F1 when its coverage moved to ITV in the 1990s.

At least it's better than football.

*Can't wait for the new F1 season to start, last year was great and I reckon that this year will be even more so.

Never a truer word typed! However they both bore me to tears. F1's glory days are over, it's a procession these days decided almost entirely by pitstops. None of which are called Penelope, more's the pity. And where the fuck is Murray Walker's knighthood????????

Rallycross is a load of fun, yes, and I remember the 4wd Capris way back in about 71. But two sports we used to see on a Saturday, that we don't any more: Trials, and Autotesting. Come on guys, these are huge fun! Want to pull the ratings up? Get the ol' Austin 7 specials out and give it some hype! And if the Trials boys won't play, get some old Minis on slicks and let's see them drift round a car park. Cyprus telly has versions of both of these, believe it or not: 4x4 rockcrawling, most of which appears to be in cut-down Pajeros with extra-long-travel suspension (looking like they were built on Scrapheap Challenge :D ) and Drifting, which is only autotesting without the finesse, and seems to involve 200SXs and M3s. So much sideways action you could be watching The Sweeney!

Russ Swift was an Autotest champion....

I have zero interest in F1, but cos I'm into cars, people I meet automatically assume I like it

My main problem with it though, is why they waste airspace broadcasting it on Five Live. Bit like having snooker on a black and white telly...

Personally I like F1 (cowers behind sofa in anticipation of abuse), but this^^ made me laugh a lot.

If the purpose of F1 is to send you to sleep in the chair after you have eaten roasted meat, tatties & yorkshires, then it 100% still fulfils it's brief.

Watch the start, fall asleep, wake up for the end, job done. It's part of a Perfect Sunday, regardless of how shit & pointless it actually is.

I love F1, some races are a bit boring but most are pretty good and it's far more interesting than watching a ball being kicked about. Plus the fans don't feel the need to fight each other every 5 minutes.

Big plus point! Although I can remember the "pitch invasion" that Nigel Mansell was caught in at the end of a race some years ago. Must have been bloody terrifying for him.

Seat prices are roughly comparable!

F1 would be all the better for a few rucks, scuffles and what have you!!! Would relieve the boredom of the 'racing' if nowt else.

Maybe all it needs to liven it up is Danny Dyer doing the commentary? He'd be able to chat incessantly about what 'firm' is going to turn up on someone else's manor and fakking 'ave it wiv em.

Posted

Danny Dyer commentary would add a little something to it

"Today, the MacLaren firms gonna mixing it wiv da geezers from Red Bull on Ferraris manor. Its gonna be a bit fakkin naughty as these tasties get nasty innit. Wallop!"

I personally like F1, its about the only sport related thing I watch on TV but yes, it does get a bit dull sometimes - unless it rains of course, at which point it does get a lot better. Often I find a cheeky £20 on a Barricello top six tends to make the races more stimulating. Cheers gambling addiction!

Posted

Indeed he could. A "Run over Danny Dyer's stupid fucking fake cockney geeza face repeatedly. God that man is a wanker" event would provide great entertainment

I think they should have more night races and allow refuelling, BUT at the night races make the driver get out of the car and PAY FIRST like the rest of us have to. We could make Murco the official fuel supplier to F1.

Posted

Yes, and make them queue behind people buying lottery tickets and powercards or doing their weekly shop, so they are incandescent by the time they get back on the track.

Posted

I think that they should stop over complicating it. With them having 2 types of tyres, KERS, no refuelling its a bit of a mess. Get rid of the so called 'bad air' that stops faster cars overtaking slower ones and let them go out and race. I dont know how you do that but for the money they earn they could probably pay someone who knows what they are doing to sort it out.

It can be good, it can more often be bad as its just a procession like others have said. Lewis Hamilton has improved it in the last few years IMO as his driving is exciting as he is always on the edge, sliding it round the corners of Monaco and crashing whilst making stupid overtaking manouveres, or making amazing moves, but more often than not crashing...

Will watch all the starts but will probably miss most of the middles and wake up for the end like Pog.

I'm fed up with all the complicated performance rules.......

"McLaren are to be docked points due to an illegal wing being added" etc

WHAT

FUCK

?

Let them do what they want to the cars FFS

I believe FIA policy is to dock teams points if their cars aren't red and the team name isn't Ferrari
