Anyone want about 1000 car mags? Enough to put a Santana GX5 on its bumpstops. I'm moving shortly and have to part with most of them. A real mix, Classics, Autocars, Motors, Car mechanics,Classic American, some bike mags, some of the mags go back to the '60s.. must collect quickly from Fife, or they'll have to go to the dump :( A real sad day.

I'm in Fife, and would need them away within about a week at the most.

Any issues of CAR from 1990 or earlier?

I'm going through them all just now- loads of Autocars and Motors, Classic Americans, Classics, Practical classics, Car Mechanics. Quite a few '70's "on the road" mags,- already spotted a Talbot Solara road test, Lada 1500 estate road test- probably lots more shite interest there! older VW mags, and other assorted stuff.

Anyone need a Volvo 260 series handbook, or a reprinted BMW E34 handbook. Volvo 850 Haynes, Lancia Beta Haynes,Suzuki SJ Haynes.

Will probably come across more as I go through them all.

I used to work about 5 miles from the bridge, but now work in Dundee, so never down that way now. :(

All sorted into boxes now... took ages as I kept finding things to look at..

EEK  - theyr'e in my keep box. all my mags with X1/9 stuff in it, and anything Trabant, sorry!

When you say sorted, in what order? I couldnt take 1000 as the Mrs would definitely stab me but i would be interested in the ones up to the mid 90's or so?

Posted

They're sorted by title- Classic/Autocar/Motor/American/and Misc which is a lucky dip!

*Disclamei* I had to root out all my hidden gentlemans magazines, mostly found at the side of the road as a teenager.. I will not be held responsible for any found. Of course if you can assist in sneaking them out of the house I'd be most grateful....

P.S.. magazines are farkin heavy!!

Why Fife??!! I'd be all over those if you was a bit closer for my collection/flickr photostream.

Ach bolix, I'm just not gonna have the space. Mrs_L bought some furniture over the weekend which isnt going to fit in the space she thought and I've just come home and ended up having to find a space for it in the cupboard that I was going to use for my own shite

Needed it out the way as we have a viewer coming to see the house on Weds.

Would have loved those. Arse.

^Oh well...I was just going to say, I could've helped out - I'll be at one of the Asda depots sometime soon. Could've bridged the gap, so to say.

Posted

iain they can stay in my garage until you get the space,if that helps?

Posted

Cheers for the offer FD :)

But when we finally do move, I dont think I'd be allowed to keep all 1,000 magazines on top of the 400 or so, plus all the car brochures I already have lol!

is there not a charity shop that would take a couple of boxes?

Seems a shame to throw them all out, a chairty shop could stick them out for 20p each or whatever and probably make a few quid as id imagine they would be of interest to a fair few people.

When I moved down from the Highlands, I had about the same amount again, only some older stuff. I tried every charity shop in the area and none would take them. I had to dump them in the end- lots of 60's stuff in there too. I've been collecting magazines since about age 5- 1979, and got my brothers and dads collections, as well as buying stuff at autojumbles and out of local papers. At one time I had over 4000 magazines and probably the same again of brochures. Pretty much all gone now apart from what you see in the photo. :( Before the days of the internet it was all my reference material-now only a mouse click and a google away. I prefer the old days, spending many hours up the attic getting excited over rediscovering a NSU Prinz road test report.

I'm a garage instructor now, teaching teenagers mechanics, I took in a load of old Max Power and Fast car, and all they were interested in were teh titz.. Kids eh?

Bah, they think I'm an old fart as it is (at 36!) 'cos I go on about Manta's and stuff, and sometimes forget what decade I'm in and start on about DCOE's and bullet boxes :?

I have a mate here who's young enough to be my son (he's 24 or 25) with a Mk3 Cortina, and his girlfriend's mate came to visit. After a ride in the Tina she decided she wanted something RWD to get into drifting back home (I know, but it's a start, right?) so Ian and I talked her into looking for a Manta B. She's 20. She does seem to understand about a 1.8 or 2.0 Berlinetta, which would be enough to train on and qualify for classic insurance too. Since then another mate (also 20) of Ian's gf has fallen in love with a stripped shell of a Mk2 Escort, and proposes to do as much of the work herself as possible; she's living here in Paphos so Ian and I will be on hand to help. You may remember the Viva I posted a while ago, that had been dumped on a hillside; another mate of Ian's has taken that on and is having the time of his life restoring it, again doing as much as possible himself (he's 22). So there is hope, the young ones are still interested, and not just for slammed/ratlook purposes. And note, two of these are girlies! GR9 for equality! :D
