Buy my shite: 1981 Lancia Beta HPE NOW £220

I had it on eBay, people did go mad over it. Sadly they were more interested in the engine or some of the hard to find parts. Hence why it's on here, I'm hoping it goes to an enthusiast or someone who is after an honest worthwhile project.

It is what it is, it hides nothing, I'm honest and the car has no secrets.

It is no quick fix, requires more than a days fettling to get it back on the road. That's why I've put a realistic price on it.

Right to cut a long story short, the buyer off ebay has had issues etc........

So this car is now back up for sale, £220.

I cant physically go much lower than that price, Somebody must want it......surely?????

It certainly did, but the fact that I'm at max capacity, recovery distance and about to take delivery of an alternative Turinese twincam badermatic shitbox all connspire to rule me OUT i'm afraid.

To be honest the only reason I haven't bitten your arm off is recovery distance...that and Nigel's taking my Beta salloon off me that I've done f-all with!

Err-my saloon -that I've not collected yet!

Still -back in the Uk shortly. I'll take piccies when i collect , if Thorstie hasnt obliged.

Im losing storage soon so if its not sold to soemone, its future may be looking pretty dire

Sadly I can't see anyone wanting to restore an HPE although I stand to be corrected. If it gets stripped for parts, then at least it's not been wasted. A waste would be to send it across the scales to claim your £250 where the scrapyard would just crush it whole. If it comes to that, at least pull the engine out and rape some of the better/rarer bits.

Went to the AutoItalia day today - only 3 Betas there, two of them coupes. :(

Hope it does get saved.

I would certainly invest a load of welding time in an HPE, so presumably others would as well.

I have (several),I will be shortly (that saloon) and i would... if it was clser& I had space/time

While i sincerely hope that you find a buyer for her, Im sort of hoping that it will still be around in a few weeks time as, If it is, I will be very, very interested in taking it on :D

Its that cheap, its madness not to to take a punt on her, isnt it?

Ooo, a Lancia Beta. I love these cars.

Unfortunately it's not rusty enough for me, I like my Italian classics to be so perished that they disintegrate in a mild breeze, but I've just let Captain Flimble know about this car... wouldn't be surprised if he snaps your hand off. And buys the car, hehe.

Where are these brave restorers?

If it can't find a victim at 200 quid, something tells me it's heading to the bridge - a terrible pity, but sadly reality. It needs saving, but not by anyobody here I fear......

To be totally honest i have restored many cars that were considerably more rusty than this.

I think ive been totally fair in the asking price, it represents the cars condition and current value.

I love cars, im an enthusiast and ive rescued Mitsubishi Starions from scrapyards, a BMW E28 from the banger track and a Cesleste from a barn. This was bought by me to restore but also to stop it being chucked in the bailer.

It would utterly disgust me if it ended up there. If someone wants it, make me an offer, if you want to throw a cheeky price in and chance your arm then fire away.

After all is said and done i'd rather see it go to a caring home for less than i want, than count my £250 as it disappears through the fragger.

Winning attitude Dan and as you suggested the price is damned good. Fingers crossed someone will save it.

I also hope someone saves it, it looks pretty decent in the pictures.

It is times like this I wish I could weld. :(

If you started with an hour’s help from a welding friend, you’d be shit-hot by the time you finished this hunk of four cylinder love.

I am tempted. I know NOWT about welding other than you can use old coat hangers (at least a pal of mine does) Could I ask how much welding it would need (hours/time/cost whatever) and what else it is likely to need for an MoT. Also, how quickly do you need it away? Thanks

Posted

Well s an absolute bare minimum it will need.

Outer and more than likely inner cills.

Bottom door skins on both doors

Surface rust around the roof gutters and rear screen will need looking at it, looks only cosmetic and not really actual rot

The petrol tank or filler neck is corroded so that will need addressing.

Rear silencer is shot, so that will need replacing.

All the panels to replace the above can be got from the betaboyz website. This will cut down hours as you won't have to sit there and make panels.

TBH i would say that this car would suit a competent or professional welder. I would be lying if i said that a novice could get this sorted in an afternoons work.

Having said that if you want something that you can learn on, take your time with and hone your welding skills i would say its a good buy.

It will need other work, it hasn't graced the queens highway since 1995. A service, quick look at the electrics, replace the shot exhaust back box plus the welding will more than likely get you on your way to getting a valid MOT.

Right, I've had a look through this thread after John F told me about it, and the upshot is: I'm interested. I've done some fettling and welding on the Maserati 222SE so I'm familiar with aging Italian metal that drifts away on the breeze if you sneeze in its direction, and I've almost finished by V6 Cally rear end replacement:

...so I'll need another project for my angle grinder.

I agree that this car should be restored to its former glory rather than crushed - particularly due to its rarity. I'm sure there will be other problems as the car has been stood for a long time, but it looks like an interesting project so I'll PM you with an offer.

Thanks Red Sparrow.

Dan - I've tried to PM you and can't get it to leave my outbox (I'm new to this site). Please would you PM me so that I can respond with my offer.

Cheers!

YO, the PM will leave your outbox when VC10 reads it! Thats how it works.
